Too cold. Didnt follow instructions. This is a skill taught in grade school. 70°minimum. There's too much shit like this. People eush it or dont read the instructions, and they fuck it up. You tube needs an enema.
I just found that it wasn't that much better than cheap rust paint. The one time I used it, it was many times more expensive, was difficult to work with, and didn't prevent the rust from coming back. I'll just use Rustoleum from now on. I can just reapply in a couple of years.
It failed to adhere cos you're too lazy to prep the metal correctly before using POR15. No paint, POR15 included can adhere to a smooth surface, metal surface needs to be sanded either by hand or machine to give the paint a key to grab a hold onto. POR15 in tin form, settles out & congeals in the base of the can, so it must always be stirred prior to use for a good 10mins with a clean stirring stick. Remove as much rust as poss, it's not magic, you're a fool if u expect any paint to adhere to rust, rust is oxidisation & not part of the metal, so it's a loose coating & as such must be removed by sanding or blasting. Degreased as with all paints, then use POR15 metal prep, which is their version of an acid etch solution, metal must be kept wet for a good 15mins, longer the better imho, so it's a time consuming process, then wash it off with water & fully dried with compressed air or an air blower, never touch the metal with your bare hands, you always secrete oils thru skin. Always wear disposable gloves, get this stuff on skin, & you're in trouble, near impossible to get it off. Don't go mad with the 1st coat, as thin as poss, consider 1st coat a primer coat. Never attempt a 2nd coat until a good 12hrs has passed, brushes need throwing away after use, don't attempt cleaning em, you'll only contaminate the paint next time. POR15 takes a good week to be touch dry, 2 wks or more to cure in mild temps, may take months in cold temps, if air temp is below 10 degrees Centigrade, pre-heat the metal with a hot air gun before painting, add some heat after painting, don't get it too hot tho, if it's raining outside & you've a dry garage, this is the best time to use PO15, damp atmosphere actually helps it cure faster. It stinks big time, so use a ventilated area, doesn't really air dry in the way most other paints do, it's a chemical reaction between the brush on metal prep & the paint itself. Sunlight degrades the finish, so any exposed areas need a gloss top coat, easier to use spray on top coat gloss 24hrs after 2nd brush on coat.
I had the same problem when I used it. Got my frame nice and clean, it did the same thing. People on here will defend it saying oh it’s gotta have some rust you gotta use this or that. As far as I’m concerned, it a product can’t stick to bare, degreased metal… it’s trash. Especially for that price. You should have to have the perfect light coat of rust. Some people have good luck with it, but I don’t.
HELLLLLLLLLOOOO< you obviously didn't follow the instructions........ Good help the poor person that buys ANYTHING you ever work on. Poor review!!!!!!!
Por15 is junk. I applied it to my 4runner after degreasing followed by their metal prep and most of it peeled off of the smooth areas. The areas that had rust that it bonded to started to buckle after 2yrs. Very few spots turned out nicely. What kind of "coating" isnt uv resistant? I learned from that mistake now I treat rust first with concrete and metal prep followed by rustoleum. Under coatings of surface shield, fluid film, or woolwax help keep the rust from spreading better.
On this particular application the metal is not oxidized enough. If you are going to apply it onto cleaned or barely rusted metal like this, you have to use the self-etcher.
As a coating specialist for a major coatings manufacturer for 20 years, and a production powder coating company owner for 30 years, I can suggest to you that no coating can glue itself down thru improper surface preparation. When a coating lifts in sheets, there was something on the surface that prevented the coating from properly adhering before cure/dry took place. Have to follow directions and be smarter than the parts your painting.
Industrial painter for Timberjack and John Deere here, custom painter for over thirty years. I actually tried to cut corners with POR, Don’t! You are correct, this was user error 💯 percent. I saw this same thing happen to a Grand National, people rush through the preparation then wonder why their paint peels off like a glove..😂
You need to use the cleaner and for sure the degreaser that is recommended for por15 I learned quick you can’t use any solvents as degreaser because of the residue film solvents create I am a believer in this stuff sorry your experience sucked
This paint actually saved my 2001 rusted undercarriage Mustang... And it glued to the frame and body panels very well ! You just had a bad batch or you did something wrong for sure !
My experience with rust encapsulators have been similar. They peel off in sheets and allow rust to form underneath. This stuff might work ok on other metals but I am no longer using it in automotive applications.
You stated in the video right away that you used "degreaser" and then went straight to the POR15 final product, guess what. You skipped essential steps using the product. If you had followed the steps properly then you wouldn't have had this issue. Instructions: Prep your surface/grind off rust, degrease, spray with water, metal prep (phosphoric acid), rinse with water, apply POR15, let cure for 2 hours, apply 2nd coat. Allow to cure, protect POR15 with some paint so UV rays don't degrade the POR15.
You clearly have a conceptual misunderstanding of how por15 works, not to mention the fact that you clearly did not use the prep.. this is %100 your fault.
Its sad this man cant read . It says on the can paint on rust the reason it says that is so it has somthing to hold to but clearly this man has no common sense . Must be a millennial .
Vigilante Mythbusters Do’s & Don’ts: -Do post videos that show off your ignorance. -Don’t read instructions, no matter how short and simple they are. If you can’t or prefer not to read there are about 10 million vids on how to do it properly but you go on with your bad self and show the world how smart you are.
I wonder if they sell a metal etching metal prep phosphoric acid with zinc before you apply the product😂 that’s kind of like with the factory dips a car into when it’s made before the primer
@@properbritishbacon yes, the battery charges for about 30 minutes, the battery is still working fine. I also have a fairy similar to you, I disassembled the fairy's part to fix it, but I thought it was a battery failure but it's not, it damaged the motor, maybe the motor was weak or bumped many times. so the motor is weak, you need to replace the motor, or in the third case, I think the gear of the fairy is worn, you need to measure the size and go to the repair shop to fix it.
@@properbritishbacon yes, i want to say again, do you sell this doll with a base, the same color as you, or is this doll still for sale, the one with a sole, my little sister also I want one like that, can you guide me to order, I'm in Vietnam, thank you
POR-15 likes rusted surfaces! Seasoned metal and sandblasted metal are also good. POR-15 Rust Preventive Coatingdoes not adhere well to smooth, shiny surfaces, but will adhere well to those surfaces with the proper preparation.
That looks like fairly pristine metal. YOU CAN'T USE POR-15 ON METAL THAT IS NOT RUSTED. POR-15 IS ONLY FOR RUSTED METAL. You also have to follow the directions thoroughly. I used it on my rusted truck frame, and it has held up great. IF METAL TREATED WITH POR-15 WILL BE EXPOSED TO DIRECT SUN FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME, A TOP COAT OF ANY PAINT THAT WITHSTANDS DIRECT SUN MUST BE USED. Direct sunlight is the only thing that breaks down POR-15.
