Retail markup is approximately 100 percent of the manufacturers cost, because retailers have a lot overhead themselves. the standard rule is to add 25 percent to the cost of the wholesale price for Warranty, and god forbid the possibility of a recall, Then BOM cost, labor, operating costs (besides just labor), shipping, R and D and safety certifications, and all of that before a single dollar of profit. That company who shall not be named saves a ton on R and D and labor (because they are basically paying slave labor wages). They also benefit massively from economy of scale I mean really Yamaha, and inMusic, and possibly Focusrite/Novation are the only other synth manufacturers that operate with as much money behind them.
Always a pleasure to hear from Nick, and great fun to witness him speaking about himself. 👏 He’s so well-liked because he’s such a good dude who isn’t caustic or combative.
Manu "It's not fun anymore" BEFACO is really fun dude. And do they make awesome work. Hope they can keep it going and have fun again. Eurorack is infinite.
This synth would have gained so much more praise if it had a chorus circuit, and it would have had less of a harsh reputation. Sure, little more voices or a dual option like on the 8 would have killed it, but it is a great one with a great accessibility and really cool arpeggio's (even more fun with the Europa mod) nonetheless.
Awesome!!! A thoroughly enjoyable episode, as always...very entertaining, wholy informative, and totally inspiring... I gaze affectionatly at my recently completed Clacktronics BYOM and I'm thinking, 'I need more lfos/envs...now then, where did I put that perf-board..?' O-oh!! 🪛🤓🔧
hey, this stillone of the most best demos of the polybrute. it has still a bad image when it comes to sound. i think the polybrute doesn't sound classic or vintage. its a fresh sound with its own character. very big low end. the only thing i think where it lacks is the filters. I don't know what it is, but the filters doesn't have that glassy sharp sound like most. like p6, p5, ob6, korg prologue, rev 2.... do you know what i mean? its more hissy. hard to put it in words.
can anyone tell me if the 5 axis pad to the left is available as an add-on accessory and if so, what might it be called or how might it be referred to, in order to identify it? Thanks
Question: If you ignored the sequencer from the Labyrinth entirely does it still make sense as a great desktop synth for bass and bleep bloops? I prefer external sequencers from my DAW sending midi notes into the synth and affecting it from there. Not about to change my workflow so is another synth a better option? or is the Labyrinth perfect for this and just ignore the sequencer?
you sold me atlantis, metropolis, metropolix (where my music was already on a hiatus). I'm just getting out of that hiatus. I hope. But I wan't fall for it again ;) Absolutely nice.
Keep coming back to this one. What an awesome resource with great examples 👍 I guess my takeaway is that whilst you can create similar sounds and vibes, the power of the Music Easel is in how playable and how coherent of an instrument it is
Great concept! I immediately thought of some synths that have a similar approach, like the Korg Mono/Poly, Vermona Perfourmer and the infamous Akai Timbre Wolf (which IMO is actually a pretty decent synth, it's just the filters that suck, and they only do suck when the resonance is up). I love setting all 4 voices to round robin on my Perfourmer and playing arpeggios, bonus points if the number of notes in the arpeggio is not divisible by 4. As for Yarns, yes, there are plenty of clones, I recommend the ones by Tunefish, very affordable and high quality. I also have an OG Yarns that I hardly use these days. If you want it, maybe we can make a deal and I can send it over with the next shipment of Neutral Labs stuff that's going to happen eventually. 😉
