I use them a lot in the videos but am definitely a bit more focused with how I use them in my regular musical recordings. Generally speaking, I find lo-fi effects to work really well on pads/synths in general. The movement and texture they provide in that context can lend either an "aged" feeling to a track and it can make things "feel warmer" somehow. I also use that compressed, wiggly vibrato sound for leads for the same reason and because it helps to make lines jump straight out at someone. Hope this makes sense and happy to elaborate if you'd like me to.
@@PedalFriends thanks! I'll try playing with them. I'm not usually a big fan of vibrato, but your mix certainly sounded good. It didn't sound pitchy the way vibrato can sometimes. And elaborate as much as you please. Always looking for tips on effects.
@@159awi I'd say the key is to figure out where you might WANT a bit of sway. If you want the whole track to have a kind of seasick feel, use it on pads toward the edge of a mix and you'll start feeling it. If you just want an interesting texture to stand out at some point, use it right up the middle on just ONE thing (guitar lead, synth melody, whatever). I tend toward using slower, not as deep sways to avoid too heavy of a swaying feeling but you can go the opposite and do EXTREME speed with little depth to get a really interesting effect that sounds fun in a mix.
Does Anyone know if there are any videos out there with the uptate "hack" thing? 🤷♂️ i want to hear how the distortion pedals sound like but every video i find with the extra stuff are hooked up to synthesizer and drum machines
Liking this! Cool effects. I use a GP10 and a Godin Freeway synth but I can't capture old keyboard organ sounds. Your explanation and demo rocks! Keep on rockin'.. and PEACE in Jesus. No Jesus Christ? No peace!
Aarh you got the 50G instead of the 70CDR. Guess that answered my question to the other vid 😋 Oh, and why btw? Did the other one break even further or? 😅
Didn't break it further, just wanted a more consistent footswitch for live use when switching between the tuner and the regular function of the pedal. I think I sold my 70CDR to a buddy for not much so they could enjoy it. Always good to pass along a friend to a friend <3
Happy to hear you like em! They are all images from the NYPL Digital Collections. There are some absolutely wonderful, free-to-use images and I used them for basically all of these videos. A great source of cool and inspirational images for sure: digitalcollections.nypl.org
i am sort of in the MultiStomp MS 70_CDR planning stages. i want to leave my pedal board as is....so i am panning on a small, separate, pedal-board: with the MS, and a splitter box to bust out my dry. ( maybe a looper too ) i think that's good, because i don't know how i am going to use it just yet, ( and the best thing about that is, i can set it up where i can easily edit my patches when i need too )
I regret to tell you I have no idea. I've only played the G1X0n and those ones are the same from what my ears and eyes can tell. Maybe someone else will hop in here and let you know.
Answering here just to make sure folx can see it here too: I can't report on the technical accuracy of the tuner but it works well enough for me with my band; guitar sounds in tune as compared to the other guitarist and my keyboards.
Hello! I use this as the primary tuner for my guitar in my band. I have no idea the technical accuracy of it but it tunes well enough that I don't feel out of tune with the other guitarist in my band or my own keyboards.
I recently fell asleep while RU-vid was playing videos. After I awoke, I heard this video, and I was really digging what I heard, completely having forgotten to what it was that I had fallen asleep. tl;dr: this still sounds awesome, in 2023!
Thanks so much for the kind words! It's been ages since I've watched this one so I'll throw it on later to see how it hits me these days. Hope all is well, my friend.
Bro it's absolutely amazing! 🔥 I could really use something like that. Have You uploaded it to patchstorage? Can i get this patch? Keep up the good work 👏
Thanks for the kind words! I've not uploaded this to patch storage because I always forget to do that and because this didn't feel refined/streamlined enough to warrant being posted. I can try to remember to do so but ultimately I will probably forget so feel free to copy the steps in the video and upload it yourself if you'd like =)
Hello! I’m not totally sure what you’re asking but I’ll do my best. I made this demo before I knew you could add effects onto the MultiStomp from other versions so I actually don’t have the overdrive/distortion effects from the MS-50G on this device in this demo. If you’re wondering about how to create pseudo-overdrive/distortion sounds from this pedal without “hacking” in the effects from other devices, I’d suggest using the Drive Echo with a really short delay time and higher mix. You can do a similar thing with the Lo-Fi Delay/Reverb or even using the Bit Crusher or Ring Mod. Won’t be perfect approximations of OD/Distortion sounds but it’ll be interesting for sure. Hope this answers your question.
what were u doing with the pitchfork? shifting the out signal? (i ask because i like to 'play' a pitch shifter by putting it after a drone source but before dirt/feedback)
Hey! Sorry for the delayed response; this one got by me. But yup, you nailed it: Pitch Fork is making the drone in your left ear and I’m shifting things up and down to create the different sections.
Hey! Not sure I understand the question; the Line Selector is an effect listed in the MultiStomp. If yours for some reason doesn't have one, you may want to use the Zoom software to add it back on there. If you want a comparable pedal, I believe it's based on the Boss LS-2. Hope this helps.
@@dotsunmoon OH the external bypass pedal is just a standard Saturnworks build: saturnworkspedals.com/product/true-bypass-looper/ I had them leave it blank so I could add my own little piece of art to it.
