5 is only true if you cast a spell as an action and bonus action. RAW you can action surge and cast 2 spells as an action.

You can even cast three spells if you use your reaction. 1 - You provoke an Attack of Opotunity against you 2 - Reaction Shield 3 - Second Spell 4 - Acrion Surge 5 - Third Spell

Came to the comments to say exactly this! It really annoys me when "Rules videos" get rules wrong . _.

Indeed. Especially a rules video should not get this wrong.

@@FelipeTadeu1000 If you're REALLY tricksy and happen upon the right circumstance, you can actually cast as many as 5 spells on your turn, as long as none of them are bonus action spells.

Tracking ordinary arrows is tedious and boring. After combat they can be gathered, more can be made, and I believe 20 can be purchased for a gold piece. When it comes to spell casters, they should all start with either an arcane focus or component pouch, so for any components without gold cost, don't worry about. It's the gold cost components that need to be enforced to have some sort of balance for casters.

I'm always curious when people say "tracking ammo is tedious and boring" or "tracking spell components is tedious and boring" - where do you draw the line? Why is tracking spell components tedious and boring, but tracking spell slots NOT tedious and boring? Why is tracking ammo too dull, but tracking currency okay? For that matter, why bother keeping track of hit points? The game is full of things that need to be tracked. Ammo is just one of many.

@@OisinDebard for me, it's about balance. It's not going to un-balance my game if no one has to track ordinary arrows. Same thing with spell components without a gold cost, RAW an arcane focus substitutes for those anyway. But it depends on the game you run too. If you want grittier, higher stakes, then yeah, track arrows and make them rare, expensive and/or hard to make.

@@OisinDebard hell you dont even need to track hp lol. I know for sure there are dms out there who would not track the hp of a monster and instead imagine what is happening to them and wait for every player to do something, at least that's what i would occasionally do if i was playing with some very young players
@OisinDebard

@@mallusaih So you'd be okay with a player not tracking hp then?

spell components are generally not consumed unless the descpription says so, if you have a pile of bat poop (guano) you do not need to find more to cast fireball. Spells like snare, which consumes the rope used as a spell component however, you do need more rope after the spell.

RAW is that if you cast a bonus action spell, you cannot use a spell that is not a cantrip. It does not limit the amount of spell slots you can use, only that a bonus action spell limits your ability to use spell slots. This means if you somehow have the oppurtunity to cast a spell on your action, so long as you did not cast a bonus action speed spell, you can cast 2 spells using spell slots in a turn.

First I want to say that I hope you continue to hone your craft and I wish you the best because you seem like a nice person. That said, it's kinda funny that for Number 5 you actually portrayed the real common misconception, which is that you CAN'T cast more than one Leveled Spell on a turn. The hard rule comes down to that if you use or are going to use your Bonus Action to cast a Spell, then you can't cast another Leveled Spell during that turn (more specifically that you CAN only cast a Cantrip with a casting time of 1 Action) So as long as you don't cast using your Bonus Action, and you find another method of casting along with your typical Action, you're good to go! (Pretty much always Action Surge) It's a kooky wording, for sure, but just thought to mention to prevent misinformation if your channel blows up :)

It's me, I was the DM who let my players take two long rests per day 😅 They wanted to, and looking at my timetable, I was like uhhhhhhh sure. But one of them has to involve actual sleeping, while the other can just be lounging around camp. It was a multi-layer dungeon, so time was really arbitrary.

I always chuckle to myself when I see X rules everyone forgets about or gets wrong. 95% of the time I’m like “Yep we do that. We also do that one. We always use that rule.” The play group I’m in uses every single rule mentioned in this video. We also track encumbrance and how much weight each character carries. Did you know that that in DnD 50 gold pieces equals one pound? Same with silver pieces and copper pieces, 50 coins equal one pound. So is you have 5,000 gp then technically you’re carrying 100 pounds in just coins. Here is another a Bag of Holding can ONLY hold 500 pound? If you put more than that inside it, the bag pops and all your stuff gets scattered across the Astral Plane. All your stuff in that bag is gone.

