The Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation (NREF) is a not-for-profit 501 (C)(3) organization created in 1980 by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) to support research and education efforts that enhance and confirm the critical role neurosurgeons play in improving lives.
The NREF is dedicated to providing education to neurosurgeons at all stages of their careers, as well as funding research into new and existing neurosurgical treatments, in order to identify links between best practices and improved outcomes in patient care. Through voluntary public donations, corporate support, and donations from allied groups, the NREF supports endeavors that impact the lives of those suffering from epilepsy, stroke, brain tumors, spinal disorders, sports-related head injuries, lower back pain and Parkinson's disease.
To anyone out there going through this…I hope you find the strength to get through it. Start with one step…idk if it’s with massages and stretches or yoga or something…just start with that…fight it. The back may not be the way it was again, but you can definitely fight it….fight ❤️
Wow, after over 2 years of having my neurologists, spine and neuro surgeons say...not sure what causes that...Dr. Woodward really caught my attention when he mentioned Dejerine numbness, onion skin. That is a very accurate description of what I have been dealing with over the past 2 plus years with increasing numbness and dysesthesia. This is a horrible feeling and alarming and frightening to experience. Now, at least I have more accurate way to talk about this. Thank you so much!
surely there must be new and improved ways to cure this? i mean with all the advancements in surgery and medicine, don’t they have anything better than rods? or what about injecting to correct the wedged shapes in the vertebrae? any further research in this field which looks at correcting this without surgery?
My first failed lumbar ant-post fusion of L 4,5 S1 migrated a bone cage into my spinal canal. Revision and Stabilization. My second A& P failed fusion, L 2,3 bone cage migrated into my spinal canal again I tried to make sense of why this could happen 2X and thought Slip Grade was miscalculated. I am now looking at a PSO due to 45-degree deformity and wonder how my past failed fusions could present a problem with sagittal balance to correct kyphosis. Trying to advocate for myself
Do most neurosurgeons require MRIs for a referral or do you do an initial intake and order MRI? I see pros and cons, but if you are trying to build up a new practice, i would think you would take new consultations any way you can. Thanks
Jokes and fun with colleagues 3:58 Steve Glassman Paper - The importance of sagittal alignment. 4:43 Ways of compensating when not sagittally 5:09 Cone of Economy - John Dubousset emphasizes the importance of the pelvis and coined term "pelvic vertebrae" 5:30 Study published in Spine summarizes principles of spinal alignment 5:55 Pelvic Parameters 6:39 Lumbar Lordosis importance - Loss of Lumbar (relatively flat) Lordosis is not tolerated well 6:53 The parameters - Pelvic Incidence, Pelvic Tilt, sacral slope 7:09 Pelvic incidence parameter & how to measure 8:33 Pelvic Incidence & Lordosis 10:22 Example of 64 yr old man who had surgery and was still in alot of pain 11:53 Pelvic Tilt parameter 13:50 Sacral slope 14:19 Studies of every measurement available show that there are 3 measurements that go with higher rates of success - #1 - mismatch between Lumbar lordosis and pelvic incidence 15:30 Alignment Objectives - constantly being evaluated 16:15 Mechanisms of Compensation 17:14 Keys for successful sagittal plane analysis - Long films essential 18:09 Conclusion
Avastin stopped all of my bleeding, you just have to watch blood thickness! We stopped when I was at 17.9 hgl, in the meantime I had leukemia and it stopped that also!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience, knowledge and effort for categorising them in a comprehensive manner with the medical community if not the world.
It seems that i have no alternatives. Im a 29 years old adult so bracing is not working but i also have around 65° so surgery is not for me yet. What can i do. This is truly affecting my self-steem so much since many years ago.
Where are you? I need help. I think my surgeon took my natural lumbar curve out and I have flat back syndrome straight out of a 3 level TLIF in March of 22. I'm progressively getting worse. Need help 🙏

Doctor Henry Marsh is one of the greatest humans. I appreciate his films and books. He is in a class by himself in terms of brilliance and generosity. His work is appreciated in many countries that do not have surgical capability and resources. I love that he has helped develop neurosurgery in Ukraine.
