My name is Christian, I picked up running in 2018 as I took on the NYRR 60k Ultra. There are quite a few races coming up on my channel, but the next goal race will be the New York City Marathon.
Living in NY, we have a mixture of mountain running and running through a big city. After the pandemic in 2020, I was missing some of the motivation to run as in person racing came to a sudden halt. In order to get the spark back, I've started to document my training, racing, and sharing a lot of my thoughts on running gear along the way. It's kept me happy and running, so let's keep it going. Just ordered a white Epix 2 and was looking at these exact straps on Amazon. Very helpful to see on video, thanks Christian. In case it's helpful for anyone looking on Amazon in Europe, I believe the brand YOOSIDE is the same thing as the Abanen in the US.
Reach out to GoreWear themselves. They say their membranes don’t deteriorate that fast so I’s see if Nike or Gore will help you out. www.gorewear.com/us/en-us/faqs#
I thought the point of garmin was navigation. Nobody should compare garmin to apple. They're on completely different fields. I have a Fenix 5x and a tactix delta. I'm not into fitness. I use the watches to mark way points and track my rides or adventures. The "fitness tracking" is just an added feature that I take with a grain of salt. I'm on the fence between the Fenix 7 and the epix. Battery life is important because I don't like to take it off and charge it frequently, not because I'm taking 4 day hikes. Not sure about the screen in bright light. I work outside all day every day and I don't know if the epix will be good. I'm drawn to the fancy display but it's important to me to be able to glance at the watch and see the time or a notification without dropping what's in my hands to do so, otherwise why have a watch.. I can drop everything and reach for my phone. Not everything is cut and dry. To be honest, this wasn't a very good review and had almost no useful information. Really showed nothing unique to the watch and only things that apply to garmin in general, while comparing garmin to apple. If you reply to this comment, I won't see it. Not trying to offend anyone, just sharing my opinion since I gave you my time to watch this video. You're welcome.
Garmin has navigation but it definitely is not most people’s go to use case. Also I’d argue you’re into fitness in the sense of what Garmin is for getting out on adventures. To me, yea Apple is a smart watch and Garmin makes durable outdoor gear, in the form of tech, still with more of a focus on getting outdoors and making fitness stats look meaningful.
Garmin has the worst and most user unfriendly software I have ever seen in any of the smartwatches I used in the market. It is confusing and often does not work at all. I have a garmin epix (gen 2), carbon gray dlc titanium with black band, premium active and I will send it back for a refund. It will not find my Telstra WiFi 5G broadband connection my other WiFi items including other brands find with ease. Garmin, this is a useless piece of product that is not only overpriced but also user unfriendly. Do not purchase such an outdated unsmart-watch.
Toss out a brand you recommend? Curious what you like. I’ve had no issues with 3 Garmin’s now. It’s been my personal favorite by a lot, but nobody needs to agree with me.
Hi Christian. I am signed up to run Breakneck next week and OMG your videos of the race and recap were so helpful! Course preview, comments and tips are awesome! Thank you !
You doing the half or full? It’s honestly a fantastic little race, well put together and lots of fun all day. I love it, skipping this year but will be back for sure.
I went from Apple Watch Ultra to this watch, and I absolutely love it. I don’t run but primarily strength training and walks. Because I have a thyroid disease. Love the body battery en hrv tracking to keep track of my health and energy levels
I'm wondering if I got the creme color if the shoe would get dirty due to mud? Theres always mud on the trail and anyway, I dont want an all black shoe. SO does the water proof design help with dirt? And or does the water proof design clean easy?
Running it this year and just saw your 2022 half video and u mentioned you got dropped off near prospect park, will be driving in from CT and was wonder how the parking is? Anywhere you would recommend parking near the start…
Parking is going to be a definite no-go. It's hard enough to park in NYC without a race, but with closures and the additional crowds, I would not rely on parking near the start, unless you have a paid lot in mind.
I've always been able to fit into a normal width shoe, so I don't want to recommend something that may work for a truly wide foot. I'd recommend checking out this page from BITR: believeintherun.com/shoe-reviews/best-wide-foot-running-shoes/
If I was able to get onto the trails daily I’d be fine using it all the time for sure. Just enough cushion but super high or low stack for more specialized days.
I ran that this year too. I kept hoping for more rain as it didn't start till I hit the last mile. Then, once I finished, I wanted the rain to stop as I just wanted to enjoy the after party a little bit.
Glad to see you back, and great to hear you’re in the Half. NYC was my first marathon this year and I also made the mistake of pushing through the pain, so now I’m taking it real easy until Spring. Good thing for me I didn’t get picked for the Half, I don’t think I’d be ready for it!
Nice to hear from you. I was hoping you were recovering. Looking forward to you progress and train for New York half. I started training for Boston so I will be tuning in for your experience and good advice.
Hey man! I’m new to your channel, nice to see a runner from the Hudson Valley. NYC 2023 was my first marathon and I hit a solid brick wall at mile 22 but was able to walk/limp to the finish. I was weak from ignoring other training and only focusing on running so for the next go around it is my goal to be a more well-rounded participant. I’m putting in strength training and cross fit into my routine.
Having recently acquired same product,as well as the cloth insert that both insulates and soaks up sweat. The issue of it not being long enough to heat the upper part of your body , I use mine with my arms outside the bag ( I like reading) and my entire head and arms get soaking with sweat without being inside! Great product, I wish I knew sooner!
Oh man, what a wait! In all seriousness, awesome! I put my name in the lottery and am hoping to come back from injuries and give it a shot myself in 2024.
Hi, i have a question, I’m interested in the 9+1 program. If for example I complete a race on November or December 2023 will count for the program to run on the marathon on 2025? Or I have to complete all the 9+1 only on 2024 to run the 2025 marathon? Thanks I hope you can help.
Great video! I just just ordered these after owning the standard version. Your trails look amazing! Looks like the Gunks. I’m curious where you filmed this?
fabulous video. I did it this year coming from Australia and watching your video helped me re-orientate where everything was. I was aiming for 4 hours too and was briefly devastating crossing at 4:02 but nothing short of amazing this race. I can't believe you managed to get through with the problem you had! As my coach always said ' haven't come this far to only come this far'. Well done. Hope you get your redemption at some point.
