I'm surprised that no one mentioned it yet, but at the end of the MV, it says that it was inspired by Midsommar (the 2019 movie), which takes place in Sweden and involves mid-summer solstice themes. It also is a horror film.
You are correct about the easter eggs hidden in the video. Lyrics and video go hand in hand. The lyrics and the video is about inclusion and representation of SEA community on general. Majority of the time westerners think of asia they think of japan, korea and china. She's reminding everyone that SEA countries are asians too and have a range of shades of skin. Not all asians have that porcelain white skin, that is represented by the dancers with the white hoodies. There's a lot more for sure.

One of Red Velvet's titles is "B-sides Masters". Listen to their whole album is almost a must, they have so goooood music... They really work on everything in every comeback and you as a expectador really don't know what you'll get...just good music ofc. And yes, they're kinda weird, their title songs always have something...unsettling
Red Velvet is one of THE BEST groups ever exist on music scene. Their discography is chef's kiss and I don't say that just by fan's perspective. The critics say it, you can do a little research into some non biased articles. However, I don't want to sound this way, but what is true it's true - the company of Red Velvet is called SM Entertainment and they are famous with two things - bad management and MUSIC (it's in capital letters for a reason). Their groups are top notch and nothing less. Red Velvet EXO SHINee NCT TVXQ Girls' Generation a.k.a SNSD SUPER JUNIOR and etc. All of these groups have a great voices, their songs diverse in genres but all the groups have their individual flavour and amazing songs - with harmonies, bridges, interesting instrumentals and VOCALS. Actually SM is considered as a powerhous of great performers and some of the best singers in the industry. To name some - Max Changmin (TVXQ), Kyuhyun, Yesung, Ryeowook (Super Junior), Chen, Baekhyun, D.O. (EXO), Wendy (Red Velvet), Winter, Ningning (aespa), these are just few of the legendary singers from SM. To recommend something... Red Velvet "Psycho", "Chill Kill", "Feel My Rhythm" (art, pure art) And the boy group EXO with "Tempo", "Let Me In", "Cream Soda". Actually their whole discography. also EXO are known as Vocal Kings of k-pop and they have runs and ad-libs for ages, girl. EXO is an exceptional group, seriously. Thank you! Have a great Friday 😊
Red Velvet I s the most talented kpop group. They will spoil you with the top level vocals, visuals, choreo, stage presence, Weaponry……. Still outdoing themselves even in their 10th year. Idols of idols. Red Velvet is a genre of itself where nobody can duplicate. Standards are high.

Red Velvet actually debuted before Blackpink. So their music and other different music has been out it's not new. I think you maybe just only heard one certain type of sound but that's never been all of Kpop at all. Every group is different. Everyone is not even a group. There are duos, there are solo artists, there is K R&B and K-Hip Hop, there is house and dance, etc. Kpop is such an umbrella term it doesn't even specifically mean anything anymore. So that's probably why you're surprised it sounds a certain way cause Kpop doesn't sound one certain way; just like with any music it just depends on what particular artist or group you listen to. Many songwriters and producers are from overseas, though many are also Korean. It's just a mix now. Twice is known for example for consistent 80s synth in their sound. Red Velvet are extremely special, it's hard to explain them, they're just special. I've been in Kpop since 2nd gen and there's just literally no group in the industry like them, before or now. They are also just straight up vocalists. Their music is known for full and beautiful instrumentals, gorgeous bridges and haunting, high level vocals (they rarely rap they are a vocal group). Their music and concept is haunting, creepy, fun, bright, dark and artistic. They just celebrated their 10th year anniversary. They have an extremely iconic career that's obviously still going. I would recommend Psycho, Russian Roulette, Rookie and One of These Nights. I picked these because they're kind of staples and show a taste of the diversity of their discography and MVs as well as their vocal level. i'm glad you loved Cosmic, the entire EP is as good as this title song, as usual with them <3
Yeah there’s A LOT of diverse kpop artists that’s not the same sound or genre of other well known/popular kpop artists. Groups like Red Velvet, WINNER, AKMU, and many other groups as I said have very unique concepts and have their own color or signature style of music. Also, kpop music videos are actually very artistic and have messages in it. It’s not what is always shown again when it comes the popular kpop artists that you may have seen or watched before. But yeah just know KPOP is very diverse..it’s not just one typical style or kind of MVs…you just have to discover other Korean artists. I mean honestly Korean r&b artists is just as talented and have amazing songs/MVs too. Korean bands have amazing MVs and great music as well.
You should check out their recording behinds. You'll love it. This is the best group to explore if you want to understand the depth of K-pop. Their B-sides are god-tier.
You can checkout all Red Velvet discography through the years 2014-2024, doesn't have to upload a video just use your own time so you will know RV sounds
Each K-pop group has its own characteristics. I can't recommend a group because I don't know your taste in music. So, the most popular groups now in Korea are Newjeans, Aespa, and Ive. Being the most popular group means being at the top of the music charts. Boy groups have much more fans. But the music chart is dominated by girl groups. If you want to find a popular group yourself, you can look at the Korean Melon chart. (TOP100) It's the same as H100 in the US, but it is safe to assume that this chart is measured only by streaming(the number of unique listeners) And check out the groups from the four major music companies Hybe, YG, SM, and JYP. Most of the talented people go there. Listen to the songs of popular groups one by one and see if there's anything you like. anyway, I like Aespa and Red Velvet because they have good live vocal skills. However, the songs I listen to the most is Aespa's songs. But if you like Red Velvet's songs, I don't think you'll like Aespa songs. I'll recommend some songs. Redvelvet - Bad Boy, Psycho, Red Flavor, Feel My Rhythm Aespa(all songs in order of release) - Black Mamba(debut song), Next Level, Savage, Girls, Welcome to My world, Spicy, Drama, Supernova, Amageddon Newjeans - Ditto, OMG, Hype Boy IVE - Love Dive, I AM, After LIke, Accendio These are songs that I like, so they may not suit your taste. Listen to some songs and if you don't like it, look for another groups. =============== When I watch other people's reaction videos, they don't get copyrighted even if they keep listening to music. Maybe if you talk a lot in the middle, you don't get caught. But I'm not sure. One of the reasons I watch reaction videos is to listen to songs together.
