So I will give some back ground into the reason I mentioned the call to positivity in this video. I will not mention any names but I know some who are reading this are aware of who I am talking about. Please do not put any names in these comments as I will remove the comment to maintain the decorum and maintain the professionalism of this channel plus the individual I am referring to feeds off the drama. I was not aware of the drama playing out over the last few years that involved some of the more well known in our field but it came to my attention last year year when one of the prolific posters contacted me. He gave some insight into what he and others had learned and experienced regarding a particular individual and his partner who was actively creating discord on various carpet cleaner forums. I had some dealings with this individual and his partner in the previous year as I too had been on their Facebook page as a participant. I had joined reluctantly after an invite by them but only as I hoped I would be able to influence a higher standard of practice, image and chemical usage. This was not the focus of their content and I as well as many others who participated was suddenly blocked and no longer welcome. That was certainly no loss in my view and I continued on with my channel and often reiterated my concern regarding unsafe usage of certain chemistry. I have been around long enough to have seen quite a few carpet cleaners succumb to what was likely an untimely death and often wondered if exposure to unsafe chemistry and practices was the cause. The individual who contacted me was very gracious to reach out as he and I had been having a kind of feud regarding the use of potentially harmful chemistry but what he told me was quite alarming. The protagonist had been stirring the pot as it were in this matter and feeding false and misrepresented information to others often taking things said out of context and literally accusing me of hating the caller. We had a great conversation as he had realized he and others had been "played" and the individual who was primarily behind this drama was doing this purposefully as he said in his own words in a recent comment and was laughing at us and all the discord he was causing . The individual who called and others had been interacting directly with the protagonists in the past and they had even tried to help them succeed and even gifting items to them to be supportive as they were in a financially compromised situation at one time. This individual is contrary to all attempts to raise the standards as true professionals would. He strives for and delights in taking pot shots and often takes comments others make, usually out of context and then posts long rants mocking others on his own recently created Facebook group. He claims he is the most knowledgable and well respected carpet cleaner anywhere and states he is the most influential carpet cleaning poster on RU-vid. He has a great dislike for the idea behind the SETT program and the call to higher standards and nearly every time I post a video another rant will appear on his page where he criticizes and mocks everything I do. This in no way affects me other than to be amusing and slightly irritating but as I and the other primary individuals who have been under constant attack have understood the spirit behind all this we concluded we will totally ignore everything posted about us and we will not even expose ourselves by watching or reading anything he posts. We are professionals who desire to be the best we can be at all aspects of this business and the SETT program is a good idea and as we move forward we hope to continue to attract the best of the best in this field and the focus is quality and performance and encouraging and helping each other succeed. Our Facebook group is SETT (soil Extraction Transfer Technology) and if you are a carpet cleaner using pad extraction to clean come and join us as we encourage and help and learn from each other and succeed together.
One thing I did forget to mention is that the protagonist is very adamant that the only machine of any consequence to use with VLM cleaning is the Oreck and is very angry with the SETT method replacing the use of "bonnet cleaning" to describe what method we clean with. He has a great dislike of the rotary and often makes incorrect claims about its use and calls it primitive technology. My position is that I prefer it and have always stood up as a defender of its use and while an OP machine is a great choice rotary users have nothing to be ashamed of and that has been the focus of my channel. We are all on the same team and we can all succeed together and if we help and encourage each other we all benefit.
Hi Robin. I did notice awhile back a paradigm merger between the ULM/SETT folks which pleased me very much, as I subscribe to all. It was almost overnight and I wondered if something went on so this makes perfect sense. I think there’s several issues at play with regards to VLM/ULM/SETT and an individuals perception of it. From my view, they are: 1. You and others are not saying SETT is the be all and end all. Many times you’ve mentioned HWE and when you would use it (Upholstery). It’s a method/tool to have in your arsenal where the pros outweigh the cons 10 to 1. 2. You are not saying, “You need to do X then Y”. You’re saying, This is how “I prefer do it”. I’ve heard you talk about different techniques (that are specific to a customers needs) however you encourage everyone to understand the basics first. 3. I have never heard you lecture viewers or given a TED talk about your chosen method and why it’s the best. It’s been the customer that determines the quality by voting with their wallets and reviews, bookings. I’ve lost count how many times you’ve said, “I’ve been here 12 months ago, I started with this client 4 years ago, I’ve done their lets and homes”. 4. You are not selling products (chemistry, bonnets). You actually urge viewers to try their own products they like and experiment (not at a customers). Nanomaxx and Suspend are the two you mention BUT that’s because you’ll be asked 100x if you don’t say and it’s incorporated into your method. 5. The technology associated with VLM/ULM/SETT has advanced a heck of a lot over the years. Products and tools have advanced, meaning it’s not what it was 10/15 years ago. It can be hard for those who are institutionalised with HWE. Even the general public don’t understand where the dirt goes. I didn’t when I first saw it, however after watching yourself & Corey (get well soon Corey) it became very clear. Ignore what those “See You Next Tuesday’s” say. You shouldn’t silence their comments. Let them ride and those who know, know.
Encap system that inspired Kirby's version? I say that as it resembles Kirby's method and Kirby seems more intuitive to use. I'm more of a Rainbow/hot water extraction guy but everyone has their opinion and preference. Encapsulation seems to require that you thoroughly vacuum after that while hot water extraction doesn't totally depend on it but helps remove some loosened residuals. Plus h.w.e. usually has a rinse focus.
