Welcome to Baltimore where the Inaugural season of the new Baltimore Ravens will take on the Oakland Raiders. We see the old Baltimore Colts here embracing the new team as if they are a continuation of the old Colts. It's the Ravens vs. the Raiders here to start a new chapter of Baltimore football. It's September 1, 1996 and it's here only on the NFL on NBC!
I remember as a kid anticipating and waiting patiently at 11:59 PM Eastern Time so that at 12:00 PM this theme song would blare loudly on my television. So many memories soo many great football games were played during those years. Soo many great NFL superstars some still here some are dead and gone. Just soo much nostalgia i knew when this song would come on at 12:00 then the 1:00 games that you were going to witness some memorable memorable football games be played.
“This is Charlie Jones along with Randy Cross. It is a very cold afternoon but it is clear, the sun is shining, but it is not shining in the hearts of the Cleveland fans here today Randy.” - Intro to the last home game of the original Browns, December 95
Michigan football national champions this year. Last time Michigan football was national champions this theme was used 1997 season. And elite level seasons in 2021 and 2022 winning Big Ten and beating OSU 2 losses or less and top 4 finishes as well those years, Awesome!! GO BLUE!!! This theme reminds me of it and it is current today as well.
They are both great themes. I would give this one a slight edge, but not by much. 1994 was great theme as well. Though both are much better than the 1992 them and even 1993 theme which were just ok.
As a youngster at the time this theme would give me a raging boner from rapidly elevating my testosterone. It appears that decades later not much has changed. Please bring this back NBC.
Such an inspiring and triumphant tune. Makes you just wanna get off your bed, go outside, and chuck a bit of the old pigskin around with others in the neighborhood. Wish I was alive for this era of football.
This takes me back to 6th grade when John Elway won his first Super Bowl ring after getting beat so badly in his first three attempts. I remember NBC playing this song when they went to break after Elway's iconic helicopter spin and throughout the telecast. After that play, I just knew the Broncos would not be beaten in that game, despite being 14-point underdogs - it always gives me the chills. I wasn't even the biggest Elway fan, but he was the sentimental favorite that year. This music just fit the mood so perfectly and I love how this video incorporates images from XXXII, the last time NBC used this theme.
If that Ravens-Steelers game had aired on Sunday afternoon like it was originally re-scheduled to, NBC would've had a really cheeky sense of humor to break this theme out. Oh well.
This theme would have been perfect for Alabama football how they have been since Saban got there. Alabama went 12-1 only loss to Florida the year this theme debuted in 1994. The other 2 years it was used Alabama was good not great like 8-3 and 10-3 in 1995 and 1996. Then after this theme retired in 1997 Alabama went through a rough stretch from 1997 to 2006 with a lot of coaching turnover and bad seasons followed by some decent ones off and on until they got Saban and became what they have been the best program and a dynasty with 5 national titles the last 13 years.
I think this only sports theme that has a sense of "uplift" and "whimsy"....... So in another words it's the theme played before the game that sounds more like the end of a 90's sports film. I love the theme but it kinda makes sense it didn't last long
Just want to clarify. This was taken from the online streams of early SNF broadcasts. They used a truncated version of the ‘95-‘97 theme on a loop. I, along with a few others, posted the actual theme, which is a little over 2 minutes. The quality of mine isn’t as good as this, because it came from a VHS tape.
Yes I had posted it over 11 years ago when they played it prior to game start times in 2008 SNF broadcasts on the web not on TV. I had recorded it. After 2008 SNF, I never remember them playing it on SNF webcasts. I am not sure if there were webcasts in 2006 and 2007 or if they even used it prior to game start time then. I know from 2009 NFL season to present they did not or at least I never heard it nor opened it at a time then if they did.
@@tigernike23 Thanks. I did not think you did. Just was stating where I got it from and wondering if SNF webcasts played it any other times besides 2008?
ESPN Sucks! They help ruin ABC Sports then they ruin them selfs. ABC College Football was Awesome! Reminds me of 1996 Noter Dame vs Texas 27-24 ND Wins.
