Founded in 1992, the CLASSIC CAR CLUB OF CEYLON brings together a group of people with a profound respect and love for classic cars. The club today boasts over 250 members. We provide the foundation for the preservation of these masterful works by enabling members to interact, share ideas & restoration tips, as well as providing an opportunity to exercise these machines in a safe environment via our regular club events. We also drive the love for classics by organizing public and educational events giving a wider audience access to the history and beauty of these cars.

The cars of the Classic Car Club of Ceylon are always an absolute feast for motorheads worldwide! It is always interesting to see vehicles from around the world in locations around the world, hear the owners' stories and opinions on their pride and joy! I am not a fan of modern Mercedes, nor most modern cars, but I remember the old W108 / W109 models here in the USA at a time when these were a rare sight rather than extremely ordinary made for anyone with decent credit. These cars were built to a standard, and built to last, actually like many luxury cars were at times. Here, Cadillacs and Lincolns were built to a standard of excellence in the 1960s and served people properly provided it was maintained; unfortunately, we became a "throwaway society" so to keep various industries pumping out "new and improved" products. But to me, this classic Mercedes is one of if not the ultimate Mercedes models, even in lowly 280 base form! This car was also a turning point for Mercedes where horsepower became a greater focus. Thank you for sharing another great car profile! EDIT: I always love to see young women enjoying classic cars and showing knowledge and interest in the hobby! Actually, for me it was the reverse as my Mother (who had a bit of a car-crazy family) would name car models for me as a kid, and I remember being able to identify any common vehicles by the time I was five. A lovely choice!
Sri Lanka is so corrupt it has passed a law tonexport out classics ( no doubt some crrok had one he wanted to take out) YET IT PROHIBITS BRINGING IN A CLASSIC 🚫 We have to wonder where the leaders are leading us? Bring back Ceylon!
The Classic Car Club of Ceylon is always full of gems! I love the variety of cars of all types, eras, and from all over the world! As always, many thanks for sharing these videos, plus the stories behind them.
I had 2 Capris in the 80s in the UK when I was a young lad - they still look fabulous now! Great that you care for this car so well and keep it going. It would be great to drive on the twisty roads from Kandy to Newark Eliya, which I visited many years ago - breath taking scenery!
This is the type of car we (especially in the USA, alas) have moved away from entirely, alas. Light, decent power-to-weight ratio....can't ask for more fun than THAT! Another magnificent presentation from Sri Lanka! Thanks!!!
Beautiful!!! The Classic Car Club never ceases to amaze me with the assortment of cars that the members cherish! My familiarity with the Corsair came from the model versions made in the 1960s (Matchbox, Dinky, and Lone Star). I always liked that modern, futuristic, Detroit-influenced styling with inspiration taken from Ford USA's crown jewel 1961 Thunderbird, but scaled down to a smaller more practical size and in a more practical sedan version. Such a unique classic!
Haha, yes, those are the BEST cars! The "Q Ship" that looks very much like a standard model, but gives you the confidence and authority to drive with proper assertion! These were the last of the best Mercedes-Benz cars, in my opinion. Built to a standard (not a price), exceptionally durable with proper care, and smart, dignified styling with the hood ornament (what ever happened to that styling element?????), and none of the fussy electric fatures and "infotainment" nonsense (are you driving, or are you there for "infotainment") This is the type of car I would buy new and then keep forever....just timeless. A tip of the hat to another Classic Car Club of Ceylon owner and vehicle. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed, a showstopper! This is something that Marilyn Monroe should have (or maybe DID!) driving. I was so surprised that Cadillac offered a four-speed automatic transmission in 1952, and I had to doublecheck. You are correct, Sir....forgive me for my ignorance! I didn't think there was anything more than three speed automatics until decades later. What an epic way to celebrate the pleasant, sunny days of Sri Lanka! This would be magnificent to drive on an open road.
