Ashley Lucas comes to the field of nutrition for weight loss and wellness with a unique background. Dr. Lucas spent the first 25 years of her life participating in the rigorous training of her professional classical ballet career; constantly devoted to this “passionate pursuit of perfection”. This deeply-rooted “pursuit” was, for her, continuously met with injury and a constant fight with the ballet-specific body type. As a result, she retired from her professional dancing career, understood the importance nutrition played in her own athletic performance, and started along her path to becoming an expert in the field of nutrition and wellness. Dr. Lucas earned her PhD in Sports Nutrition and Chronic Disease from Virginia Tech and is also a licensed Registered Dietitian.
It is so interesting how caffeine affects people differently. I do not get shaky and I am more quick thinking. I have a high tolerance. My husband is completely opposite. He gets anxiety from caffeine and can even act moody if he has more than a cup. I am considering taking a break to see how my body feels.
Coffee gives me brain fog- I’ve done an elimination diet for 1 month- free of coffee, and today I tried one cup to see how it would impact blood glucose concentration, and it gave me instant brain fog with no impact on glucose level. I put almond milk in it plus a sugar free sweetener, and these I use all the time, so it was the coffee. I think there are fungi and molds in coffee that really cause the brain fog, but I’d like to know for sure!
I need the bump in the morning from coffee to think and feel energetic. I do go for a cup of coffee when I get "hungry" to ward off eating off my plan.
Raw milk is a different beast. If you feel good on it, it’s probably fine for you! For cottage cheese I like it for protein. It would help to know what your goals are and if what you’re experiencing to guide you better!
@@drashleylucas thank you! I have the raw milk with Equip protein powder, and I mix cottage cheese with eggs for a pancake style breakfast. I’m trying so hard to lose weight, but my thyroid and menopause make it so difficult.
Truth be told, an insulin spike with almost no nutritional value is a huge negative. Try bacon and eggs - or better yet, only eat lunch and dinner. You'll be healthier.
Nice work Ashley! These substitutes look great 👌 When I want a sweet treat, I just add a touch of honey to my cottage cheese. Boring for most ppl, but I'm a year+ on carnivore I have lost almost all my sweet cravings.
For me its as much texture as taste. I love the crunch...think pretzels or hard cookies. Raw Veggies can have the snap, but not the sweetness. Do you have any help along this line?
Amazing video and content… I am 52, and have been a personal trainer for over 15 years… my median age client is 60-70 years old, and yes women esp need to lift weight! This information is soooo very important, I am also glad you discussed the importance of good sleep! Lack of sleep is so prevalent in our society, and has such a negative impact on our health … thank you so much for this awesome video!..🙏🤗❤️
I started a strict keto diet ( PhD-esque) at the end of August 2024 and now at mid October 2024 I've lost 18 lbs.... and nearly all my skin tags are gone! With my last pregnancy had a signify number pop up and never go away, but now I've got far clearer skin.
Great info as usual, Thank you Dr. Ashley 🥰 Just wanted to mention, all my years of raising children and working, sleep was “take whatever you can” now I’m retired, and man do I know how to sleep!! Most nights 10-11 hrs. It’s great!!
Diets for decades. My pattern is Sloth = 2 lbs in 30 days. Now: Lion diet = 8 lbs and counting... in 10 days!!! NEVER EVER!!! 😀😀😀 Doing a 2 week protocol (extending to 3 wks now). Healing + feel amazing. Thank God!!
a fed body is better than a de4d body. All food can be good in moderation and with balance. People shouldn’t just eat cereal 24/7 no. But if someone wants a bowl of cereal. They just need to add protein, healthy fats and some fruits or veggies and they’re good to go. Cereal has carbs, which we need. If they add milk to that cereal then we have our dairy. All that’s left are proteins, some fruit or veggie and healthy fats. Restricting certain foods can only lead to a worse outcome for many people. It’s better to find balance ❤
Well said, Ashley. A great point. So many of these issues, while not overly complex, aren't just as simple as a single consideration like the glycemic index. (Besides, a major objective in life for all of us should be to ingest a bare minimum of things our body sees as a poison of any sort.)
FDA IS ANOTHER ORGANISED CRIME-AGAINST HUMANITY!!! QUIT ALL WEAPONISED COMMERCIAL CHEMICAL PACKAGED PROCESSED BOTTLED CANNED AND FAST FOODS FILLED WITH SINISTER ADDITIVES AND NANO TECH AND MSG... EAT FRESH AND FRESH COOKED
Thanks dr Ashley. I am from Ireland. I came across dr Anthony and dr ken berry a year or so and have living a carnivore ish diet since. Biggest problem in Ireland is people think you are crazy eating this way and doctors and media are pushing the crap that butter eggs and red meat will cause cancer and heart disease
You are welcome! Thank you for watching. It certainly seems counterintuitive to most modern ways of eating, but ultimately we have do what what works best for our health. Glad to hear you have found what works for you so far!
