I'll also provide my honest review of products I use so you know what's worth trying and what to avoid.
I installed the zanella digital cluster on my 24 hawk x and everything works great except for the tachometer… reads accurate when idling but barely any throttle and it reads all the way up to 10k rpm and it’s obviously only revving to like 3k 😂 any ideas on what my issue is?
That's wild, i cant believe they gear the hawk so low. I got the bsr Raven, its stock is 17/46. Good video btw 😁👍 upgrading mine to 17/42 since I do primarily back road and gravel. Very excited to be able to run at 55 without all the vibration of pinning it at 6500rpm 😅
I love it for what I paid, I mean it's not my DRZ400 but I didn't buy to be that. I didn't get to ride much last year but I'm waiting on a new battery to fire her up for this season.
would like to meet you sometime i have a hawk dlx i live in milan,nh just above berlin dont know what part of nh you live but maybe your not too far from berlin,nh
Don’t Skip Checking The Piston Downstroke I Think Mine Wasn’t Up When I Lined Up To The T And It Wouldn’t Start 😂 Once I Made Sure The Piston Was Up I Adjusted The Valves Now It Starts With One Kick 👌
Sounds stupid, I know, but I LOVE the color choices on thes RPS Hawk: Honda Red, "Yomama" Blue, and Kawi Green! Wish the DLX came in those colors and white. I agree with you, MotoCheez, and many others that these bikes are a great value in many ways, especially since pioneers like you have demystified them and their idiosyncrasies for U.S. Bought a Honda XR150L last year for my daughter's b-day and paid more than double for what isva made in China, assembled in Mexico Honda that is likely a very close cousin of the Hawk. Thanks again for shining a light on this bike, for sharing it with U.S., and for your graciousness in sharing your spotlight with MotoCheez. You two have earned a prominent spot at the entrance to the China Bikes' Hall of Fame!
Thanks so much for the kind words, I like the colors too. I picked red because I didnt' see as many red ones at the time but now that it's seen some sun it's fading to more of a pink. HAHA - I'm trying to get settled to where I can make some new content so maybe I'll do one and see if I can refresh the plastic.
Engine sounds are super hard to diagnose without being there. Sounds like maybe just a ticking valve train. If you checked your valve lash and it's in spec then hard to say exactly but I like to start with decent oil and when you change the old check for excessive metal shavings or chunks.
I was just refreshing myself on this to do my hawk's valves and I felt like I was listening to Dr. Ian Malcom teach me. You sound so much like him imo lol
It's partly due to the dissimilar materials where I put in the gel. If I was reshaping just the foam I would spend more time shaping it. Can't notice it with the gel - so far so good.
Do you mean rejet? It depends on your setup, can take a little trial and error but generally these bikes come from the factory lean so going up a size on the main jet is a good start.
Thanks for doing this video, sounds like you have the correct specs. I've seen some videos where they're saying adjust to as much as 004 on the intake and .005 on the exhauast. Sorry I listened to them, now I have to readjust the right specs. Tapping got real loud, and bike was even backfiring. Strange thing, my manual doesn't show valve clearance.
No I don't believe the manual that comes with the hawk lists the specs if I recall correctly. The TT250 manual is a great reference, same engine except I believe the TT250 is counter balanced.
@@skydcontrol Thx for your reply! Major OPERATOR ERROR on my part, I ended up adjusting to .04 & .05 instead of .004 & .005. No wonder she wasn't burning the fuel. I ended up speaking with the US importer & distributor of all these bikes, and he told me his mechanic adjusts the valves to .007 & .009. Adjusted mine to .006 & .008 and she's running absolutely perfect! I don't believe any adjustment was needed to begin with, but it is good to know how to do this.
@@tomstrizak1117 don't feel too bad, it's a common mistake - haha. Ya some people like to run thier valves a little looser (a tappy valve is a happy valve). Just be aware it does accelerate valve train wear. Glad it's running good now though
Hey Thanks for watching. Ya I think so, might be a tad tall for you but no worse than any other dual sport. I actually feel this bike is made more for shorter riders than tall ones.
so i pulled everything off to install and the plug ins are in use and im so confused every video i have watched its suppose to not be in use and now i dont know what to do and suggestions?
