Dang, I saw Derek and the Dominoes, West Bruce and Lang but never CREAM. Was a bit too young to go to the small club they played in Arlington Heights Il, The Cellar, back in like 67. So tight here in this performance, none had lost a beat at all.
They really were the { cream } of the crop. 3 was always my lucky number, I thought. These days though, " I ain't supersitious, but a black cat crossed my path. "
Pure music from the pure talent of these guys. I could listen to them all night long. They have not lost their touch. Close your eyes and it's 1966 all over again!!!!!
Most people don't notice how Jimi slipped in a snippit of another patriotic song at the 2:53 mark. Over There from WWI. He did the same type of thing on Wild Thing at Monteray where he gave a taste of Strangers In The Night by Frank Sinatra. He allso did God Save The Queen at Isle of Wight. A song we stole the music from for My Country Tis Of Thee.
Hopefully it's still there on display ( not a paid advertisement ) ... the Hard Rock cafe in Edinburgh has a Jack Bruce bass on the bar wall ..wow , fabuloso 🎻🔥☮.
Cream is one of the best three-man bands ever! Eric Clapton, as always, is a genius on the guitar. Of course, Ginger Baker on drums and Jack Bruce on bass were awesome, too.
The best rythym sections know not only WHEN TO PLAY, but also when NOT TO PLAY. I just love Jack's "missing notes" and how they sync with Ginger's "missing hits". Great syncopation of bass and drums was always the hallmark of great 60s rock bands like Cream.
As a former singer, guitarist and band leader, I have always had a tendency to sing with whatever is on the radio when I'm driving. My current car, which was new in 2016, has a CD/DVD player that will play CD-R and DVD+R disks and has a 40Gb hard drive for MP3s and MP4 videos. It might even play BD disks, I don't know as I never tested that. I watched my BD of this concert at home the other day (which looked amazing on a 50" TV) and two songs from this show stuck in my head... Spoonful and Outside Woman Blues. So this morning I was driving and my daughter was with me. Outside Woman Blues came up on the MP3 playlist and without giving it much thought, I cranked it up and started singing along with Eric Clapton. After the song was over my daughter said something so I turned the music down. She said "Wow, Dad. How many years has it been since you been retired?" So I told her I retired in 1994, so this October it will be 30 years. She looks at me and said "You still have your voice." All I could think of to say was "Well, this Nick Nolte voice I've developed in my old age makes it sound good for singing the blues." :)
It's the various little things I've always liked about this concert series, such as Ginger giving a subtle nod and smile to Eric at 1:17 that he's ready to go.
Jack looks like he’s 35, Ginger looks 40 and Eric looks about 28 😂. It’s a miracle Eric is still alive and playing after 15+ years of heavy drug and alcohol use, good for him for turning his life around though
