Awesome episode brother the stack is growing. Just love it I break the quarter of a tonne melted in the next episode awesome brother catch you on Friday
I wouldn't think the wheels would be the go , but yes great job melting them down , I worked out the aluminium does take a while to cool so they drop out better just takes longer
What is the name of the sand you use for the mold, as well as the frame used to hold it, the thing you use to pound it, and the powder you use to keep the layers from sticking
Ok so the sand is called petrobond, the frame is just a cast iron castings mould, I now use a mallet to pound it and the powder is talcum powder. Hope this helps please be safe and just a heads up the game is very addictive 😂
@@meltingipswich one last question, is the sand soft enough for me to use a plastic object as a mold (think like a plastic spoon) or would it break. Is bismuth safe to melt inside on a stove?
@@Michalsoft_Pain hi there a plastic spoon should be fine just think about it when you’re ramming it also it has to be very compact also make sure you sieve the sand to begin with so you can get the definition and bismuth is completely harmless you can actually ingest bismuth there is small amounts of it in Pepto-Bismol
Got it thanks. I'm thinking of making something that's like a small bowl, maybe the size/shape of half a ping pong ball. Hope it'll work with this technique
This reminds me of the gold-plated brass pins that are being melted down, cast into ingots and sold on eBay by unscrupulous sellers in the middle east. You are just taking an item that is easy to extract the valuable plating from - and making it completely uneconomical. You might just as well spend the gas and your labor to melt down and sell zinc scrap.
This was melted down for a friend it wasn’t mine. I was just doing as I was asked I know it would have been better to extract the silver. And I would never sell things on eBay under false pretences. Thank you for watching and commenting I welcome all comments 👍
I was pretty surprised to see any sort of silvery appearance on the finished ingots. I'd have thought they would look like brass, which I am assuming is the main underlying metal, although some could be pewter. Also surprised to NOT see the normal scabby surface appearance of pure copper and to some extent, brass. I'd reco doing a specific gravity test (hang with string in water) on that smaller bar to get an idea of the composition, just for giggles.
mold warmers of flebay look like steel rods - drill a hole then u have foot warmer careful they are ground to out side of the case !!! so do some thinking before u plug it in
Well brother that didn't turn out the way I thought it would. Still pink on cooling. What about shot. very hard to get uniform balls in water. Maybe this will work better. Awesome episode brother copper melt today for me stay safe brother
Thank you. I’ve actually never done copper shots maybe I will try that. They didn’t come out like I thought either I was expecting a bit more shiny red on the cooling. Hope your melt went well 👍
Steam explosion. Imagine having a red hot saucepan with nothing in it and then dropping a tiny bit of water in it you get an instant steam reaction now multiply that by 10 - 15 but the moisture is inside the metal. You then touch it onto 1100°c molten metal that’s going to go bang 💥 Thank you for the question and I hope that answers it for you and thank you for watching 👍
Bear in mind extrusion grade aluminium will be a lot less suitable for casting with, you may find any casting you make with this is weaker than expected
Thank you I’ll bear that in mind I’m not an expert at this I’m still learning and I’m still trying to find the best stuff to cast with. I know zinc is good but it’s finding it as I like to do everything white found, recovered and recycled material. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Thanks for sharing. I’ve been polishing a buck 110 and I’ve been trying to get it to perfection because other videos I’ve watched have always shown their work from a distance. You showed it up close and my work looks just like yours up close thanks for doing this I’ve been racking my brain for 3 days. Thumbs up for sure.
