Is it better to pull off the suckers prior to the plant fruiting or should you pull off suckers after the plant has fruited?

Hi, you really did say much about the ratoon, will a fruit come off it sooner? If i only left the ratoon would it do better then leaving a pup? Im glad you showed us one but what is it about?
@Sheikyerbouti8
@Sheikyerbouti8 4 дня назад
Rattoons are fine. I usually choose a sucker if there is a big healthy one, though. Suckers tend to be more vigorous at first. Always choose the biggest, fastest growing growth, though, whether it is a rattoon or a sucker.

Hi! So you can get it inside of home for like 3 months during winter and then get them in land outdoors if you buy the plant in september? Would that make sense? I live in zone 9
@Sheikyerbouti8
@Sheikyerbouti8 28 дней назад
I'm in zone 9b. You shouldn't have to mess with bringing it in. It's a pretty tough plant. Throw a sheet over it on frost nights if you're really worried about it, but where you are, the ground will never freeze, so it shopuld grow back from ther rhizome if it gets burned by frost. I'd either leave it in the ground all year, or leave it in a copntainer and bring it inside, but I wouldn't go back and forth. Another option would be to grow Lesser galangal (Alpinia officinarum) in a container instead. That plant is identical in flavor, but only gets 3 feet tall intsead of 8 or 9 feet.

Where can we buy your cherry trees ? How do we prevent the nematodes?😊
@Sheikyerbouti8
@Sheikyerbouti8 28 дней назад
To keep the nematodes at bay, keep a weed free circle around the tree. The nematodes breed in the roots of weeds. Keep a layer of much over the surface of the soil, nematodes hate that. You can buy the trees from my website. Here's a link buyraretropicalplants.com/product/barbados-cherry/

Hi Randy. So out of all the bananas that you grow, which is the most flavorful? I just bought one (Blue Java) today. How well do they grow in pots, and what size pot should I transplant it to? I was also wondering what months do they flower and harvest?
@Sheikyerbouti8
@Sheikyerbouti8 3 месяца назад
The best tatsing banana that I've ever grown is Dwarf Namwa. Tiny fruits, but SO delicious. ABB bananas like blue java get rather large. They are not the best choices for container growing bananas. The pot size depends on the size and age of the plant you have. Eventually it will need a rather large container if you want fruit. I'd say 20 gallons minimum. I've never actually gotten any edible fruit from any of my container specimens, personally, but getting my container specimens to fruit is never my goal, either. Unfortunately, bananas do not have a season. They bloom whenever they feel ready to. Harvest is aproximately four months after blooming.

How do I know if my banana tree is an ice cream banana or the other type? Is the ice cream tree typically taller? My tree is only about 6 feet tall
@Sheikyerbouti8
@Sheikyerbouti8 3 месяца назад
There are literally thousands of banana cultivars, but you are probably referring to namwa. You have to get your stock from a trusted source. If it is a namwa instead of the true blue java/ice cream, then you will still have delicious bananas. More delicious in my opinion. Either way you win, Cheers

The smell is pretty bad, but they only bloom once per year, the really pungent smell only lasts one day, and the flower only lasts three days. Mostly you'll just have a cool looking plant.

Feed them properly, also for A. paeoniifolius, don't let the larger tuber get crowded out by the many smaller ones that grow around it. I've never had any species I've grown, fail to bloom, eventually, but it can take time. Good luck!
