@@PiotrBarcz I liked my Samsungs a lot. The only issue I ever had with them was battery life. They have awful batteries. For a whole, I was enrolled and planning on going to New York University’s campus in Shanghai, China this fall. Ultimately, I changed my mind. I will now be studying at a different university, The New School, in New York City (right in the heart of the Greenwich Village Jazz scene😁). When I was planning on heading to China, I was informed that Samsungs are largely not supported over there, so I switched to all Apple. The new phone is an iPhone 15 Pro Max. I got a brand new MacBook and Apple Watch too. The Mac is great, but the phone seems to not have as many features as the Samsung did. It works well enough, but the audio and video quality are definitely much worse.
@@TheAmpico Hey you'll be in Greenwich? Maybe you can come visit :D Also iPhones generally have decent sound and exemplary video, I'm surprised yours had such a bad result that first time.
@@PiotrBarcz Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Aren’t you upstate? At one point, iPhones had better cameras and microphones, but for the past 5 or so years, Samsung has far surpassed them in both. The iPhone camera is okay, but it is definitely worse than the Samsung. The Samsung could make great videos. The audio quality wasn’t outstanding, but it was certainly passable.
What a great sound! What a spectacular piano. To me, this is the top of the line player system and transcends modern technology. With a great piano, a top flight reproducing system, and a first class arrangement….it doesn’t get any better.😊
I am a piano tech who loves Mason & Hamlin pianos. And whoever did the restoration on this one did an incredible job both in appearance and sound and the tuning itself. It's all good.
Thanks, Piotr! To be honest, the piano doesn’t need restored at the moment. It’s doing quite well. Hopefully, the Ampico can be restored before too long.
@@TheAmpico Thank-you so much! It truly is a great city, and friendly people. As for college, Pitt, CMU and Duquesne are all great Universities. I'm from Southern Ontario - St Catharines, between Toronto and Buffalo, but have lived in Pittsburgh for a number of years. It's got its ups and downs just like every other metro area. Being in the Great Lakes/Midwest, the winters are cloudy, and what can only be described as gloomy from November through May. Unlike Niagara where I'm from, Pittsburgh is just below the snow belt, so there is not nearly as much snow as further North. Winters can be cold, but usually temps stick around the 30s and 40s in the day, teens and 20s at night. Summers are comfortable, some days are hot and muggy, but any days over 100 degrees only happen once in a 20-25 year period. Transit is great, the airport is new, the roads... well, haha... the roads are terrible. Urban planning back in the day wasn't prepared for the eventual use of expressways, etc. The food is awesome, lots of great restaurants, lots of culture, and throughout the year, there are lots of things to do, whether in the city, or in one of the suburbs. It's still generally safe, compared to Cleveland, Detroit, Philly and NY. It's very similar to Columbus (not sure if you've been there - that's also a great city). Didn't mean to write a novel haha, but hit me up if you move here, would be happy to buy you lunch or dinner, show you some of the sights!
@@waynemasters It sounds like you are very proud of your city! That says a lot about a place in my opinion. I applied to CMU and Pitt. Considered applying to Duq too. I ended up enrolling at The New School, a private university in Manhattan, to study jazz piano performance and political science. I am looking forward to being in NYC, but I was very impressed by many of the other cities I considered moving to for school. Pittsburgh and Ithaca with two favorites of mine. I know I will certainly visit both in the future. I wasn’t able to check out Cathy during my last visit to Pittsburgh, so that is certainly on the bucket list. 😊 Best wishes!
Thank you for using the software! I like this roll. I would like to implement Ampico A emulation someday. And the wireless midi output is amazing. I'm using a Roland USB-MIDI cable, but wireless is great because you can put your PC anywhere you like.
Thank you so much for making this software available to the public! I have loved using it. The Bluetooth works fairly well, but can be finicky at times. I do appreciate having the ability to control the piano from almost anywhere in my house from the phone or laptop. Very convenient. Regarding using the app, is there a way to “rewind” or “fast forward” the roll without starting back from the beginning?
@@kyokutyou2007To be honest, I have no idea. Haha. I just got it a couple of months ago for school. It is a 2023 release MacBook Pro 14” with their medium grade chip, whatever model that is. Haha. It seems to work quite well. I’m not techy and have never been a fan of Apple products, but I love the Mac.
This is the speed of the roll as it was recorded in the 1920s. It isn't the speed that it went in the movie with Gene Kelly, but this is the speed that most fox trots would have been played at for dancing.
I bought the piano with the player, but it was installed in 1999. Now, this player model is no longer made (or supported), but the new systems are roughly $8-10k with installation.
I wonder if it’s because of the TikTok girl that recorded her singing with a player. Nice old Al Bowlly tune. I stay away from TikTok, but a friend showed me that version. Enjoyable.
@@TheAmpico Oh is that what happened? She actually sang it pretty well, would love to know which video she sang to though, could be a MechanicMusic45 recording because of the piano roll view and the coloring of the video.
I don’t know if it is how Gershwin cut it, or if it was a scanning issue, but I feel like this Duo-Art version has lots of lurching. Almost like a poorly adjusted air motor. Jack Gibbons’ transcription sounds much better imo.
One of those random Duo-Art rolls that I've never been able to find information on other than that Terry Smythe scanned it and that the theme holes were missed in the emulation because the dynamics are crazy xD
@@PiotrBarczFair enough. I just think there are better arrangements out there. This one is pretty plain. No ornamentation. Good enough for dancing though. I guess that is primarily what this roll would’ve been intended for anyway.
