This theme song was so seventies, so great. In 1970 I was ten years old and I can remember this song like it was yesterday. My brother and I would watch and we used to get excited for halftime because they showed all the highlights from Sunday’s games.
The Cowboys wanted out of the Cotton Bowl as the area around the stadium was "seedy" and dangerous. However, the city of Dallas balked at any attempt to build a new stadium. The city of Irving (north of Dallas) gladly accepted the Cowboys' proposals and came up with a tract of land and outstanding tax incentives to build it and Texas Stadium opened in 1971. The original plan was for Texas Stadium to have a retractable roof but ultimately it was found that the roof structure wouldn't be able to support such a roof so a "hole" was left in the roof. The old saying in Texas was that the roof was left open to let "God watch the Cowboys".
Like most Americans who watched Monday Night Football, I hated the obnoxious cartoon character named Howeird Cosell - especially his giant nose with its gross nose hairs sticking out like mulberry bushes. YUCK!
