Hi, new subscriber here. I agree with your comments about the neckline, I would feel the same. I also knit and some necklines lie like this and I never wear them so chalk it up to experience. I am enjoying your content (sewing for 50 years and still learning) Sue ❤
Great choice - the Fleur is a lively pattern and seems to work for all! I think it’s a brilliant choice for your challis fabric. It looks so swishy in viscose. Your Judy is beautiful. Love your makes 😘😘
I think the neck is back to front revisit the pattern pieces especially now as you have shown the line drawings. It’s a shame if it’s correct but think we all have made something that never gets worn. Best wishes from Portugal
W How sad about your dress but it was not hanging right on your shoulders. I’m glad you didn’t proceed with it. The pattern was all wrong. Neck seemed to high. I’m sure it will look better second time around.
Hi Alison! I just had a top I made that I stopped and gave up on it because I knew I would not pull to wear it. It really disappointed me and kind of knocked me out. I don't have anything that I can make quickly. I don't have any quick win patterns yet.
@@JoyceWood-d2h definitely wasn’t I checked the back yoke several times and sewed the label on before I attached it to the dress- it just wasn’t right but now it’s going to be a Fleur 🤞
I agree there was something strange going on with the neckline on the first dress. I just knew you would figure out how to save the fabric. And the second dress is perfect. I have wedding dress alterations to finish for one client and a hem to put in a mother of the groom dress, so no personal sewing. I'm hoping to organize one more shelf of fabric, again wrapping the fabric around cardboard. Thanks to you, my fabric is so much more organized.
Hi Alison, great video, I had the exact same thought about doubling up on the placket and adding buttons to my next Fleur-I’ll be interested to see how yours turns out.
Perhaps removed the neckband and re cut in a solid black, BUT do a forward shoulder adjustment and perhaps lower the front neckline at center. Just an idea.
Although sad when a make doesn’t meet you expectations it’s really satisfying when you get to turn it around by creating something else from it 😊I like that you got straight on to it and I look forward to seeing it
Hi Alison, what a shame about your Karlene dress but like you say you wouldn’t reach for it and you will have another fabulous Fleur dress. Your new Judy dress is beautiful, what a gorgeous fabric. I’m really interested in how you’re going to hack the Fleur pattern. ❤❤
Can you remove that neck piece and turn it in underneath as a channel for some elastic... So it would be much lower but could be an off the shoulder number?
Hi Alison. I have this issue with some makes - and I have just done a round shoulder adjustment on a blouse I have previously made, but really like so making it again. I love how you have immediately repurposed - I usually get disheartened and put it in a pile to look at some time later.
Shame about the Karlene but what a win to get another Fleur! (I finally caved and bought the pattern). Interesting that you compared the Karlene with the Davenport. I gave my Davenport away as the proportions felt so uncomfortable on me - the body felt too big for the yoke section. I was upset as the fabric I used was gorgeous. The new Judy is fabulous. Made me laugh as your ‘out there’ fabric is in my stash! It’s quite subtle compared to some of my others! 🤣 I can’t decide what to use it for though. My biggest oooo was for 5 the leopard pink/blue from Minerva. Loved 7 the green twill too. Big fan of green. But they were all lovely. I avoid fabric hauls usually (too tempting to watch) but I’ve enjoyed yours. Have fun sewing.
OMG, I love them all! But I think #2 is my favourite. I wanted to high five you through the screen for your deal on the pink and red fabric. Honestly this year i haven't just stepped in poop, I've fallen in a manure pile. Since April, half my probably 100 year old maple tree fell over our fence into the neighbour's yard, took out 2 fences, half of their shed, 1 lawn tractor, smashed a car, and took out another tree. The rest of the tree had to come down and removed, that cost $6000. My son's 2 month old car, leased in my name, was in an accident and totalled. After months waiting insurance finally paid out for the car. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Then my 12 year old oven died, new one cost me $1000. Finally last week, somehow, coming downstairs in the morning missed the bottom step and broke a bone in my foot! No more manure please! On the plus side I can sew with my left foot. I'm wondering what amazing things you will make with all that lovely fabric.
I think the Lady McElroy employee responsible for naming fabric can just relax, no job gazumping here! 😂🤣 Although the Crafty Pie could be calling you for some naming inspiration - hippy child definitely suits the design on that fabric 🤫😂
Definitely an OOH from me for fabric 6, absolutely love it. So much so I am going to look if there is any left. Don't know what I'd make but I would just look and stroke for a while first.
No3 is beautiful and certainly not “out there” 😂. I love the Emerald twill too No7. Might just pop a look at Jenny stitches, not that I end anymore fabric either 🙈.
After your last vlog,I went to my nearest Boyes. They had lots of nice fabrics but the Lady McIlroy ones were all in colours that don’t suit me. I did get a lovely Ecovera viscose and I also got a very pretty Broderie Anglais😊in white. There are also at least three other Boyes within 20 miles from here.
I have always thought of ‘out there’ as meaning something similar to ‘statement’ as in statement jewellery. I might be wrong but I would have taken it as a compliment. Not everyone has the confidence to show who they are, some people’s wardrobes must be so drab full of beige, black and white. How often do people stop you in the street to tell you that they love your outfit? I can say that wearing drab and boring clothes you are lucky if someone you know says ‘nice jacket’. Be out there ❤