It's been a hot minute since I did this install but are you talking about the extra wires for tach and gear selection? Did your original speedo have those in them already? If so that might be why, might be worth just hooking up the new speedo and see what works and what doesn't.
Hey amazing solid video man! I have 2 RPS hawk 250 enduros that probably have 300 miles on them each or less but I had no idea I had to adjust the valves before riding them. I bought all three of those things in your links and am going to adjust the valves before riding again because I fear I may be causing damage to them. My bike's engine gets extremely hot and the muffler gets red hot and I know that's not right. Anyways, thank you so much for providing actual correct information that I can use! I appreciate the video!
Thanks for the kind words! Valve adjustment is important for sure and many people don't know about it. Thats' where these china bikes fall short alot is in the assembly so they usually aren't properly adjusted. Good luck!
I didn't hear that you lived in NH until the second time I listened. OMG, I lived there for a 1 1/2 years in Portsmouth, Pease AFB. How do you stand it? Love mine too.
Oh nice, I'm familiar with Pease they still do the airshows there. I'm further north. How do I stand what? Living here? haha - I love it here except for the cold in the winter.
@@skydcontrolThat, the cold winters. I was a Texas boy, my father was in the Air Force and we moved up there for a year and a half. Beautiful place, but the main thing I remember was sitting over the heater vent hoping it would come on in the morning. I was 9 or 10 and snow up to my, well you know what I men. Have meant to go back up there and see it in the fall but things don't work out the way you plan. But I'd be gone before that first snowflake hit the ground. LOL
I appreciate the video man. I’ve got a 2020 Orion rxb with the zongshen engine. It’s got spark compression and is getting gas, Is it possible it needs the valves adjusted to start.
hey there, I didn't have this issue although mine does read empty far earlier than it should. I don't know that there's any calibration in the speedo unit however I do know that the sensor in the tank is often set wrong. It doesn't bother me enough to pull the gas tank off and risk the gasket for the sending unit leaking though
@@skydcontrol I have a new RPS Hawk X 250 and my analog speedo and gas gauge are - as you said, comically off. There's no tach and I really have no idea how fast I'm going or how much gas I have smh. Not a deal killer but, like, really? And I think you're right - its more than likely the sensor in the gas tank.
My valve adjustment experience has taught me to keep the feeling gage in the valve tappet while snugging down the lock nut. Great video and helpful for others. Thought I'd share a help too.
I get this question enough to wonder if I'm being trolled at this point? LOL - they're not on backwards. It's a combo of the type of bars, the fact I have them rolled forward a few degrees cause I'm tall, and the gopro camera angle.
Just a little help I did the valve adjustment and the bike runs smooth. But now my top speed has lower was 70 now 63-65. Its like I loss top end power and before my valves had no clearance.
Hmm, that's odd. Shouldn't really make a difference in top speed. Although if you fiddled with the carb at all while the valves were tight, it might need to be readjusted now.
Hey bro I live in New Hampshire too. How can I find out about where all the dirt bike trails, power lines, train tracks, sand pits , etc are that we can ride? .. great video btw
Unfortunately the legal places to ride are few and far between in certain parts of the state. Power lines are usually off limits because they're private property, though some people allow it. I usually look for Rail trails and Class VI roads. Good luck!
Don't plan on riding it if you've had a little shot of rain. Because you won't have any spark. So far I've got 90 miles on mine. Had to replace the solenoid before mile 30. The Chinese can copy everything but quality. It is always stored inside.
I just my plug out and adjusted the valve lashes and put everything back together and now my bike won't fire. Is there something I can do to get it back to starting?
@@skydcontrol Just poking some fun man. Thanks for the honest review. My friend is actually thinking about getting one and this definitely helped in finding out about the integrity of the bike. Keep them coming, no matter how many "uuuhhh's" there are.
