Hey! We did this run on September 11th. It had snowed up high a few days before we ran, but we didn't run into any of the snow... it was all melted by the time we arrived.
Great Video. Makes me want to get back there asap! Not going to lie - spent way too much time looking at your shot of the shelter with paddles at the Chute to see if I could spot our paddle!
"I knew it was going to be rainy and cold, but it hits different when you get rainy and cold" Great stuff, seriously great video, definitely gets me jazzed to get out there. Amazing work!
Thanks Chris! Definitely a night and day difference from the furnace condition the year before! You never know what you're going to get with The Buckshot.
Well done Mike!! You even had a taste of the singlespeeding life. 😆 We limp like a sad puppy all the time. 😭🐕Haha!! Great job gutting it out and not showing even a hint of giving up. 💪💪
Dean, I thought of you ALOT that morning. I don't know how you SS folks do it. Your knees must be made of titanium. That slow cadence pedaling did a number on me... and it was only like 2.5 - 3 hours. Thinking of doing that for the whole 🐘 blows my small mind. I salute you sir 🫡
Thanks Mike, as someone who dropped out around km 100km it was nice to see what the rest of the course was like! I'm considering heading to Cranbrook for Lost Elephant so maybe I'll see ya there.
Amazing effort. I always wonder if it's worth running electric gears. I own 2 bikes with electric gears but for these endurance races it makes me wonder if it's worth it or not..
Thanks Paul! It's hard to say. I'm sure it was just bad luck. I've had a decent track record with AXS so far. The alarming thing is that the Derailleur seems fine now. Doesn't inspire confidence... Cheers!
You're incredible! This filming and production are amazing - I'm not sure how you found the space to film given those conditions. Wow! Such tough luck with the mechanicals. Figure it was the cold temps that drained your AXS batteries? I rode the entire BC Epic on a single AXS battery last year! Must have been the cold, eh? Favourite moment: Robyn's videobomb "WE'RE HAVING A DECENT TIME!" Good on you for even completing that. Looked like a scratch in Pritchard and just saying "fugg it!" would have been what most would have done. Sweet vid, Mike.
You're so kind Steve! Thanks man. Definitely wasn't the cold. It started to exhibit issues early in the day after the first mud bath. It would downshift completely fine, but shifting up to large cogs would take 5-7 seconds. I think it was taxing the motor for these shifts, and drank the battery infinitly faster than normal. Very strange. It's working fine now too... so who knows. Missed you out there buddy!
It felt like a long stretch for sure, but I was pretty focused on just not breaking another chain, so I completely forgot I was alone. Was so relieved to roll into town still pedaling!
So, so good. Seeing all the rain, snow, mud and cold makes me feel so much less FOMO ;) Riding with Robyn is such a treat though. Congrats on the strong finish despite the mechanicals!!
Thank you so much Julie! Don't worry about the FOMO at all! It was a pretty brutal one. Riding with Robyn was definitely the highlight... what a guy! Hope you're doing awesome!
Dude that was sooo good! You definitely undersold how difficult you had it during the last hours of the race, seeing it here I’m just wowed at how strong you finished with so many curveballs thrown your way!
Ah man, thanks Kodi! Looking back now, I feel like there is maybe more I could have done to stay competitive, but I'm also so happy with how things turned out. Also as happy as I am for your incredible finish!
Thanks so much for capturing this event! Excellent editing and story telling. It's so nice to see what you guys really go through out there. Watching the trackers never does it justice. Kodi and Robyn, you guys are amazing.
I think those kids cokes on an “unsupported” race can be considered “support” ….. need to look at the rules in detail … you need to be careful with the little things that may seem harmless
Beauty. Seems you had great weather...at least in the shared footage. I'll be doing the circuit this May with 5-friends. Preparing for the worst (cold/wet) but will hope for the best (less cold/less wet). :)
I love watching every video involving the Bowron chain. I noticed you guys left the same day as I did. You stayed at Campsite 11 and I was directly across at 12. As I'm watching I see that you had cart problems. I talked to someone at the Chute that had cart problems. Then I ran the chute and the roller coaster and went on my way while someone took a video of me doing it. I looked closer at your video and it is me going through the Chute. What are the odds that i am watching a youtube video and end up seeing myself. I'm glad the cart hung on until the end. That is one of my biggest fears. I've done it 6 times now and it is my favorite place in the world.
Oh amazing! We absolutely remember you. It was awesome to chat with you a bit and to grab a shot of someone making the chute look so straight forward. The cart issues were stressful at the time, but ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. What an incredible place! I'm jealous of how many times you've experienced it. Glad you found the video!
Thanks so much for your kind words Kathryn! It's genuinely very meaningful to hear things like this and is one of the reasons I love putting these films together. ❤️
Great video. Love the underwater shots. We did the same trip in late June 2023. The water was noticeably higher especially in the Cariboo River and man the water was cold. Stayed at many of the same campsites. We hit a lot of wind towards the end of the trip especially in Spectacle Lakes. Had a few more layover days. Awesome trip.
