I find myself more and more clicking on "Do not recommend this channel" when videos use a clickbaity thumbnail and ride the D&D/CR Drama trends. A channel in particular seems to make its money from weekly CR drama reporting, dramas that don't exist anywhere but in their head. They had good informative videos at one point, but now it's only clickbait and made up dramas. I won't miss them.

spell components are generally not consumed unless the descpription says so, if you have a pile of bat poop (guano) you do not need to find more to cast fireball. Spells like snare, which consumes the rope used as a spell component however, you do need more rope after the spell.

Rule 5 is wrong specifically in 5E. Many other comments have cited the RAW statement from 5E which is correct. I think it is worth mentioning in previous editions the ruling was that casters could not cast more than one leveled spell per round because casting magic is exhausting. This is assumed to still be the case in 5E.

Thanx for the concise explanation of Beacon. I saw the announcement by CR but hadn't had the time to figure out what it was really about. I'm not a big fan of the idea of Beacon. I rotate my prime sub to different twitch channels thru the year. Remember cable, when we payed like $80 dollars a month for TV? Didn't we all cut the cord to get away from that.. now with $5 here and $5 there, I'm pretty close to paying as much each month as I did for cable.

Is this a useful tool that can save time and reduce DM pressure for hobbyists? Yeah, 100%. You can go nuts and use other ones to generate images or even songs that fit your world. But I think it's important to give more context than "it can do great stuff". ChatGPT has tons of limitations, especially the free version. It will basically give you a random sample from all human-written scenarios and room descriptions that were scraped from forums, website and published material (meaning you might have found it yourself in original quality with a search engine). It will not enforce coherence within its own stories or even plausibility, as the video demonstrates. It will not strive to be original, quite the opposite actually. The tool is useful, but it helps to understand it better if you use it. Also, there is an ethics question hidden in there. ChatGPT and other AIs (especially free ones) are trained on material they often don't have copyright to. Using this can be at odds with supporting your favourite creators, so you should be aware of it and decide where you stand. I'm disappointed that the channel, as content creators themselves, just recommended free generative AI wholesale and did not mention these issues.

My homebrew has 13 levels of exhaustion. The players are continually rolling against it. Every 6 hours, after combat, after any activity. Each roll has different levels of exhaustion to beat. It is useful for someone in the party who can make vitality potions to reduce exhaustion. Penalties alternate between -1 to no damaging rolls and damaging rolls up to -6 for both at level 12. Along the way speed is gradually reduced. Bonus actions, reactions and extra attacks are lost.

You summed it up quiet easily and I agree. But, what I don't agree on is using this rule more often than once in your campaign. Maybe twice. Your story should not be structured that your players feel the need to skip rests. Sure, once in a while having a cool time pressured story arc in your larger campaign seems cool. But on the average I'd say, exhaustion rules should not be needed.

Here's the thing about "It expects you to have the other books." Yea...almost any campaign or extra book that is sold for use in a campaign says that, there's no reason it would be any different if the intent was to use it in a campaign. No matter what, if you're gonna play DnD it's a really REALLY good idea to have the core 3. Though, you make a really good point about the reference guide. It should have what they all do in the book for easy, well, 'reference'. I have this same product myself, also the alt art, and was really scratching my head when looking for a clear list of what each one does, cause I didn't know myself. Also, if they kept giving related information on the characters and who they're related to every time, there would be so much duplicate information. Cause if one person has relation to 3 other people, then each of those people would also have the information about the first, and you'd have the same information printed 4 separate times in the same book. So yea, big fancy extra prop, but I do love it to pieces as part of my Alt Art collection. Loved the video, and I definitely think, if ya got the extra cash and you want a really REALY cool prop, then I think it's worth it.

I always enjoyed the rules on exhaustion as it is. Albeit I also removed it from being generated from subclasses like the berserker barbarian. I always found it to be a fun way to bring the players to attention when going on long journeys. A gentle reminder at first as they make their first survival checks to hunt for food at disadvantage. If they hit second level I usually bring a combat like wolves attack or something similar to that so the party can eat and recover afterwards. I've never had a player hit 3rd level of exhaustion but I would imagine then that we are playing in a extreme environment game. In the extremely bizarre situation of 5 levels of exhaustion I guess I would possibly offer the players an escape from their terrible fates at a cost of doing something for a entity they would otherwise never assist or as a boon from a players deity/patron. I feel like the rule of -1 per level is really weak for something that is suppose to show wear and tear of the characters journey or conflicts. I know many players that would happily ignore a -3 to any roll. Only ever paying it mind once it starts to reach 4+ and in much higher levels would be annoyed by the trivial and tediousness of it. In base rules disadvantage on ability checks is functionally a -4 on their ability to recover by means of interaction with the world. It doesn't impose much in terms of combat effectiveness meaning players can take the time to recover in most cases i.e. sleep, or forage/hunt for food.

