$10 Dirty Dell inspiron 530s Restoration 

Dude this is awesome! This was the first PC I ever had as a kid! This PC literally grew up with me! I still remember the pre installed Windows Vista and the awesome time I had on this rig. I really like the thin design of the case, and I’ve been recently reusing the case, tho everything inside was swapped out. I got an ASUS ROG M7G & 4790K in it, using the original optical bay for an EK SBAY reservoir, the original hard disk bay for a place to mount a DCC pump, the 80mm fan mount at the top for an 80mm radiator and underneath the side panel cut out I put a thin 120mm radiator and a 15mm thick noctua fan. Below the CPU I mounted a GTX 1070 mini vertically, screwed to the holder metal. Powering all this I bought a Seasonic 350TGM 80plus gold PSU. I also painted the case in red and black, for some awesome appearances. I’m starting to think about making a video like you did! :-)

Nice Deal :) I got lucky yesterday I got an old Acer Aspire with AMD Phenom II X4 810 , 12GB DDR3 , 250GB HDD, HD 4650 for just 25$ :) The Guy said it doesnt boot up, yeah thats true when you dont install Windows or Linux xD

Dell used two slightly different boards in those computers (and the Vostro 220 which was the business version). The G33M02 you have only supports Dual Cores. The G33M03 would accept either Dual or Quad cores. You have to look at the board model number next to the cpu socket to know which you have as you can't always tell by the Service Tag Number. I have both an 02 and an 03. I tried the "supposed" modified bios on my 02, but it still wouldn't boot a Quad which is unfortunate as the 03 performs exceptionally well with a Q9550. Edit: The G33M02 has a lower power regulation which only has 6 voltage regulators ICs as opposed to the G33M03 which has 11 voltage regulators; therefore, the motherboard doesn’t generate enough power for Quad Core CPUs

there are 2 variants of this board. G33M02 and G33M03 the former of which doesn't accept any quad core CPU's (it's a hardware limitation) otherwise they look exactly identical.

The Dell Inspiron 530 came with 2 different boards the G33M02 and the G33M03 by Foxconn whereas the 530s (the slimmer version) came only with the G33M02 and never with the G33M03. The G33M02 only supported dual cores or lower (Celeron/Pentium Dual-Core/Core 2 Duo) whereas the G33M03 supports quad cores and dual cores (it only came in computers with the quad cores shipped installed in the system when the system was brand new) Same for the Vostro 200 I believe as it is the same computer with a black case. You here have the 530S which never got the G33M03 board and hence it does not take quad cores. The reason being quad cores not being supported is that the board only has 6 voltage regulator ICs while the G33M03 has 11 and hence takes almost all processors made for LGA775. You can unofficially put a S series Core 2 Quad or a Xeon though,cannot confirm though as I neither have a Xeon/S series Core 2 Quad or a functional G33M02 (mine died to pin bend and breaking)

Check out an HD 7570 for these budget builds. I know socket sanctuary reviewed it on one of his showdowns and it's a really good price to Performance in my experience.

I got one of those from a yard sale dirt cheap found the issue right off it booted fine a few times then started the amber glow thing come down to bad psu caps swollen rob a psu from another gray and blk dell slap in worked great for few years now it come with stock 3d card think 2600 or 2800 pro gaming on it was smooth the dvd drive was damaged but worked pulled it out put screen in place for cooling win 10 runs well on it

When it comes to smokers computers I like to take them apart and run them through the dish washer. The computer will be fine as long as you remove all power from it such as the cmos battery, and make sure it has plenty of time to completly dry out.

I picked up an Inspiron 531 the other week only to find the bios was corrupted. It had the Athlon 64 x 2 @ 2.0 ghz. Took it out and replaced with a Gigabyte ga-g31m and a core 2 quad running @ 2.33ghz, 4 gb ram, 320gb hd, 120 gb ssd, gtx 550ti and a 500 psu with an rgb green fan on the front facia.

look up the site "bios mods" they are the place to go for modded bios files. updating the bios on that rig would allow you to use an q6600 on it as well, as some of the older Dells wont do it til you do the update.

These are great little systems, but a word of advice to anybody who wants to refurbish/use one. Change that Delta CPU fan! It is not unknown that Delta make good products, especially fans. But for some reason those particular 80mm fans really drone, and the motherboards in these systems doesn't seem to keep them much below 1500 RPM. Changing to something OEM like Nidec of AVC, or even going aftermarket makes a huge difference.

Dont worry. Nearly every power supply in the world will have bleeder resistors on the caps. To make super sure you can just shortnthe terminals for the caps on the underside ofmthe board. For triple ultra safety you csn check them with a meter.

$10? Doesn't get much better than that. I'm in the market for a 2nd gen i7 optiplex right now for under $100. A couple have slipped away from me already.

Would also recommend lubing up old fans too. I squirt a bunch of wd40 in every which way. Has saved half a dozen fans for a couple more years that were clogged/noisy.

