That’s as clear as mud. You need to go through the controls and rigging first then reef but then you need to describe the action at the reefing rig/ control point.
Why do I picture a HUGE fight at the Beneteau office? Monsieur Rockford Cognac from VPLP swinging the couch cushion at Mrs. Josephine Beneteau and yelling "YOU ASKED FOR A CHEAP OUTREMER, YOU WITCH, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT!!!". And Mrs. Josephine Beneteau hitting him back with a frying pan from the galley screaming "BUT I WANT A BIGGER VANITY, TOO, PIERRE-JEAN! SO GIMME!!!" Given Beneteau's tremendous cost-cutting capabilities this will be cheaper than Outremer. But it's already not as fun. No swinging helms, for one... BOOOO! However, there is ONE thing that I would happily have on Outremer - NO BLOODY ROPE SPAGHETTI IN THE COCKPIT!!!!!!!! MY GOD, Outremer is cluttered with lines going everywhere. This is a much neater design.
This took away what i liked about the gunboat. I liked the in cabin center helm. I liked the front foredeck to walk to from the helm. This thing is a cruiser, not the ferrari of the ocean anymore.
Maybe Hallberg can explain why they went with two unprotected rudders vice one protected one. It seems that Kraken is the only one building true blue water cruisers then.
So, it's slow (1/4 the speed of a petrol powered one), has minimal range, can only hold one person, and is 3-4 times the price... I don't particularly see it appealing to any of the people that I see on the lakes riding PWCs... The *only* saving grace is that it might just be slow enough that you can drink a beer while riding it...
Sailing is a first world country sport. Anyone in a third world country would get rid of the sails and put an outboard on his canoe the second he can afford one...
Can’t imagine anything I’d rather do less. If there’s one thing a sailboat isn’t supposed to do it’s crash into the water. I definitely prefer boats stay floating.
... erm, did you watch the video? It floats. It sails like a normal dinghy until you put the foils down and get going fast enough to lift up. If the wind drops, you can sail like a normal dinghy again.
Give it a try. Sailed a Nacra 17 foiler for the first time last weekend and it was a blast. Sails well in displacement mode too. There's room for both in this world.
I became a fan of the cup through Formal One and it's aerodynamics. So I did feel some fear as the big money teams announced their F1 partnerships (ferrari plz partner with Luna Rossa). Stoked to see TNZ have built another gorgeous yacht. 🇳🇿Go kiwis 🇳🇿
The two best boats right now, absent tactics, boat handling and foils are NZ and American Magic. The difference? NZ double main vs AM's low windage profile. But it's early and there are many variables.
Also, the cyclor positions. AM is the only yacht that features recumbent cyclors although how that will pan out with power availability remains to be seen.
@@jamesaron1967 I'm guessing they really thought this one through. When you think about it the reduction in windage from a normal cyclor station to the new recumbent stations is only a very small advantage. I don't think they would jeopardize a reduction in power output for a marginal gain in windage savings. I'm sure they did a lot of testing with the cyclors.