Okay, so, you kinda did apples to oranges, though the added cards are nice, they should not count towards this, the other two had no way to make those added cards as they were made for props before the book came out, so they had no ideas for what they could do, and adding cards to the deck of many things at random may scare off more players. so that is really unfair to hold the others to. the added cards are nice, but again, hold the cards to their value compared to the other two. also, you did not put the links in like you said you would.

I think the 5 and 10 point systems are trying to cover two different concepts. The 10 point system is focused on general fatigue. The 5 point system is for attrition like severe starvation, dehydration, exposure, and disease. One needs rest the other should be treated.

I've never understood why people have difficulty with this rule. It's never been a problem at any table I've ever played at or run, and I've been running it for 7 years. Also, when you say "most tables" where are you getting that data? It's not very hard to remember, and it simulates being not just tired, but exhausted pretty well. I'm actually planning to add the -1 to dc's, but otherwise keep the rules unchanged. I feel like the 6E rules are kind of nothing sauce, and just too many degrees with not enough change between them. And it's even more to track than just a condition. But I guess it's a ymmv situation.

AI makes outlining things very easy. I like togo with a prompt like "Lets use this concept and summary for a DnD 5e adventure. The main enemies will be (x). this is the concept (x) and adventure summary (x). We are designing this with the goal of being a 5-room dungeon for a party of (x) at (x) level. The room format we are looking for is (x), and it is set in (x). Please generate a list of encounters that can fit in these themes." Then you get the list, and select the ones that fit best from there. Once the basic outline for the dungeon has been completed, I write the basic room descriptions and detail the planned encounters write out the goals, enemies, and exits. Hand that off to the AI, and you have the quick version that you wrote, and if your players want more detail you have that ready to go too. It's really good for populating towns and villages with NPCs too. "This is a medieval village for DnD 5e, set in (x). Please create a list of important NPCs, their basic descriptions, locations, and disposition."

With my rolls, even one level is debilitating. Disadvantage? Well might as well have me sit out of the game. I'm never going to roll high enough for the cool things or even hit things. So this new system seems better for my luck, even if I think it's too weak. I like the current rules, just wish there was a few more ways to remove levels.

I think that while a smart party can avoid Exhaustion when it's a -X method, it would actually be really useful to have more ways of gaining Exhaustion than just failing to prepare, neglecting rest, or walking faster than normal. What if you could take Exhaustion... ...instead of Death Save Failures? ...to deal more damage? ...to use a stronger spell? ...to use an exhausted feature? ...to do more? Personally, I kinda like using Exhaustion to prevent Death Save Failures, or when Players go down, since then they aren't as keen to do the "healing whack-a-mole" trick, but if they do go down, they can still fight for their lives, and an Enemy can hit them once to "confirm" a kill, without it feeling unfair for the Players (as it's mostly a couple more debuff stacks when you get up).

I just started running "Call of The Netherdeep" last week. I will be using the new exhaustion mechanics for that campaign, at least. For peeps not in the know, Call of The Netherdeep leans heavily on exhaustion in the story. Since half my table are new DnD players, I do not want to punish them too hard, as they are still learning how to play. To make things easier on everyone, including me, I will use the new mechanics. Should make everything smoother. Also, I will homebrew it that if you rest for a full 24 hours, instead of just the 8 for a long rest, I will remove 2 points of exhaustion. The players can balance out if they have enough time to rest that long or not.

I've been using chatgpt for several months I have to do I lot of retuning to what it gives me and will often have to give it the story all over again so it can give me the right information, depending on it for names is not a great idea as it will just recycle the same sir name with a different first name and vice versa and will give names to elves like stronghammer so it doesn't really know what it is doing but can give you good ideas to start with but you will need to fix almost everything at some point. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 but at least it can get you started if you just want something quick to start.

I'm curious what makes you think these are The "7 Most Forgotten Rules," as you claim. Most of them are pretty well known rules within the community, from my experience. There are certainly many other videos from more popular channels that state several of these rules are interpreted incorrectly, but not outright forgotten. Also, you (sort of) misinterpreted #4. Creatures are on the list of things that Can grant cover. In order to do so, the target must be on the exact opposite side of the 'cover' from whatever is firing. A single step to either side usually makes this a non-issue. The 'cover' must also actually block line of sight to at least half of the target's body, meaning anything sizes large or bigger isn't getting cover from a medium creatures, friend or foe, and if your ally is small sized then they're likely not granting cover to anyone. Also; Most DMs ignore this rule because, despite what some people imagine, players aren't actually standing dead still when it's not their turn. So long as it doesn't count as an action, 'flavor' movements are allowed, even outside of your turn. Ducking or side stepping within your 5-foot square, to give an ally a clear shot by exposing more than half of the enemy's body, is allowed within the rules. You just need to communicate to let the ally know you're doing this, but talking also doesn't require an action.
@XaqeryHaqer
@XaqeryHaqer 4 дня назад
RAW is that if you cast a bonus action spell, you cannot use a spell that is not a cantrip. It does not limit the amount of spell slots you can use, only that a bonus action spell limits your ability to use spell slots. This means if you somehow have the oppurtunity to cast a spell on your action, so long as you did not cast a bonus action speed spell, you can cast 2 spells using spell slots in a turn.