Holy grime! Nice finished product. It does stink for a while though with the spray cleaners!

Were you able to get the cig smoke smell out of this? I do some computer work on the side, and I had a guy get pissed at me once because he smoked in his house, and his PC was shutting down. He didn't like the price I was going to charge to clean it... But Best Buy wouldn't touch it. It was only a couple of years old. Dude must have chain smoked and lit one cig from the last cig... It was nasty. I have to say, I like that top plate on the CPU cooler. Lets you get some color on there!

Both the Q6600 and E8400 have different fsb speeds! But speaking of which, before too long I am going to have a yard sale or hit ebay to rid myself of my growing stack of socket 775 extras! The moment Kabylake hit retail I upgraded! So I still have 2, 8gb ddr3 dual channel sets, one kingston PC3-10600 which should be 1333mhz and one Gskill which is 1066, as well as another 4gb dimm of gskill which is 1333, all the gskill still sit in original packaging, an extra X3350 and Q9400!

Yep, you got the older version of this motherboard that does not accept quad core. I ran into this problem several times cleaning and upgrading these models in years past.

It has much more potential if you make a mod of xeon 771 x5460 or x5470 you will be able to pass it to 4 cores, it is done by modifying the original bios by inserting the microcodes of the xeon 771 in the bios, then you put a kingston sata ssd hard drive and the operation of the windows will be much more fluid and with a low profile gtx750 graphic, it looks great

I still have my 530s cause I got it for free from my aunt when I was younger. Its one of my first computers so im never getting rid of it and from time to time I turn it on to get that class Vista Experience... and yes Vista is just as nostalgic to me as Windows XP is.

Great job...if this video had a scratch and sniff, you could definitely smell the smoke, lol. You really took your time, great stuff. I recently upgraded a 530s from 2.5ghz to a 3.3ghz E8600 with 4gb ram, not too bad.

There were 2 motherboards on the Inspiron 530. If it came with celeron, Pentium, or core 2 Duo then you cant upgrade to a quad chip. If it came with core 2 quad then you can upgrade to a faster quad like the q6600.

great restoration! I came across a unit like that and wound up blowing the PSU because I washed the board with hot water and didn't wait long enough to let it dry out.... I hate it when people don't take care of their stuff and we have to do a complete rebuild.... I like the orange accent.... very nice! did you ever sell it?

I wash my electronics with warm water and a mild soap. Beforehand I remove any heatsink off the fets and chipsets etc... Let dry for a couple days. All is like brand new.

Good video and Thank You for once again sharing with us. That was a nasty beast you had to clean, but you did your usual excellent job of cleaning then painting - LOL. On some of my older Dell and HP Desktop machine _finds_ I simply remove their jumper completely. You mentioned the E8400? It's been a long time ago, but I may have used the old black tape trick on the CPU to increase the speed? Like I said, it's been awhile, but it may work?? I'll bet that every part you clean extends the lifespan due to the fact you eliminate heat dissipation problems and you lighten the stress load by removing _gunk_ from moving parts such as fans. You said you have a Windows problem? I recently discovered a FREE software that can help with problems such as yours? This software has been around for a longtime, but I _just_ discovered it and I'm glad I did. On my other computer I burned it to CD and it saved me from losing a Windows 7 install that suffered from a nightly update that caused a catastrophic failure. I inserted the CD > Rebooted > Accessed their menu > Found a program that worked > Restarted > SAVED CD for later. Lazesoft even supports Windows XP and of course newer Windows along with them offering other types of software. Is it safe to use the brake cleaner on the motherboard or any parts of the computer?

I have an inspiron 530s with the G33M02 motherboard I plan to buy two seagate constellation 1TB hard drives four 1GB ram made by samsung a 400W power supply would there be any issues here ? And I also want a good graphics card and am wondering with the upgraded power supply will I be able to run a high end graphics card ?

I would check if the motherboard supports a quad, seem like certain models support it while others only support duo core - www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General/Inspiron-530-Motherboard/td-p/3462964 A cheap Q6600 would be nice if possible. Btw I have no idea how you managed 5gb ram, says it only goes to 4gb max, some reported being able to install up to 8gb ram but with issues later on.

so im trying to update the bios on this rig via usb, i used rufus it wouldn't let me use msdos as a boot selection. so i selected freedos, and everytime i boot into freedos i execute the bios update and the wizard pops up tells me insufficient memory.. any idea ? the bios reads the e8400 but sends my o/s into a loop (factory cpu now, and 2 dims of 2gb kingstons)

I have one of these PCs and it won't turn on... It had a little problem that when I turned it on it won't start but the fan kept spinning and it beeped I removed one of the RAMs and it ran good now it won't turn on at all.

I had this exact pc from 2008 to 2015, and not a single time, ever, did any game run as smoothly as he got MW2 to run on it. I don't know why but I'm really angry about that.

i got a this same computor i have cleaned it but havent added anything to it, it doent have a graphics card and the specs are 6gb ram and core 2 duo 2.94 ghz and it can run no games.
