when a team 'develops' starters, people tend to think that's where all the coaching/development effort went and when those starters leave, the cupboard is now bare, because that's what happens to a lot of programs. it's going to take a few more years of consistent reloads from within (augmented by the occasional transfer portal acquisition) before people begin to respect the idea that it's possible to keep developing players ready to step up & keep the program going. and the reality is that most of the talking heads really don't know enough about how the program works to accept that until they see it for themselves up close. finebaum used to hate on michigan & especially harbaugh with a passion, but after he got to observe the team firsthand before the rose bowl, he's been an advocate of the program going as far as describing the team as being: "the epitome of what a college program should be". we build teams centered around pro concepts, while other programs simply collect talent and expect to out-talent their opponents while running college level schemes.

I think Game 2 against Texas will be a bellweather for the season. I could imagine it going either way. Expect Michigan’s Defense to be Excellent but not sure about OL, QB.
Regardless of who is left, Michigan has been the big 10 chance three straight years and I would say this team is better than those first two teams a slight drop off from last year but there’s no way this team isn’t a playoff team especially with a 12 team expansion
I too say Michigan Repeats. The culture remains in tact, the depth is experienced at least and in to play in the playoff last year. Also the Starters are Elite Everywhere

Ocryo State has always had a palpable inferiority complex when it comes to Michigan; so they obsess about Michigan in a way that Michigan simply doesn't about them. 🤷♂️
Hopefully marlon klein can bwll out. Also if they focus on our dts then the edge rushers should get more 1 on 1s and easier pressure allowing them to also make a name for themselves like stewart etc. I do hope we can get higher rated recruiting classes after a good showing this season. No reason top recruits would not want to come to Michigan imo.
I think Raheem Anderson will be a guy who can fill in at guard or center just fine for backing Oline up. You got gentry and persi so both can play. Iv heard link looks real nice out at tackle so if they can move him along fast and stay healthy for most the season at tackle than if they do need a backup he will be ready by mid season there are several other monsters I see in that Oline room that I watched on practice film the other day and dudes are just beasts in that room so I'm comfortable with people stepping up their game if called upon. If there is a weakness in Oline I believe Campbell and Moore are smart enough to play call around it when necessary
I'd have to agree the only question on this team is at QB. Orji has only thrown one pass in a game. Hopefully he can read a defense better than Joe Milton.
@@Kameraspiebeing that was the covid season, I don't think there is any correct answer to be found about Milton's time in AnnArbor. That season was a complete mess from top to bottom and left to right.
Id say the offensive line is a big question. If O Line struggles then forget about a new QB having a chance to develop and the run game will fail too with a bad O Line.

Honest question, with last year's team they ran the ball on everyone, controlled the clock and basically beat team's into submission later in the game. Do you think with the new offense, yet to be seen in game, IF the offense struggles in the first few to gel will that have any effect on the D? Basically if the D has to be on the field more if the O struggles will that effect there performance?

Michigan's defense feels the closest to a true NFL defense than any other in college football. When you arguably have the best secondary in the country with the best corner in all of college football who will be a Top 10 pick in next year's NFL draft, arguably the best two defensive tackles in the country that look like first rounders too, arguably the best two inside 'backers in the Big Ten who will both be drafted, and a defensive coordinator with lots of NFL experience, including a Super Bowl ring as a LB coach with the Ravens, you just might have one of the best starting units to ever step foot on a college football field and potential monster going into 2024. The depth is insane too. I see Rayshaun Benny, T.J. Guy, Trey Pierce, Dominic Nichols, Cam Brandt, Cole Sullivan, Jimmy Rolder, Micah Pollard, and at least five of the backups in the secondary as being guys that are going to step up and make themselves more well known this year. #Bet
Totally agree, we just don’t have the experience and with the brutal schedule we don’t have the luxury of those 3 cupcake games in the beginning of the season to learn.
Ike Iwunnah is doing well and we may see Palepale and Wafle (want Owen Wafle at fullback, think Patrick Ricard from Ravens/ defensive tackle) make an appearance and get some time in as well. Enow Etta and TJ Guy will be on fire. The players will jell together and be outstanding. Michigan will form that already dominate chemistry and Michigan Wolverines Football will remain on top.
@@pmaximus5659true, however I think this will help Michigan get tight quickly and show each other what they have and are made of. At home vs Texas will be a true test that depth will be tested. Players need to play smart football and dig deep like they want the win more. 🏆 bet.

If "the rest of the country knows" I would hear it from my Florida Gator and Florida State Seminole friends all over Florida (where I used to live), but I don't. I don't even hear it from Spartan fans and they are all over Michigan (where I live now).
It's crazy that the only fan base that still complains about it is Ohio. Everyone who knows ball recognizes who the best team in CFB was last year. The Ohio fans need to stop crying and go root on that bloated payroll of a team they will be fielding this fall, a team that will still fall short.
This defense will be very salty. The secondary will be damn good but I think the first and second levels are the best we've seen since 2006. To all of those who remember those guys, they were special. The d-ends and linebackers are going to be very good.
Quinton Johnson never surprised me, thought he had an outstanding year last year and with Rod Moore going down, experience is the most vital to what we need. Hopefully though, we have a safety rotation like 2023!
The fact that we have QJ and Makari Paige starting with Wesley Walker, Brandyn Hillman, and JaDen Mangham backing them up is possibly still a step up from last year even though we lost our best safety in Rod Moore.

Tell you what. We have Rod Moore coaching up players. We have Coach Wink breaking it down for these players that are new to the defense. Not a better coach in Coach Wink to do that. Its where this defense began. 4-2-5 all these players will be ready. Don't sleep on MCBurrows. He's been around awhile. I know MCBurrows is putting in the work. Coach Tress is doing a seamless job. @@thomasorzack5795 that's a shame. Heard some talk that he could be back for the playoffs which Michigan should be right to there. I think #9 in the country..should be higher but that's how it is. Keep winning and keep momentum from the 1st game and one game at a time. Rod Moore is still coaching up the younger players and Moore will pass on that knowledge and help Coach Morgan and Coach Wink in the secondary.
In '97, Michigan had a defense that let offense to find itself and did. I think this will be a situation of the D keeping the scoring low while the O figures it out
they had him last year while teams were huddling then didnt have him in the important games and the defense didnt lose a step, while osu had michigans signs from other coaches and still lost to michigan. I guess living in denial is your coping mechanism.