The VS solution does not leave a soil attracting residue and does not require rinsing, their chemical dries down to a friable powder that is an early version of encapsulation
Nice job! I really like those hog hair fiber pads, they do an AMAZING job at scrubbing and agitating. I agree with you on your choice of machine, the Oreck would have been more "convenient" however, it would not have done as good of a job as this machine did. Oreck is roughly 25 - 35 pounds, this machine I am assuming it is at least 100 pounds or more. Makes a huge difference in pressure when it comes to agitating and scrubbing. Another fantastic job Robin! Keep inspiring and educating people, maybe we can turn all HWE guys to join the SETT REVOLUTION! #SETTREVOLUTION
Some clowns think it's possible to use the Oreck in every situation as if it is actually a viable choice. Will it work in a pinch? sure but why use a lightweight that does a passible job when you can use a real professional tool and do it much more efficiently and effectively.
No Soil Extraction Transfer Technology The second pad is transferring the emulsified soil from the carpet Encapsulation scrubs and emulsifies the soil but leaves the soil in to be removed with subsequent vacuuming
It’s basically encapsulation cleaning with a fancy name, so it still needs to be vacuumed up afterwards 🙄 I’m not knocking it at all but it’s the same thing. Bonnet carpet cleaning is another name.
@@Welsh_Aussie Not at all. VLM / SETT method uses actual cleaning agents to lift and suspend the soil during agitation. Then it gets extracted out of the carpet with the pad. Encapsulation is basically a polymer that wraps itself around soil particles and sits there until vacuumed out.
@@ProCleanersCarpetCleaning Years ago encapsulation was called shampooing but Rick Gelinas realized carpet cleaners would reject that term and he came up with a "new" thing called encapsulation. Prior to encapsulation there were encapsulating shampoos but they were called crystallizing shampoo that was scrubbed in and then after it dried subsequent vacuuming removed the crystallized soils. So encapsulation was not a new thing at all it was simply a rebrand of a prior thing and that is the purpose of the SETT acronym. The prior bad reputation associated with bonnet cleaning that is a carry over from the janitorial field and dubious videos on RU-vid promoting poor practices and products under the bonnet name has prompted some users of this method to desire a rebrand and a disassociation from the poor standards associated with the old "bonnet" system. There was a lot of resistance to the encapsulation method initially but over time it has become recognized as a system unto its own. Ironically it was and still is shampooing and with the right product and procedure shampooing was and is still a very viable method.
@@stevenschoen1138 it seems as though the names have changed over the years. Encapsulation used to be called shampooing too. How does a pad collect all the first back up?
No, you really do not want to use Encapsulation method in a Residential Home. Not very professional in my opinion, unless you absolutely need to that is. You are leaving behind all of the dirt and grime in the carpeting. Then you REQUIRE the homeowner to basically "finish" your job by vacuuming the dirt and grime away that they paid "you" to clean.
I just to clarify one point in this video and be sure everyone watching understands what they are seeing. I am using my 300 rpm video on this job and it is turning the pad 125 times 360 degrees more on the carpet than at 175 rpm. This translates into about 9x per second so quite a bit more than at the lower speed. In this video i am not trying to move the machine faster on the carpet than is comfortable but i am moving it at a rate i can see is cleaning perfectly well. My priority was not to try to show how fast was possible but rather how fast was normal with a 300 rpm rotary. I was in no way compromising the cleaning performance in making this video. This video is showing how fast and efficient an experienced operator can comfortably clean with a 300 rpm rotary and clean a carpet with no compromise on the quality of the job. Years ago there was a video put out by Paul Brown where he literally ran with a 300 rpm rotary as he cleaned to prove what was possible. I have no intention of ever doing that but i never forgot what i saw.
John at Bonnet Pro regularly cleans large commercial jobs with a rotary. Even if you save 15 minute over the course of a 4 hour job you can get a used rotary for $600 versus an OP for $5000. And the rotary is basically self-propelled. Us old guys need simple, easy and effortless. My beastly Centaur Rabbit eats square footage for dinner.
Love the new shirts Robin!!! This is a fantastic video! I do believe that one should have a uniform or something in those lines. The more professional you can make your business look the better in my opiinion.
There was one thing I forgot to mention and my wife pointed this out to me. Most of the time when I am cleaning in peoples homes it is the wife who is there alone. Arriving in a professional, signed vehicle and wearing a proper uniform with the business name embroidered on it and properly trimmed hair and beard is the appropriate image we as professionals need to portray. This gives the women the assurance the man they are allowing into their home while they are there alone is a true professional and helps to put their mind at ease.
Absolutely! Well said, I'd say 80% - 90% of the people I meet for the job are women. Being and LOOKING professional I think eases their minds when they let a strange man come into their homes.
Image is everything, I hate to say that our society is like this but we our judged on how we represent our selves so image is everything ❤ and I can hear Tom hanks yelling out for “ Wilson “ in the background lol
I am glad to be sharing this as it and will hopefully be a warning to others, these scammers are getting very good at what they do and AI is taking it to a whole new level, you cannot even trust what you see on the screen anymore.
Raising kids is so hard but it doesn’t stop once they’re older. I still have younger ones but worries me so much still. You sound level headed and like a wise dad and someone your kids can call to get help from.
