La Petite Bande (Belgium) was founded in 1972 by Sigiswald Kuijken at the request of the record company Harmonia Mundi (Germany) in order to record Lully's "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme", under the direction of Gustav Leonhardt. The orchestra takes its name and constitution from Lully's own orchestra at the court of Louis XIV. All its members are internationally renowned specialists in the early music field.
I do not exaggerate when I say that this performance is a gift to humanity. I have written subtitles to this production and would be honored if you would use them.
It was so unique, a once in a life time experience. Its just Quality and Art. The music, the singing, the costumes, the drama! I have enjoyed the performance in CC Asse so much...❤❤❤
As was often the case in Mozart's time, and in order to make this project more agile and affordable for future tournées, Sigiswald Kuijken has adapted the opera's score for chamber ensemble: a string quintet with double bass and two horns, supported by a harpsichord. All musical elements and harmonies are present.