I run "courses" of D&D for kids on behalf of a local community group. Each course is seven 2-hour sessions: a Session Zero, plus six game nights. I've started using AI to plan the course. I'll feed it a basic outline like, "I need to plan for six two-hour RPG sessions. They are in an arctic environment. I want it in the style of the 5-room dungeon. I want to include a young white dragon, and end in the lair of a demon. Can you give me a suggestion?" The AI then gives me an outline listing each "room", as well as the projected events of each session. I can then take those notes as inspiration and flesh it out as the players progress through the story. It is great when you are having writer's block and just need some inspiration to flesh things out.

My chart went: 1: Cannot gain advantage 2: -5 ft speed 3: Disadvantage on Ability rolls 4: -10 ft speed 5: Disadvantage on Attack rolls and creatures you impose ability checks against have advantage on thsoe ability checks. 6: Speed becomes 5 7: Prone 8: Unconsious 9: Dead Additionally when you drop to 0 hit points, you gain a level of exhaustion, and you regain all levels of exhaustion on a long rest provided you eat an drink and whatnot (because having to wait a week isn't fun).

I'm not the biggest fan of the 10 levels. Like, what if the players are really good at prepping, so at most, they only get to -3? That's nothing. I personally propose keeping the 6 levels of old, but make them -2s at a time. So 1 level is -2 and 5 levels is -10. Then 6 is death. Still easy to remember and players actually notice. Plus, it won't take them a week and a half to go from near death to fine. Just a week. Then, if you wanted to make it affect movement, just have every level also give a -5 to movement per level. so level 3 would be a -6 to d20s and a -15 to movement. Most races have 30ft of movement anyway, so most of the time, instead of actually hitting 0 movement, they just die.

@@isaacagar8681 Your players are engaging with the existing exhaustion rules as they are and playing smartly to avoid being harmed by them. Exhaustion is already meaningfully affecting their actions. @isaacagar8681 3 дня назад
@@burgernthemomrailer I think you are missing my point. My players *are not* being meaningfully affected by exhaustion. They tend to only be holding 1 or 2 levels of exhaustion at a time, and giving them a -1 or -2 doesn't mean much past certain levels. So I did the same thing I would with encounters. If you find an enemy did its job well against the party, but they walk away with next to no damage taken, you either increase its to hit mod or its damage. as someone who had to DM for a berserker barbarian the biggest problem was the one long rest = one less exhaustion because every day barbarian raged more then once a day leaving him constantly at a negative. so i just rule that exhaustion has 3 stages (-5 on rolls and saves, half movement speed, and pass out) then force a long rest
@Lurklen
@Lurklen 3 дня назад
Our homebrew rule for berserkers was that exhaustion doesn't affect them while raging. So the effects are suspended while they rage, but if they frenzy they incur another level. We also changed up some of the berserker abilities and made it so the turn you rage you can do a frenzy attack with the same bonus action, and we gave the psychic resistance as a sort of counterbalance to the Bear totem. I played a Berserker to level 14 or 15 in a long running campaign and I found the rules pretty great. (You can rage without frenzy, and not take exhaustion, but you kind of want to go full out.)

Well, you are right in the sense that there's a line beyond which the AI is playing the game instead of the GM, but a GM has so many other things to do, right? Also, your job becomes editing and filtering what the AI is providing, maybe mixing and matching. An AI can be asked to elaborate certain aspects of their response, too. Some GMs just aren't good with words. I don't care either way as a player, as long as the thing is captivating. I just want a good world that I can be part of. The GM came up with the world, the AI just added color and detail to it. The GM then tweaked the colors and details, maybe rewrote some of it, all to enhance my (the player's) experience. I think it's a good tool, just like battlemaps are. Helps the game if used properly

We always use that rule.” The play group I’m in uses every single rule mentioned in this video. We also track encumbrance and how much weight each character carries. Did you know that that in DnD 50 gold pieces equals one pound? Same with silver pieces and copper pieces, 50 coins equal one pound. So is you have 5,000 gp then technically you’re carrying 100 pounds in just coins. Here is another a Bag of Holding can ONLY hold 500 pound? If you put more than that inside it, the bag pops and all your stuff gets scattered across the Astral Plane. All your stuff in that bag is gone.
