It can be used with a gas stove or a gas burner. According to the product listing, its recommended uses are: "Outdoor cooking, charcoal and wood fire cooking, grilling, and versatile cooking configurations such as griddle, skillet, wok, Dutch oven, and pizza oven."
A good trick is to use a Flame King 1 lb refillable propane cylinder to power the skottle. It’s a little pricey at the start, but you’ll save if you go through lots of the disposable 1 lb bottles. I can fill a 20 lb cylinder at Costco for $12 and perpetually refill my little bottle from there. No hoses to trip over and knock your skottle over so it’s safer too. I think i paid $95 for a refillable cylinder and the refill kit, the second bottle was another $50, but that was a waste of money. Since you can refill a partially full bottle, you can always start with it full. The same bottle later gets used to run the lantern.
Thanks for the note. We have used the Flame King refillable 1 lb bottles, and their refill kit. Works great. We like it so much we made a video about it. 🤗
You're welcome. I so agree. Southwest Disk also has 18" discs that are lighter than their 22", and more comparable in size to the Tembo Tusk Skottle. Thanks for watching and stopping by to comment.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors I will try to go even more on the "economic side" with a classical Paella burner and stand - to get everyone happy on some outdoor foods and moments. That's what matters to me the most. Thanks, again for your reviews and Vlog.
Thanks for comparing the amount of soot left on the bottom of the pans. I wanted to know if there was a difference between the two. Yours is the only comparison video I could find that compared this aspect. Great video!
These are the coordinates: 43.67094431906602, -102.5679547092275 The name of the trail is Sheep Mountain Overlook Trail. There is only one road. The map and notes at the beginning of the video show the map, and signs that we followed.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't work well for overnight sleeping. It only holds a usable amount of air for 4 or 5 hours. It isn't flat, so it would be tough on the shoulder to sleep in for anything more than a quick nap. It's great for lounging though.
Nice to have your puppy dog help with clean up. Looks like a nice saw. I see a lot of overlanders carry electric chain saw to clear trailers from fallen tree. Will look into it. Thanks for your review.
🙂 Skadi pup is a good little helper. She carries the limbs all over the yard. 😄 I am very pleased with the little saw. It does a good job and is holding up well. Thank you for watching.
Coghlins stove in my opinion is the best. It’s sturdy and the heat space inside is small enough and gets hot enough that you can boil water with a sterno or knock off sterno.cans. I gave one to my daughter because of the hurricane and I have already ordered my replacement. I intend to get one for each of my children with 10 cans of fuel.
It can not be refilled. This practice spray is pressurized and sealed during manufacturing, and is single use. It is designed to simulate actual use of the bear spray. The bear spray is also single use and not refillable.
I enjoyed your review and really like the small size. I'm considering getting it. QUESTION PLEASE: What is the measurement of the BOTTOM'S "FLAT BURNER PLATE"? I'm HOPING it measures less than 5" inches on it's flat surface.
@@wobblyotteroutdoors I am so grateful happy that you measured it for me. I believe it would work perfectly with my mini griddle! My griddle currently has a skillet (dia of 4.7" ) but a WOK is so much easier to Stir-fry in when the dia is a mini size so I've been trying to find a suitable upgrade. The LODGE seems to be that suitable answer! 😊 🙏 😊 🙏
I have the XL version and i just put down all the flats and put either a zip tie or used rope to hold the corners down so wind wouldnt pick up the flaps and make so much noise and slept pretty comfortably the tent still made good amount of noise but wasnt that bad after tying down the flaps
🤣🤣🤣 I know, right! The bear did great and handled the proximity much better than I did. I'm not used to being around bears, so it made me a little uneasy. It would have helped if it wasn't dark.
I made one out of a old plow disk about 10 years ago. I used horse shoes for the handles and welded a ring on the bottom so that it set level on a fish fryer. I've made chili and stew in it, but my favorites is making breakfast burritos and frying crawdads in it.
@ironmank9554 here's a used camper for sale of a different brand, with a close to identical layout, that is for sale as of June 20, 2024: rv.campingworld.com/rvdetails/used-travel-trailer-rvs/k-z-rv-expandable-0k-2403831 Looks like this style is referred to as a "hybrid."
Ok, great. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on efficiency as to the reason for the drops-first instructions. Opening after the treated 2.5 gallons will not jeopardize the effectiveness of the water preserver? I've read, "Do not open until you're ready to drink." I'm guessing that's not applicable if opening momentarily. Again, thanks for creating this content and sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm hoping more people are realizing they need to be ready in case services we've taken for granted for so long, are interrupted.
Thanks for your review on this product. Your review is one of the few, (or only) real review of this water preserver. I bought 5 gallon military dark green water storage containers. The directions on this water preserver solution states to put the drops into the container before you fill the water into the container. For me, that cannot be done due to me using filtered water from an Alexapure filter system. So I can only fill 2.5 gallons at a time. Do you think that the instructions to put the drops into an empty container prior to the water being filled, is to assist in mixing it altogether? I don't want to put the drops into the empty 5 gallon containers, then fill 2.5 gallons, close it, filter mother other 2.5 gallons, than open it to fill the remaining. Sorry for the long question but there's so many assumptions in this world of water preservation and not enough detailed instructions for newbies.
You're welcome. Thank you for watching and the thoughtful comments. Yes, I think putting in the drops first is to assist in mixing the drops with the water. For your setup, it might work to filter and add the first 2.5 gallons of water. When you have the next 2.5 gallons of water filtered, add the drops, then add the remainder of the water. That should still assist with the mixing.
Thank you so much for this orderly review. My childhood friend sent this to my Border Collie, Fiona, for her birthday so she can have soothing, outdoor baths. I particularly wanted to see that the pump is really fully submerged, because it goes against my logic to place a battery in water!
You're welcome. I can appreciate the apprehension of submersible a part containing a battery. Such a thoughtful gift for Fiona. I hope you both enjoy it.
That is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing. I love this. Special places hold special meanings and memories, and we get to keep those with us - always.
You're welcome, Todd. Thanks for watching. It was tasty, and quite hefty. It does rise - well, some. It has a good bit of baking powder in the recipe. It's a little surprising that it doesn't rise more. Maybe my baking powder wasn't a freshly opened can. Definitely a good recipe using simple, long lasting (survival) ingredients.
Thanks for reviewing these products. I have seen the plow disk (skottle) on other channels. Look like can cook lot for big crowd. I still really like my cast iron pans. I know can be heavy but I am still using pans that my grandfather used for years.
You're welcome. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It's hard to beat cast iron pans, especially those that have been in the family for generations. The plow disk pans from Southwest Disk are also quite heavy due to their size and thick steel. You are spot on about them being great for large groups.
