Hey man, thank you for this very helpful video! I just had my OWK Vader this week and this is my first time collecting a HT figure. Is it okay if I apply a 303 aerospace this early to my Vader figure? Also, would you please describe which exact sections of my OWK Vader need a 303 maintenance. I am confused which parts are exact pleathers. 😁 I can see you're still pretty hands-on in replying to inquiries. You got a good heart helping others. Keep it up!

I got all my figures in the boxes in my room i live in an appartment but humidity isnt that bad so i should be good until i display them
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 25 дней назад
As long as the humidity levels are OK, it should be fine. However, there have been many cases where pleather components have started deteriorating even when stored in the original box. It shouldn’t happen if the humidity is controlled, but I wouldn’t risk it. And thanks for watching!

Yes, technically, it should. As long as it’s also in a humidity/temp-controlled environment. Thanks for watching and for the question!

Pretty nice unusually large scale model of this. Only thing that immediately screams out at me is the weathering in the cockpit and the level of grime in the recesses is close to non existent. Which is really important to achieving the lived in universe feel that lucas wanted for pretty much the whole saga. There are some exceptions of course like the rebel blockade runner but a snospeeder? nah that thing would be getting some heavy use in the field. You can see even in operation aircraft in modern millitaries that are being constantly maintained and cleaned have a certain level of grime the vast majority of the time. You could easily sort this with panel liner wash a steady hand and some spirits to remove it of course But i understand any non modellers hesitation to do such a thing to a very expensive model..
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 25 дней назад
Completely agree. I understand why they couldn’t include the paint applications in the base model, but it also looks like it’s missing that lived-in feel. I added weathering to my model and it completely changed the look. Take look at video and let me know what you think. @metamorphiccustoms Месяц назад
Hey thanks for watching! Yes, I always apply 303 from the very beginning, or apply a thin coat of Mod Podge if it’s ALOT of Pleather. (For example, On figures like HT Vaders with so much pleather, I just straight apply a coat of Mod Podge.)

@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms Месяц назад
Hey thanks for watching and for your question. Actually, I gave my ESB Vader a thin coat of Mod Podge. It was just so much pleather, I thought it would be great to take that extra step to permanently seal it. I’ll be doing the same with my Kenobi Vader when he comes in later this month. Alternatively, you could simply apply 303 every 3 -9 months. It depends on your environment. If the humid is low or well-controlled, you can reapply every 9 months.

This is probably the most helpful collection maitenance video I've ever seen. I very rarely do the whole "up vote"/favourite thing, but this video gets both. @metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms Месяц назад
Thanks so much for the very kind words and for the up vote! Frequency of application depends on your environment. If it’s really humid and your HVAC (or lack there of) aren’t the best, then I’d say reapply every month. On the other hand, if the humid is constant, either because of the local environment or because of a great HVAC system, then only reapply every 6 - 9 months. I reapply every 3-6 months.

Hey, thanks so much for watching! Yes, I’ve considered comissions, but honestly the amount of work and hours that go into would far exceed the cost of the actual model. Glad you're trying it! I'm sure it will turn out great. I find its always important to clear coat and seal the ground before applying the snow. If you don't, the snow ingredients my reactivate the dried pigments in the ground. (That will then stain your white snow.) Thnaks for watching!

Thanks for watching! I dont have that figure. If it is like the HT Spidey suits, it may be difficult to prevent the 'sticking'. Also, having a dislay cabinet is important, but it won't solve any humidity issues. Also, Detolfs are not sealed so your figures will get dusty. (I sealed my detolfs with strips of weathering pile. That really helps with the dust.)

@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 2 месяца назад
It depends on the environment in your display area. If you have a good HVAC system and/or the humidity in your area remains consistent and under 60%, I would say to reapply every 3- 6 months. Conversley, if your display area had no humidity control and humidity is constantly spiking (i.e., Tropic climates with no HVAC) then apply 1 to twice a month. (But in this latter scenario, the 303 will only help so much before the pleathe rbegins to detriorate. The firts goal is to first manage the humidity.)

Thanks for watching and good question. The issue with Leather Honey is that its only for Leather. Not for Faux leather or pleather. (According to the product info on their site.) Amazing tutorial, just what I needed! Love your work. Was wondering what would you recommend for Hot Toys Alien figures where the rubber body lost the original shine/gloss. Would that also be the 303 spray? Heard many people were using mod podge/gloss clear coat, but to my understanding that would significantly limit the articulation and make the figure static. Thanks in advance and keep up with the videos - brilliant content!
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 2 месяца назад
Thnaks for the kind words and for watching! This is a great question. (I may need to try something on my HT Dog Alien.) Mod Podge glass isnt a terrible idea. It shouldn't make too static, but it may not be as flexible as before. Another option is Angelus Gloss Coat. Because Angelus is designed for textiles, it should retain flexibility.

Great tutorial. I had no idea I needed to do this until about a year ago when I started seeing Hot Toys figures with cracked, flaking accessories posted in various places. I've been extremely lucky with my figures, but I'm going to perform the 303 maintenance ASAP! I purchased a sealed Star Lord recently. I know that the Hot Toys pleather coats are notorious for breaking down badly. I'm almost afraid to open it up. 😬
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 5 месяцев назад
Hey Thanks for watching and for your comment! Good luck and hopefully you don't see any issues. Starting with the 303 should help! And yes, unboxing an older figure is always nerve-wrecking. Even if the original owner had it displayed in a climate controlled area and took great care, who knows how long it was boxed up before getting to you and what the environment conditions were during shipping. (The older the Pleather, the more sucseptible it is to drastic climate changes.) Still, if the pleater on your particular figure was sealed, this should provide significant protection.

Thnaks for watching, and sorry to hear about the Mezco! If its pleather, and its cracked but not yet peeling, I would use Mod Podge. Thta should create a seal that prevents further detrioration.
