Luke, I just happened to look at your subscriber numbers and I have to say that it's really cool how far you've come. I started watching you around 2013/2014, around the time I started getting into backpacking. Now you're over 600k, and you still haven't taken sponsorships. I can't say that's rare because "rare" implies that it happens occassionally...and you're the only product reviewer of any kind that I've Ever seen that doesn't take anything from companies. Congrats on the well-deserved success and thanks for being entirely consistent for over a decade.

Hey Luke! Quick tip for using inflation bags. Instead of rolling all the way, just roll a couple of times to stop air from escaping, then wrap one arm around the bottom neck of the inflation bag like a head lock, and lift it off the ground slightly (so you aren't pushing directly into the ground). Then use the other hand to push the air down into the pad from the top! This will push through a large amount of air with minimal effort. Once you've pushed most of the air, unroll, reinflate and repeat. I've inflated pads very fast with this method, super convenient!

I bought this pad a few months ago and have used it 3 times in low temps ranging from 28* to 41* F in Washington State. I used it with a Zinbivy sheet and quilt, and I slept comfortably and warm all 3 nights inside the OneTigris Stella tent. I was a bit skeptical when it first arrived, because the pad seemed loud compared to others I’ve used, but this hasn’t been an issue for me. I think the Zinbivy sheet helps reduce the noise a lot. When I hold the pad up to light, I can see several shiny marks where it looks like the aluminum layers inside are showing through the nylon fabric. It’s hard to describe, but it looks like pieces of the aluminum have “rubbed off” onto the nylon from inside. These might be points where the aluminum is glued to the nylon to keep the internal layers in place, and I’m hoping it doesn’t indicate any potential problems. So far it’s been a great pad, and for $79 I think it’s a fantastic deal. All pads eventually fail, but I’m hoping to get many trips out of this. Also, I don’t like using the inflation bag at all. I plan on buying a small pump like the Flextail. Can you do a review on a few pumps, Luke?
@azclaimjumper
@azclaimjumper 4 месяца назад
The Sleeping bag material is 20D on both sides whereas the ground side of my XTherm is 70D. 70D vs 20D ground side is a deal breaker for me if I didn't already have the XTherm. The much lower price will attract a lot of buyers. Only time will tell if the OneTigris Sleeping bag is sufficiently resistant to leaks/punctures.

Please, Please let us know the results of your real life outdoor usage. I'm wondering if it will stay inflated all night. The 20D ground side fabric seems like it will be prone to punctures. The XTherm ground side material is 70D. Warm Regards from far away Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.

I have a Nemo and an Exped in the same denier 20D. I have only used them a few times, but as long as you take a bit of extra care with the pad, (no throwing it on sharp roots, rocks, and making sure you have taken off your pocketknife and put away your spork and not leave it in your pockets), I think it would be reasonably durable IN a tent. Also the face fabric here is nylon, so it is a bit tougher than a 20D polyester.

I'm also very excited for the full review of this sleeping pad. I have one and have used it in moderately cold weather conditions (30's) and it has been great for me. That pump sack is very heavy (Luke pointed out, its basically a dry bag) but I use an electric air pump/light combo so it's not an issue. There is nothing out there at this price point that compares with this pad and I can't wait for TOGR to give it a no nonsense full review!!

When I was a teenager in the early 70s I used a 1/2” “insulite” pad (closed foam) and a space blanket (metalized Mylar)spread underneath I slept on ice and snow and felt perfectly warm. We of course didn’t have the choices we have today.

That looks REALLY familiar. I suspect that might be rebadged Light Tour 5.8R that a lot of us have been using - and I reviewed on my channel? Or the Naturehike R5 one they've been touting. Looks like a way better pump bag though. BTW the moisture thing is a myth. Gear Skeptic did a long video about the science about how mould won't grow (no-one has proof of actual mould inside, the ones that have cut open their mats have found the spots are actually mylar flaking off) and how actually warm or moist air would help insulation, not hinder it. Or it condenses back to water, so doesn't bridge the air gap. Even freezing - which it won't for long as your body warms it up - I doubt it'd affect the insulation. In fact ice is also a surprisingly good insulator - it's how igloos work?
@Xeno-M.

Interesting theory about blowing into mats. Makes me feel less guilty for topping off my mats on occasion with a few direct breaths !! The inflation bags were ripped off in design from Exped. Not sure about any comparison to the pad you mentioned, but I would not be surprised if One Tigris ripped off the mat design as well.

@@Xeno-M. Look on my channel, I did a video featuring that mattres, or google 'Naturehike 5R' - which this looks a lot like, or 'Light Tour 5.8R' - or Windhike/Naturehike/Flame's Creed 5.8R' which similarly looks lke this except silver....I am wondering if this is made by the same place that did the Light Tour which was allegedly from the manufacturer of Vaude's mattresses (hence the official cert most Chinese brands do not bother with independent ASTM ratings, maybe it was a mattress Vaude passed on)...

