With its American influenced styling, striking green colour and the steering wheel located on the wrong side (left hand drive), this Swedish stallion is definitely a head turner. Introducing the 1958 Volvo PV444, Volvo’s first small car and the one that really got its car production moving.
So enormous was the initial interest in this model when it debuted at the 1944 Volvo exhibition in Stockholm, the planned production of 8,000 cars became almost 200,000 before an updated model was launched. It also heralded the beginning of Volvo’s now legendary focus on safety by incorporating revolutionary safety features such as a laminated windscreen.
It is a rare sight on our roads with only two cars recorded as having been imported into Sri Lanka. This particular car has been pristinely maintained and has a very sentimental story attached to it.
