We are Suzie and Rols, following our dream of moving to France. We bought our chateau on March 2021 but we quickly learnt that it was in fact formerly a 15th century Citadelle (a stronghold/fortress). It had been unoccupied for 35 years, but was previously owned by 3 generations of the same family.
One of our requirements was to have an enclosed walled garden for our rescue furbabies, in fact the whole of our land is enclosed, so it was perfect, we have our own little kingdom!
Join us on our journey and watch this, once neglected but now much loved, chateau come back to life.
Back in the days people just used what was inexpensive or free such as the beams in your shed, isn't it? They were really not rich, château or not. Might I suggest that you daub the wall with live chalk -- chaux vive. It absolutely makes an end to critters such as red lice etc. But if you do wear heavy protective gear because it absolutely burns into the skin.
You both look lovely under the tent. It looks hot there. We are in a cold spell again after 1 day of heat. Strange summer for us. Little rain and little heat. I am OK with this, though. I don't do well in the heat with my asthma. Rols, the chicken coop will be taking reservations soon. Word is out about the planned 5 star ratings you already have! Lots of love and laughs to you all.❤😂😊
What a feat! It's going to one snazzy palais du poulet!! Suggestion: perhaps put a tarp over open roof to keep sun off Rols while he works on reno in coop.
Love to you both. You are really making progress , it is so wonderful to see.I am so glad you put on a hat. I was just thinking where is his hat ,the next thing you know you are wearing one. I so wish for you both to be happy in your space. It’s turning out beautifully. God Bless you both 🩷
Wow Rols....that's the way to do it....a total gut to start afresh! Well done! Your out building are going to be amazing if this is how you are going to proceed. Lots of work but will be an amazing outcome. Great job...well done!!
that thin layer concrete, seeing you pick a few up. in America this slab is called rat slab. Usually poured between 1 to 1.5 inch thick (left wavy underneath). purpose stop rats and other animals from tunneling into the structure either palace-shack-coop. usually no or little sand underneath. the former slab, seems to be a lazy pour. that is pour in small area let cure, pour next small area, cure. that result in easy breaking up the slab. your choice to do 2 inch thick concrete...
Surely that's a good thing rynait? I don't have a clue. Just in awe of Rols working in that heat. After thought: Keeping the rats out would be a bonus, but it appears the chicken door could fit rats through too
@@daisylovelock9553 yes. and I was more of awestruck with "what kind shenanigan done with chicken wires everywhere and nest boxes so fancy!, felt like 'after thought' by previous owner(s)." Yeah Rols has to get mess out to get it all back to basics, even floor is basic but was not done right. my choice is rat slab, but not lazy pour method.
Nice work Rols. I’m an older man retired in the USA now but when I watch you and Susie it makes me want to Help you. Oh well I would probably just get in your way. Keep Up the good work. Rich in NewJersey / USA
A huge job to tackle. The wooden parts certainly were built to last, not just thrown together. Too bad you have to do the floor too but you’ll know the finished build will be sound. All the best! 👍🏻❤
What a horrible job this is. But, you take it all in stride. You are such a hard working Man and everything turns out just perfect, as I'm sure your Chicken Building will too.
Rols and Suzie, the chicken palace is coming along just fine. Can’t wait to see the progress you will be making. I like this project very much. Stay save in the heath and blessings for you 2 and the doggies. Best wishes Tina 😘
Lovely vase and flowers. I have been trying to get my outdoor work done by 10 am to beat the heat. Yesterday was 110F today is much cooler with possible tornados on Friday. Take care😊
Careful in that heat both of you. Great work on the demo thus far and the lawn mowing. That vase is beautiful. Hopefully, there is a way to stop the leaking.❤
The vase is called an epergne. I have the exact same one. So pretty. They were used as table centrepieces or on a side table. The more elaborate ones also had little baskets hanging off. They were likened to indoor fountains ie with flowers rather than plumes of water. Popular in late victorian times.
Doves & Guinea Fowl, how exciting, Suzie!! Rols, your implementatiin of Suzie's vision for the Chicken coop will be awesome!! Can't wait, but I'm enjoying the journey! Thank you both & many Blessings!! 🇺🇸
Well done Rols, you're definitely indefatigable! You have such a good eye Suzie for pretty things, the vase is beautiful and looks gorgeous with the roses. Much love to you both ❤😊