7. Long rest - Chapter 8, under "Long Rest": A character can't benefit from more than one long rest in a 24-hour period, and a character must have at least 1 hit point at the start of the rest to gain its benefits. 6. "using" equipment - Page 146. At the end of the battle, you can recover half your expended ammunition by taking a minute to search the battlefield. It should be noted that he included spell components in this as well. That's not entirely true. Spell components are only expended if the spell says they are. For example, the components of Fireball are a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur. While it would seem like you would consume this on your cast of fireball, per RAW it doesn't. Chapter 10: Spellcasting, under Material components: If a spell states that a material component is consumed by the spell, the caster must provide this component for each casting of the spell. 5. Only one spell a turn. - There's no page citation for this, it's not actually a rule. There is no general rule restricting the number of spells you can cast a turn. Most wizards can cast 2 a turn, a few can cast 3, and under the right circumstances, a clever wizard can cast as many as 5. You are only limited by the action economy. This is a misunderstanding of the bonus action rule, which says IF (and only if) you cast a spell using a bonus action, you can only cast a cantrip with the casting time of one action for the other spells on your turn. A lot of people interpret that as saying you can cast a leveled spell and a cantrip. It doesn't, for a couple of reasons. First and most obviously, it only applies if you cast a spell using a bonus action. This is likely where the confusion comes from, because people think you only have an action and a bonus action on your turn. But that's neglecting reactions and other ways to gain actions, like magic items and action surge. Second, if you cast a cantrip as a bonus action, you don't get to cast a leveled spell as your action spell. You're still limited to only a cantrip with a casting time of one action. 4. Creatures provide half cover - Chapter 9, Combat, under "half cover": A target with half cover has a +2 bonus to AC and Dexterity saving throws. A target has half cover if an obstacle blocks at least half of its body. The obstacle might be a low wall, a large piece of furniture, a narrow tree trunk, or a creature, whether that creature is an enemy or a friend. 3. Invisibility - This is a controversial one, and a perfect place for a "he's out of line, but he's right" meme. The invisible condition says "An invisible creature is impossible to see without the aid of magic or a special sense. For the purpose of hiding, the creature is heavily obscured. The creature's location can be detected by any noise it makes or any tracks it leaves. Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature's attack rolls have advantage." Heavily obscured means A creature effectively suffers from the blinded condition when trying to see something in that area. So, invisible means they can't be seen, but can be heard, smelt, felt, or sensed in other ways, and other aspects of their passing, like footprints in snow for example, can still be seen. It should be noted though, that heavily obscured allows you to hide, which negates many of these factors. 2 - Damage while unconscious - This isn't exactly accurate either. There's nothing in the unconscious condition that says you make death saves when you take damage. What he's thinking of is taking damage at 0 hit points. In Chapter 9, Combat, under Death Saving throws, it says: "Damage at 0 Hit Points. If you take any damage while you have 0 hit points, you suffer a death saving throw failure." Granted, If damage reduces you to 0 hit points and fails to kill you, you fall unconscious, but you also can be unconscious from a variety of other ways, not the least of which every night when you go to sleep. 1. Ranged attack next to an enemy - This one's spot on, and a lot of people do forget it. Chapter 9, combat, under "Ranged Attacks" says: Aiming a ranged attack is more difficult when a foe is next to you. When you make a ranged attack with a weapon, a spell, or some other means, you have disadvantage on the attack roll if you are within 5 feet of a hostile creature who can see you and who isn’t incapacitated. Nothing more to add here, really.

Rule 5 is wrong specifically in 5E. Many other comments have cited the RAW statement from 5E which is correct. I think it is worth mentioning in previous editions the ruling was that casters could not cast more than one leveled spell per round because casting magic is exhausting. This is assumed to still be the case in 5E.

An addition for #2 any attack that hits an unconscious character is critical hit if the attacker is whithin 5ft. Which basically means that a melee attack is going to cause 2 failed death saves right away.

Easy fix for 7 is long travel periods. 6 isn't great for new adventurers, if the party is full of seasoned players it would be a better place to enforce the rule. 5 RIP Bladesingers. 4 same as 5. 3 Okay yea that one is fair. 2 This one is fairly remembered in my plays don't know why it's here at 2 even. 1 is the same as 2.

I'm curious what makes you think these are The "7 Most Forgotten Rules," as you claim. Most of them are pretty well known rules within the community, from my experience. There are certainly many other videos from more popular channels that state several of these rules are interpreted incorrectly, but not outright forgotten. Also, you (sort of) misinterpreted #4. Creatures are on the list of things that Can grant cover. In order to do so, the target must be on the exact opposite side of the 'cover' from whatever is firing. A single step to either side usually makes this a non-issue. The 'cover' must also actually block line of sight to at least half of the target's body, meaning anything sizes large or bigger isn't getting cover from a medium creatures, friend or foe, and if your ally is small sized then they're likely not granting cover to anyone. Also; Most DMs ignore this rule because, despite what some people imagine, players aren't actually standing dead still when it's not their turn. So long as it doesn't count as an action, 'flavor' movements are allowed, even outside of your turn. Ducking or side stepping within your 5-foot square, to give an ally a clear shot by exposing more than half of the enemy's body, is allowed within the rules. You just need to communicate to let the ally know you're doing this, but talking also doesn't require an action.
