I love that you went the extra mile and made your own hilt and made a red light saber. In my opinion the green or blue ones are much easier to produce, because they already have the right color when lit. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!

this is a really good tutorial. Tested and some other video tutorials do exist, but none are as clear and thorough as this one. I'm also testing EL panels and EL wires for non-soldered, more temporary solutions so I can switch to deactivated lightsabers without buying too many 3d printed sabers

@@user-mg1ze9ty5f everything about EL wire is excellent. They're consistently at a great brightness, I can have them on for hours, and they can run of either usb or aa batteries. They're bright all the way through, and with a stiff EL wire, or an external housing, they can be made to look straight. Everything is perfect. EXCEPT THE CONSTANT BUZZING! Some inverters are silent, and some are super whiny. When you put 10 together, they are so insanely loud.

Got a few of these lightsabers, but had them made. So good to see a step by step on how it's done, got a video coming tomorrow on the best way to hide the wires once on the figures. I know it's not difficult but you be surprised how many ask about it. Anyway great video as always

@metamorphiccustoms

Thanks Sergio!!! They do get hot. As long as they are well insulated at all the soldering points and the heat shrink properly covers the CCFL and wire, it should be OK. I typically only leave mine on for an hour or so at a time.

My apologies on this one. I d/l it online but I do not recall where. I remember it was free, but I had to re-scale it to 1/6 scale (from 1/4), and went through a few prints before the size was right. Thanks for watching though! I recommend looking through CG trader.

Would it possible to use led wire instead so it doesn’t burn out? They make it thinner than the tube.

Very nice! I am inspired to try myself! I want to make one for my darth maul. So I figure I have to make 2 seperate sabers, but can I just connected them togheter further down the wire if you understand? will a 9/12V be able to drive 2 sabers?
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 2 года назад
Thank you and thanks for watching! Yes, I also made CCFL's for my HT Episode 1 and Solo Mauls. It works the same way. I drilled the small hole for the wire a bit lower on each of the double-bladed hilts.This is so when you combine both sides of the hilt to make the single hilt, both wire sets (one from each blade) exists the combined hilt closer to the center. You can then twist together both sets of wires so only 1 single strand of wires comes out of the double bladed hilt. (Keeps it a bit cleaner.)

This was a great tutorial ty for all the time and your service. I have a question. I ve been trying to this is 12th scale. I've been successful, with a very similar process. I def learned a couple things here but my questions is, are you familiar with the wireless process with the 3v pin batteries? I've collected all the pieces, I believe, I'm just having trouble with how to assemble?

Sure! You just have to source the correct USB plug & converter. I admit, I have not done it myself, but its definitely possible and I've seen it done before.

Is there a difference between painting the cover of a white light versus buying the red ones?
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms Год назад
Thanks for watching, and good question. I havent done this with a basic white CCFL yet. But I know some go that route. What I've read is the red color is less pronounced and more of a pink (as you could probably imagine). But, that maybe exactly the look some prefer. (Personally, I prefer the more vibrant red.)

Hey thanks for watching! Unfortunately, no. This is one product I never took commisions on, but I did want to teach people my process hence the video. There are a few people on FB which have offered custom 1:6 CCFL sabers in the past. Do a quick google search for Chris Custom Sabers. (He was the last person I heard of that was taking commisions on these, but I never personally bought any from him since I would make my own.)

Does the Wire need to be 30 gauge?
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 6 месяцев назад
Not really. Its just the guage I find works well with the scale. (i.e., fitting into the hilt.) You may have some difficulty fitting a thicker wire into a standard 1:6 scale hilt. Thanks for watching!

You’re very welcome and thanks for watching! I use a 12v 1A (or 2a) power supply to power 2 CCFL sabers. I would recommend you get a UL or ETL listed power supply.

How long can it be on
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms Год назад
The wiring and process is identical for any size CCFL. So you just have to source a CCFL tube light in the length you prefer. If you're making a light saber for 1:6th scale figures, make sure the width of the ccfl stays the same as the length gets longer. This will be imortant to ensure the tube can fit in the 1:6 hilt. Thanks for watching and for the question!

Hey Desy you have a link to the 3D files for the sabers?
@metamorphiccustoms
@metamorphiccustoms 2 года назад
I honestly don’t recall where I got it! I remember d/l several files until I found one that I thought looked good and “worked”. If I remember correctly, the one I used was actually a 1:1 scale file that I then scaled down in Lychee slicer. Typically I get files from Thingyverse or CGTrader. Do a few quick searches there until you see something you like. (Just know you’ll probably have to do some scaling before you print.)