I love all of this! However,I am so confused about fat. For 6 months I ate full fat Greek yogurt (no sugar), and ate, overall, very healthy. Then I went to get more blood work. My LDL had skyrocketed. My doctor told me to go back to no fat yogurt and to avoid all saturated fat. So much conflict. To me, the full fat makes sense, but what else can I do? HELP!
Hi! Thank you so much for watching! I have another video that helps clarify the confusion around dietary fat, cholesterol, and weight loss here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y2nf-vLnnds.html
You literally didn't explain why it's "bad." You just said you didn't like it. Probably because you don't know how to make it tasty Love the option to mark channels for spam
Oats have a higher glycemic load, meaning they quickly break down into sugars during digestion. When consumed, this rapid digestion leads to a spike in blood sugar. A sudden blood sugar rise might give you a quick burst of energy, but it is often followed by a blood sugar crash, which can cause low energy, irritability, and cravings for more carbohydrates. In addition, sweeteners and high-glycemic fruits are often added to oatmeal which adds to the glycemic load. This results in a breakfast that is a high-sugar meal and low in protein and fiber-two key nutrients that help regulate blood sugar. I hope this helps!
@@drashleylucas every food with a carb causes a spike in blood sugar. If you demonize oats, you might as well demonize every fruit and veggie. It does not cause blood sugar to spike to an unhealthy level and does not cause a crash. You're acting as if it's equivalent to eating candy for breakfast. I run upwards of 60-70 miles a week and I have around 80grams of oats every day. It's a great fuel source, it's an extremely slow burning carbohydrate source, and virtually every piece of literature supports old fashioned (non flavored) oats as being a wonderful option for a breakfast or healthy carb. Hope this helps!
@@drashleylucas also have you even looked at the nutritional breakdown of oats? It's literally packed with fiber and has a moderate amount of protein. You're completely unqualified to even use Google too?
Now I'm confused with the PhD meal plan and the emphasis on vegetables with the protein and the "unlimited" salad greens. I've has success with the meal plan, buy now I'm confused with the information of the broadcast. It appears to make sense about the toxicity of the veggies, but I'm confused.
I got my blood work back 220 total colosteral Triglycerides 55 HDL 51 LDL 170....my doc said I have a 50% of cardiovascular disease because they use a calculator based on HDL and LDL count...however I was referred to a calculator through a video from a cardiovascular doctor that used HDL and Triglycerides count and from a scale of 1-5 of risk I feel at 1.5 so I am very confused as to what to believe and what I should do.
LDL and HDL are not cholesterol. They are lipo proteins, used to transport cholesterol to and from cells and liver. The idea that there is good and bad cholesterol is nonsense.
A cured patient is a lost customer. In the business model, there is profit in maintaining the health of livestock by keeping them well-fed, healthy, and disease-free. Similarly, there is profit in keeping people dependent on treatments by sustaining a cycle of poor health, obesity, and illness.
Now I'm more confused than ever! My mind is blown hearing this podcast. How does one get started in this? Does it derail the success achieved through the PHD weight loss and now on maintenance program?
More meat, less plants over a 4-8 week period, eventually eliminating plants. Definitely agree with the suggestion to watch Dr. Ken Berry’s videos. Good luck, and remember - there are no essential carbohydrates.
My husband and I have gone Keto / Carnivore and have seen good results and feel so much better. Thanks mostly to your podcast and many current books out there on nutrition. But as a Christian, I also have a hard time believing that plants are killing us when God says in Genesis 1:29 that He has given us every plant yielding seed that is on the face of the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.” How do you reconcile the two ? Are extremes like this necessary? I don’t think so… I would love to see you interview Jesse Inchauspe aka The Glucose Goddess.
The bible is a book of fables i.e. fiction, not non-fiction. We have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years as humans and millions of years in terms of all life forms on this planet.
The plants that exist today are not the same as those mentioned in Genesis. We have ruined them over the years since then. Not that hard to figure out.
Humans have the propensity to over complicate things to the degree to self detriment, keep it simples and study the digestive system of humans and what is the appropriate specific diet for optimum metabolic health....Exercise is a given to maintain health too , there is no quick fix after a lifetime of poisons & programming to the detriment of all of us purely for the finacial benefit of a few. 😢
@@GlennMarshallnz We are flat out working out what we should eat today, but some suggest we know what happened millions of years ago. I don't buy that fable.
Hi! Thank you so much for watching! I have a short video that dives into the carnivore diet a bit more here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nDlly-u5Bj4.html Dr. Ken Berry also has a great resource for what to eat on carnivore here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e56gVwMFVPw.htmlsi=h5dJyuwdjNzODFsm
I wouldn't recommend carnivore if you're just going to use it to lose weight and go back to S.A.D. But if you're planning to use it to improve your health and stay on that WOE, then carnivore is for you.
