As an Egyptian working abroad, I miss life in Egypt very much. Egypt is vibrant and unlike any other country. The people of Egypt are good, they love and welcome the guest. If, God forbid, an accident happens in the street, you will find dozens of people gathering to help. They will not leave you alone.

I have thought about making a walking tour of downtown sometime, but I don't know that I would be talking much, I don't know too much history of the place, to be honest. But perhaps I will at some point in the future. A walking tour of downtown Cairo...not bad. I am actually about to start recording a video about some basic Egyptian Arabic words and phrases, since I have had quite a few requests for that since I came to Egypt. Is vegetarian food considered food for poor people who cannot afford meat in Egypt? And do you tip at a restaurant like this?
@Gventures
@Gventures Год назад
While eating vegetarian food is not considered food just for poor people, I do know eating meat is a luxury for the country's poorest. Everyone eats and loves koshery (and other vegetarian dishes like foul, falafel, mahshy, etc.), but some people may only be able to afford the cheapest food, which is typically vegetarian. Do you tip at a restaurant like this? No, you don't have to. I did and do, but they don't expect it.

@Gventures
@Gventures Год назад
😕I understand. We only do what we can. It's not only the animals living in terrible conditions, the city's poorest also live a very hard life. It is a very sad and cruel part of this world. But there are many good people who try to make things easier for the stray cats and dogs living on the streets here. I often see my neighbor spreading out a lot of guts (or something?) along the sidewalk for all the cats, and he feeds the dogs too. I feed them tuna or chicken or any leftover food I have as well. People do care here, there are just so many it is overwhelming and impossible to feed them all. And they do lead a hard life. It sucks.

@@rayfred7065 Uh.....there's plenty of homeless in NYC, I used to live there. Wouldn't say the US is the greatest country on earth, but maybe you haven't traveled to Europe much and seen what it's like there. Also plenty of people care about the animals here in Egypt, saying they (Egyptians) have to change themselves to fix the issue is a pretty ignorant statement to make, it's about money and resources and the government. The government doesn't have a program to sterilize the animals so they just keep having babies and thus there are more and more stray cats and dogs, the cycle continues. Plenty of Egyptians care for and feed the animals like I have already stated, but not one person or group can fix the entire cities issue, Cairo has a population of 25 million and even people and families live on the street here so of course there are animals on the street as well. There are charities and shelters but only so much they can do with the overwhelming numbers of animals and lack of government support
@Gventures
@Gventures Год назад
@@lisamiller4967 Well, I think at some point you might have to stop feeding them so you can go home and eat yourself 😅But I get what you are saying, and there are shelters and charities to help the animals, just not enough, sadly. Materialistic shit is a huge waste, not sure why you mentioned it when talking about animals, but I agree with you, that's why I travel the world with only a 40 liter backpack that holds everything I own in the world. I don't know if you've ever been to Egypt but I am thinking perhaps not, because the amount of stray cats is way too many to feed them all, many times when I am feeding them I have to prevent a brawl because I dump out some food for a few cats I see and suddenly 5 more show up and they begin to fight over it. It's a real issue out here. Homeless people living on the street too. I gave this kid my leftovers as I was leaving a restaurant one day, and as I was walking away I noticed him sharing some of the food with a little stray cat. That kid was gold.