@@dotsunmoon in this context, a "looper" doesn't mean looping SOUND, it more means "creating a closed loop of signal" AKA whatever is "in the loop" is bypassed or not using the footswitch. So when I hit the footswitch on the Saturnworks pedal, anything "inside the loop" is ACTIVE (in this case my MultiStomp). When I hit the footswitch again, anything inside the loop is INACTIVE and the signal passes through WITHOUT hitting the MultiStomp. I hope this makes sense; I haven't watched this video in a while or owned either of these devices in a while but I think I explain it in the video as well.
Very cool!! I’ve been thinking about finally getting a ZOIA lately - there’s a specific pedal combo I want but doesn’t exist as far as I know, but pretty sure I could build it in ZOIA and this serves as a reminder of how “simple” it could be!
Someone on Discord pointed out how there's nothing wrong with using complex devices simply and they couldn't be more correct! I think you'd have a blast with ZOIA. It's truly endless.
I hadn't watched this one in a LONG time and this comment made me rewatch. Good vibes and I don't know if I ever went this direction in any of my solo music but maybe I will someday! Thanks for watching.
It was doing nothing at all the whole time. The Line Selector effect you see on the screen is set to bypass/off; you can tell it's off since the red light to the top left of the stompswitch is off the entire video. This video is almost entirely Canyon and while I don't have it anymore, I still really like the sounds here and would happily use one again.
Thanks so much, I appreciate the kind words here and elsewhere =) Sorry to say I don't really make much content anymore but hopefully you can enjoy the rest of the back catalog.
Sorry no one has helped you yet. I never use that method of storing things and I don't have this version of the pedal anymore with these presets so I'm of no use either. Thanks for watching though!
this videos are great man! It will be great if you make another one, its been a long time since the last :( just got mi zoom pedal and I'm having a lot of fun
Yaknow, I don't know and I'm away from my board so I can't check! I would guess that it does since yr switching things entirely but I'm happy to test this once I get home later on. Comment back in a few days in case I forget but I'm happy to look into this for you. Also, someone may have answered this on the subreddit if you wanna dig for an answer: reddit.com/r/zoommultistomp
@@tom-dahl1598 It does indeed but only for the effects that have a trails switch listed. Most of the delay and reverb have it but some do not; I'd check the manual.
Hey man, love this demo. Finally sold me on the pedal :) I was wondering whether there's a way to add a sort of static/hiss reminiscent of tapes on top of the crackle that can be added with the vinyl delay. Maybe using the bitcrusher?
Hmm so you want like random crackles happening on their own or just a crackly texture on top? The bit crusher is a smart idea but it won't provide you extra sounds on its own. Lo-Fi Reverb has some crackly stuff in it as well or you could try messing with the Drive Echo to see if that has some of the textures you're looking for. Oh and thanks for the kind words!
@@PedalFriends thanks for the advice. Yeah, there’s these pedals now that actually generate hiss and lofi crackles. Before spending way too much on one of those I’d thought I’d give this a shot. There’s a video on here of someone using the vinyl delay for crackles!
@@iasonpassaris oh yeah I forgot about that! I dunno if it'll do it the way some of those newer pedals will do but it could get close enough to suffice. Interested to hear how yr experiments go if you remember to share the results.
@@iasonpassaris so some of the sounds are not of my own design and the only way to get them is to go through that Reddit thread; I notated in the video the users who created those sounds when I use them so I’d suggest Ctrl-F and search for their name in the big thread. Otherwise, here’s a direct link to MY settings: www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/7pxym3/zoom_multistomp_settings_and_discussion_thread/dt6dc38/?context=3
Great to see you back making videos again! :) I only got sound on the left channel in this video, don't know if that was intentional or something you're already aware of.
Ahhh jeez I thought iMovie would correct that. It’s not intentional for sure but I also have no idea how to fix it and will just leave it be for now but thanks for the heads up!
Hey thanks! Blue neck and silver bridge. There’s some really interesting, really ultra-thin or really particular honky-ish sounds within the different combinations and it’s so cool to bump around the settings to find the right sound for stuff I’m working on.
@@PedalFriends That's awesome. I've been considering putting a Dimarzio Chopper in the bridge of mine, but I'm worried that I'll miss that wiry sound afterwards. I have hot lace golds in my strat that I love.
@@TheEchomaker I wanted to get regular Golds for this guitar to make it as close to a Strat Plus as possible but got a great deal on these so I can’t complain. I can’t necessarily say I’ll stick with these forever but switching em out is the glory of pickups, right?
@@PedalFriends True, although more of a hotswap option would be nice (I think EMG might do something like this). The hot golds sound like single coils with an added noise gate and compressor to me.
@@PedalFriends You know what? I think I can already do this! I've got a 25 y/o Zoom 505, a Zoom MS-70CDR and a Zoom G1on (which is basically a plastic MS-70CDR). I'll put the 505 in the middle and the other two left and right! Thanks for opening new horizons for me!
Good question! Many of the individual effects I use here are now able to be used on the MS-50G if you use the USB port to put them on the device. Once you do that, you can use almost any of the patches I've created here and plenty of others archived over at reddit.com/r/zoommultistomp (I'd also suggest browsing around over there for tips, tricks, advice, and help for more advanced questions or scrolling down through these comments to see if anyone else has asked about and solved any issues you encounter).