@Xeno-M.
@Xeno-M. 5 месяцев назад
I have seen reviews of the Nemo pad you mentioned. It really would not compare to this pad for a couple of reasons. First , an 8.5 vs 5.4 R value is a HUGE difference between them, giving an unfair advantage to the Nemo Extreme. Second, the Nemo is WAYYyy lighter than the One Tigris, albeit Nemo achieves this low weight by making the pad Small. (19ish in wide vs 24 in for the One Tigris.) But on stats alone the Nemo wins hands down. Price difference is a Huge win for One Tigris though. So it really depends on use case, budget, and what you are, or are Not willing to carry.

Luke, I believe the way to use the inflation bad is to roll the opening a few times and then buckle that end together with the supplied buckles. This is just like how a dry bag is closed. Then the bag can be placed on the ground and you can kneel or sit on it to force air from the bag and into the pad. This method is less efficient than just rolling it up all the way because there will still be more air left in the bag after pressing the air out of the bag, but it simply uses your body weight to do all of the work.

But I had a high end air mattress fail on me on a long trip so no matter the weight and bulk I'll always lug a dense foam mattress with me. The exception would be an Exped which has foam in it and having owned one I trust it. It's still a lot more bulky and heavier than an air mattress.

You should test the Naturehike R5.8 winter pad. Very warm down to 0°F as a standalone or add a closed-cell foam pad below 0°F for a total of R7.8. But you will only need that setup in Alaska, Antarctica or climbing above 6,000m. For only $85, it's the "Xtherm killer".

I use an Exped Schnozzel pump bag in my kit. It's a pack liner / dry bag that doubles as a pump sack. It looks very similar to what is included with the OneTigris set up. I wonder if that's the intention? I store my quilt, pad, clothing, etc in the bag and roll it down tight. I use this as my pack liner instead of something like a trash compactor or nylofume bag. That would save a tiny bit of weight by eliminating the storage sack and the elastic straps and it would be dual purpose.

Back in the 70"s we used 1/4 inch thick closed cell foam pads. I can't say that I ever suffered even at minus 20 F. Before the closed foam pad we had inflatables that were close to useless. Not bragging, just saying. We did not know any better. Closed cell foam was a big leap forward. Fast forward 50 years and we are back to inflatables that say they insolate.
@Xeno-M.
@Xeno-M. 5 месяцев назад
Actually if it is that cold out, many backpackers Still use closed cell foam pads to augment the R-value of the inflatables (the inflatable pad’s cover fabric can get cold in extreme temps due to a principle called “cold soaking”.) Also just in case you Do get a leak overnight you don’t end up sleeping on the ground if you carry that backup foam pad, so the tech has changed, and yet still has not.

Forearm burn: I remember that you work out to keep in shape. Even at my best, I would prefer to use a battery-powered blower that also includes a light. It is never ideal to use the breath to inflate anything. Bacteria as well as moisture is introduced to the pad.

Thanks for your great videos again, Luke. I wonder if you ever tried the Exped Dura 8R sleeping mat (or the old versions called Downmats). These mats are filled with down and they are really great. I bought my first one more than 10 years ago (ultra light version, still ok) and bought the new Dura 8R last year. I love them both. Regarding the inflation bag, it looks like OneTigris is kind of copying the Exped inflation bag, which looks quite similar, but is lighter and more flexible, which makes it easier to fill it with air and press it into the sleeping mat. As far as I can see (and hear) the Exped Dura 8R also doesn't make that much noise. Maybe you'd like to test it one day. Highly recommended.

IMO, it is never a good idea to use your breath to inflate camp items. The moisture intruduced into the item gets trapped and becomes a mold and bacteria garden. Not to mention the freezing effect you mentioned. I love the large inflation bag this pad comes with. You can use your weight to force the air into the mattress, making it less of a chore to inflate. The inflation bag can be used to inflate other inflatables as well and could be used for temporary storage and/ or a pillow. Looks to be a good piece of kit. Thanks for sharing.

Concerning weight limit , i feel like that is relative to how much air you inflate into it. For example if you dont put any air into it , I'm guessing it could hold infinite weight. Now , on the flipside , fully inflated I'm sure there's a limit. I'm guessing most people don't use a pad that way. Me personally, I inflate the thing to max , then lie down and use the valve to adjust the air out until I'm comfortable. But I'm thick , so maybe normal sized people sleep with it fully infiated .

I just got the Gear Doctors Apollo Air Ultralight. Some great reviews of it saying it is warm as the high R value claimed, and it is only 17 oz. Might need to review it yourself? Thanks for sharing these with we the multitudes...

My guess is that the buckles on the inflation sack are so it can double as a dry bag.

Hey Luke have you used this mat yet? Can you give an interim update while we wait for your full review? Im in need of a new mat soon and this one might be the one but its hard to find good reviews on it. Thank you for all the work that you do!

Two points I'm sure I have seen you blowing air into a mat from your mouth in your videos. But could be wrong. I would say the clips on the inflation bag are so you can twist and fasten them together, as you say like a dry bag, and then just sit on it to blow the air in, rather than pressing the bag with your hands. Good review matey

First, you are not delusional. Yes, Luke has Wayyy too often mouth blown up his X Therm dozens of times !! One other reviewer stated that you can also use the clips on the inflation bag as a dry bag for a pillow , sleeping clothes, or sleeping bag or liner.

I have a different brand that has the clips on the inflation bag and it doubles as a dry bag so id say it's the same with this one.
