Thanks for sharing this detailed tour! Its obviously a new and different series, and when you build as precisely and technically as we do, we expect Gunboat fans will have opinions that are just as "specific"! We apply performance tech and race boat technology to, what is at its core, a fully equipped, cruising catamaran platform. There's a huge range of interests and sailing plans on the continuum from full cruising to racing. Since 2016 under the ownership of GLY, Gunboat has been specializing in highly customizable builds and delivering on promises to the owners who contract these builds. There's a give and take between the recommendations we make and the ideals of owners (with varying goals and sailing experiences). Each boat that we launch represents a unique manifestation of that. Right now we're offering three new-build models. The Gunboat 70 is next gen Gunboat 68, the same length as the 72 but a heritage Gunboat design (which we expect many longtime Gunboat fans might find more appealing!). The 72 pushes the boundaries of cruising optimizations further than we've considered in the past, and opens up the benefits of our approach to a few more cruising programs. And the 80 is just a weapon! Each series offers exceptional quality and the highest level of customization yet. When you look at a Gunboat, we hope you understand the above and enjoy imagining how you would prefer to build yours. Wishing you all happy holidays and great sailing adventures!

Overall style and comfort/finish looks great, my only negative (to me) is I just can't imagine sailing her with the only full-helm being on the coach roof though. Would be interesting to see this Cat under sail in foul weather or passage-making and hear what the Captain/crew/owner thinks. Ultimately though, it's what the owner wanted, and while anyone else is free to love/hate on it, it's the owner who needs to live with it lol

@@LoanwordEggcorn True, but this configuration is being offered as a standard model (dual helm option - also on the flybridge), and since it's CE:A rated, I was just thinking it would be interesting to hear feedback about extended cruising/passage making conditions. Other cats offer primary/full helm options on a flybridge (ex. Lagoon and Nautitech being 2 others), but those generally offer a bimini or hardtop. I'm personally just not sold on the fully exposed fly helm for anything other than coastal/day cruising.

Flybridges are for drinking and shenanigans, usually while anchored or docked. Whoever owns this boat is most likely not doing any serious "sailing" as evidenced by that wonderful pile of sheets in front of the helm.

Apologies, but I can't shake the feeling that GLY has somewhat diluted the essence of the Gunboat brand. There was a time when Gunboats epitomized coolness - sleek, full carbon racer-cruisers that couples could effortlessly handle for cruising or strip down for racing with a small crew. They were the epitome of a sailor's catamaran. Nowadays, they seem oversized, requiring a crew just for basic cruising, with an abundance of amenities and cabins...and now a flybridge. It appears that the target customer for Gunboat has shifted from what it once was.

Surprised gunboat agreed to build a gin palace. I guess money can buy everything 😂 In all seriousness it would be great to see it sailing to see how compromised that helm is. And to be fair if that’s what the owner is going to use it for then fair play!

Not a fan of the flybridge and helm on the coach roof. I would prefer a fwd or a mid position helm with the coach roof covered with solar panels.
@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665
@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 8 месяцев назад
Personally i agree ... I dont like the idea of dealing with a raised boom and main especially underway.. I can see a pop up helm like some motor yats with a hard roof ...and walk on solar panels like a Windelo where if youve enough juice in the batteries you can just put sun pads on top ... but i suspect these are using generators or super alternators to charge their systems and haven't realised that they and the dinosaur juice they use🦕 are both facing the end of the line in more and more places. Even the heavyweight global shipping guys are being forced to look to methanol hydrogen and or hybrid sail, powered electric systems especially In coastal waters or ports. Large areas of the Med scandinavia the Caribbean and ultimately Oceania are going to be looking very carefully at boats burning derv especially at anchor if they want to stop over or enter pollution sensitive areas/harbours. Running derv generators to charge water toys and loud onboard hi-fi's monster tV screens in round the clock aircon systems and even create look at me light pollution might not be so well received very shortly. The balance of materials going into constructing these sort of vessels also needs looking at, Carbon fiber is environmentally very expensive/polluting... if your going racing maybe its ok but theres an element of fiddling whist the likes of Vanuatu sink.. and then some complain about environmental migrants.. Im not saying folks cannot buy nice boats but the toys need to be less harmful to build and run and possibly be less in your face, especially when you decide to go visiting the other 98%. 🏜️🏞️🏝️🏖️ that live in beautiful places. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I know companies talk about offsetting..🙄 but i would rather see it happening now as savings in the product, its use and life cycle.

When people love the idea of a brand more than they like what the brand it stands for. I want a Ferrari. But make it a SUV, I like to be comfortable. I want a Gunboat. But make it a flybridge cruiser, I like to be comfortable. Giving customers everything they ask for may be good for short-term buisness. But what does it do to brand identity?
@IanMacLeansnv
@IanMacLeansnv 28 дней назад
I'm not sure. The Panamera looks like an SUV humping a 911, the Macan is basically a hot hatch, but Porsche seems to have protected their brand identity well enough. The Ferrari SUV really knocks the brand down in my book though...

I’m guessing they plan on sailing by autopilot or not going very far? Even in the tropics 20 knots can get cold with no protection. Good on them, but that does seem like an odd choice.

The first boat to cross the finish line in a sailboat race gets the gun. The name Gunboat is a nod to the performance design and build, applying race boat technology to the cruising catamaran platform. Its an effortless speed thats enjoyed primarily in cruising mode, but can also be pushed further in race mode with a team.

I really had a Yechh reaction, but after thinking about it a little bit I'm going to reserve my criticism for the owner and give gunboat a pass. They are essentially selling custom yachts, in this case as a party platform with a captain and crew. Real sailors who understand the appeal of sipping hot chocolate while nice and dry during a cold rain storm can buy their own with the forward helm. All you need is the cash. I still buy lotto tickets with this brand foremost in my fantasies, and this dumb boat isn't going to affect that.
