A new benchmark has been created. Fantastic review, Toby. This is truly an exceptionally designed and hand crafted sailing vessel. I love everything about this boat. Especially the winch and tweaker layout at the mast. It's so nice to see a modern midships design for the halyards and hydraulics at the mast. I'm so tired of seeing aft run cruiser spaghetti. The running rigging here is all just beautiful. And that mainsheet traveler and vang/outhaul controls ... 🍒 the chef's kiss. Absolutely superb.

In the video it looks nice but can't relay the feel. In real life, I had butterflies. That hasn't happened in a long time, and it's a first for a boat. Thanks to the owner for bringing her to the Southampton boat show and opening this beauty to the public. The serenity of this beauty is beyond any boat I have seen.

Really great review, yacht looks amazing, seems to sail brilliantly too. Certainly the best forward owners cabin I've ever seen on a sailing yacht. Personally I'd never have been interested in a classic looking yacht until now. Spirit seem to have moved yacht design into the 21st century. Real thought put into reducing the impact on the environment with low maintenance required on a really fantastic yacht.

Blimey, theres a few negative comments on this one. Personally I think its stunning, not sure I understand some of the choices but it isnt my boat and nor could I afford one (likely ever). Sounds like the owner chose what he wanted, can afford to too so good for him. 😊 Thanks for showing us around Toby.

I saw her in Fowey last year. Took my tender and circled her a couple of times, she’s stunning. There were two couples onboard plus a young man (looked like paid crew). I watched as this young man, single handedly, winch their tender and haul it up the starboard side of the paintwork to get it onboard. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, I don’t think the owner was aware! Price I believe sits somewhere between 4-5 million.

Been on a visit to Spirit yachts in Ipwich. Craftsmanship of the highest order. These are to yachting what Holland & Holland are in the shotgun world. Stunning boats.

That is the perfect boat! I deleted the maintainence checkbox, so- as long as vanishing, polishing, upkeep & repairs are covered- I'll sell my soul to own one. Maybe, that one? You did mention that he's a serial owner, maybe he'll want cruise @ say 15 knots- gotta move up! I'm in, besides Toby's in love w/ it.

Nice to see hull with classic bow and stern. Beautiful and functional, unlike "modern" yacht design which are ugly by comparison.

For me - the DH 72 with the sail plan of the 63 and the layout of the 65. Built to sail the World ARC - Done!

Wood wood glorious wood.. Spirit really does make the Saville row of modern wooden boats. I look forward to seeing what they can do with the emerging generation of chemically modified enhanced timbers They could end up outperforming many composites. The Dutch and Scandinavians are working with them in fact they've built a steel girder replacement bridge over a motorway from the modified softwood produced. It sounds like it will be perfect for thin laminate sheets. The big advantage is its Carbon negative and if you can keep damage and decay at bay by stopping microbes from feeding on the modified wood even beyond the Epoxy/bio epoxy these guys are already exploring. Then you can lock the energy and carbon and labour into a really long life beautiful hull...thats also light and sustainable. Providing owners can steer clear of designer fashion trends... those things are not where Spirit is springing from 😉

Why no teak pades under the deck winches?

So what's the price? You usually say when you tour boats. (I am sure I don't want to know...) This is a STUNNER. There are quite a few boutique custom builders out there, and these guy surely are right up there with the best of the best. Besides the craftmanship and extraordinary attention to detail, they have given the boat SOUL, which you Toby, skillfully communicated - thank you!

For a boat to be sailed short-handed you think Spirit would have dispensed with symmetrical kites and spinnaker poles in favor of Asymmetrics. What’s going on here?

It is so beautiful. Craftsmanship at its highest. But I would hate to sail this boat into blue water. Its designed for show off in the harbour and whiskys in the salon. Which is nice. But a sailboat of the 21 century is one where you do no constantly risk falling overboard or get a wave down the neck. In my honest opinion.

Spirit yachts make some great classic yachts but it would be hard for me to personally justify the insane price tags, if I had the money, to sail in something that purposely is made to look like it was out of the 19th century with very little creature comforts. I get the whole classical vibe and heritage thing, I personally like it, but the yacht is something I would use only for a weekend sail close the coast or racing like the owner does, which for the price tag, is too much for a boat to just do that. Not that I am even close to being able to purchase a yacht and I guess if you're rich enough the price tag of your toys doesn't really matter.

While this is a beautiful looking boat it doesnt look great for off-shore sailing. I dont understand the bench with the traveler on it. If one is actually sitting at the helm you would need to climb over that bench. That doesn't seem safe at the dock let alone on a heeling boat in rough seas. Sounds like maybe rails/hand holds will be added but again not safe walking stern to bow. Maybe good for racing but definitely not a liveaboard or for short sailing 1-2 people or kids.

Spirit yachts who threatened legal action against a delivery captain because he filmed there supposedly great boat continually breaking down. Disgraceful if they’d of been polite and just asked the same could have happened. Nothing special about a great looking boat that’s not fit for purpose.

I guess I'm not the target market but that looks miserable to be on. You're so exposed to the elements when you're outside and there's no railing. On the inside, except for the kitchen, there's no natural light. It's beautiful but does not look enjoyable.

Yes, lovely to look at. But no way thanks, wet, small accommodation, no two handing, dangerous deck.
