Great footage, and thanks for your insight about the leakage at the end. Bummed to see that, I grew up coming down from NJ to surf those lighthouse groins since the late 80's and was hoping to make another pilgrimage down again soon. Looks like I have to wait on that.
Hello, sir. How about some tips on driving on the sand. I live in the area but haven't been on the sand yet. Kinda scared of the possibility of one of those $1k tow bills, frankly. I have one of those jacked up trucks, laughs, as well as an un-lifted Jeep w/ 33s. Guessing the Jeep is best because it is a 2-door w/ a short wheelbase.
Let the air out of your tires… 15-20psi (pending how soft the sand is) will take any truck anywhere. And if you start to spin tires… DO NOT gas it. Just stop at let more air out. I have never been stuck in my life to need a tow, following that rule of thumb. I wouldn’t go below 10psi though.
It’s sad that NPS/North Carolina doesn’t mind the houses falling into the ocean with the ocean currents taking the debris wherever. They should declare the homes that are directly on the beach as “hazardous” and condemn them. Homes must then be “deconstructed” within a certain period of time (weeks not months or years) to ensure more trashing of our beloved ocean doesn’t happen. Love your channel, Sir Barley!
They are condemned… the NPS hates it and has pitched homes in the past so they could dismantle them. But that’s a LOT of money and so many are at risk, it’s too tall a task to get them all. Plus, You also need the homeowner willing to sell it…. Insurance won’t pay out for the house loss unless nature physically takes it. That’s why more aren’t torn down before they fall down. The system is a mess…
As a beginner, I am not a strong paddler yet, and don't intend to take any tube, but this video helps me to understand the part that I have been done wrong all the time, I try to take off at the critical peak that overturns me. Thank you for explaining this in very details. Thank you so much <3
The hollower the wave the heavier it is relative to its size. Folded over its about the most hollow (heavy) way a wave can break. Can't argue with the blown out but offshore winds on the east coast has been a rarity this fall. Either way I don't get how you could put "not heavy" and "folded over" in the same sentence.
hey brett, greetings from mexico. first of all thanks for your videos which have helped me progress in my surfing a lot more than any other youtube content creator. in case you are thinking about some ideas to make tutorial videos: ive heard a lot of different opinions about dropping from the peak or the shoulder here in zicatela. i think it would be interesting to have a video focusing on choosing where to take off from, and when peak or shoulder are more convenient depending the wave type, since i havent found anyone explaining this -for more intermediate/advanced surfer
Super saddened to hear about the oil mess Brett. Especially since that base used to be such a big presence in the community years ago. (I remember surfing in front of the original lighthouse location & seeing the buildings still functioning.) Love seeing all these spots again & the memories, even though it's heartbreaking to see the beach disappearing. Those thick wedges make me think of Kitty Hawk and the Old Station surf spot (in front of what is now Black Pelican, which was the lifesaving station). Literal washing machine effect from the past vertical sucked out face.
The way that it's folding like that kind of reminds me of skeleton bay. Brett it's amazing to see your kids grow up on your channel and come to love the things that you do and now seeing Mason turn into a grom and shredding along with you. Beautiful thing brother. 🤙
Way to go Brett!!!! Good luck with your movie!!!! You are following your heart, keep after it!!!!! No matter how it turns out, we admire your guts and determination to make something totally rad. I know its going to be fantastic! Thank you for everything you do! God bless you!
Don't worry about the amount of content I'm sure that your movie will more than make up for the lulls on RU-vid come on it's the East Coast we are more than use to lulls lol Anyways Be well my friend and God Bless You and Yours as always 👍
Not the case bro, glad to see you back! Sucks about the Diesel. Hope it gets cleaned up soon. Don’t worry about it. All will work out-nice little barrels you snagged a few!! Whew!!!🏄♂️🌊
