At least have a plan. I def could NOT afford my university, but I graduated and make double what I used to recently. I had a lot of debt but I could probably pay it off in Q1 2021.

His degree most definitely did not cost that much. He accepted the FULL amount which generally 2/3 of the amount more than covers stuff aside from tuition.

Rachel Hubbard yeah WVU costs $25,000 a year out of state now. If he’s 35, even if he just graduated and took out cost of living, I’m just not sure how he took out that much.

@Johnny Five To say that people can't be successful in today's society is completely false. Is it harder? Maybe. The key is that people have to stop wasting their on useless college degrees. You can go into HVAC and make north of $100k/yr. I'm sorry, a degree in exercise science isn't worth it, at least not in this caller's example. He would make more money working as a fast food manager. Something isn't adding up.

@@chindomnic8828 yes because after 12 years of public indoctrination, multiple lessons where they say 'working hard' is for chumps and skilled labor is equivalent to being a garbage man, you have to go to college, said over and over and over. All taking place in a setting that is not teaching you to critically think for yourself, you can and do actually get punished if you think for yourself and come up with ideas that even seem to contradict a strict adherence to the lesson plan. but most people do not care, bc at the end of the day, its just daycare! For parents to stupid, self obsessed, or indebted to take care of their own children. Maybe start asking who really benefits from all this??

He has to be working for a gym because my PT friends charge anywhere from 30-70 a session just depending on the package. And this is in AZ. My mom was paying 40/session at LA Fitness until she found out the trainer got $6 of that....$6!! So she quit because it wasnt fair to the trainer. Private training is the way to go for this guy

@@kimnevils252 Yes. It's unfortunate but very common in NYC. It's an expensive city and our generation were really told you MUST attend college by any means. School debt was always called "good debt" by parents and older workers you might get advice from. You were made fun of or looked down on if you didn't attend college in my world.

This guy just told my whole life story, same age, same debt same degree BUT I have a master's w/that student debt. But my dad taught me well about working hard (was raised on a farm) so while I was in school I worked a night job, as soon as I was done with school I worked 3 jobs from 6am to 10pm eating nothing, driving a trash car, using the oldest phone in the world, no internet, no kids, no social life & I'm already debt free with more than 165k my bank account and even more in my retirement. So it is do able you just have to SACRIFICE your social life and having the newest things...oh and dont have kids

You read that correctly. If you make $29k a year you are a top 16 percenter. This young man will be able to pay off this debt and be on his way to becoming a millionaire in no time.

This. ^^ I have no college education and make 110k / year working for a natural gas utility. There's some great jobs out there, but much of society vilifies blue collar jobs which discourages people from pursuing some legitimately great jobs. Such a shame - this guy is going to be broke his whole life.

This is so sad. I was a personal trainer, took a course, got certified and worked side by side with an experienced trainer to learn more about fitness and nutrition. The cost was less than $250 to get certified at the time. It took time to build up my clientele, but I made decent money and wasn't strapped with student loan debt. Good luck to this guy.

I went to college with people like this. They took/maxed-out every student loan available to them along with every credit card to live big while going to school with the attitude of I'll pay in back when I get out and get a "good" job. After they graduated, reality hits them in the face, they call people like Dave wanting sympathy or end up doing something illegal. I don't blame the government for all the student loan dept -- I blame the people who took them out with no realistic idea of how to ever pay them off.

There should be a federal law the requires all college majors to print out a piece of paper that says 1) what the loan is, 2) what the payments are, 3) what the expected income is, and 4) an overview of the general risk they are taking (e.g. high, medium, low).

As someone who teaches in colleges and requires my students to do this exact assignment, it won't work bc they won't listen. I had a student tell me the other day she will make 90k as a preschool teacher when she graduates. I said stop looking at the top 1% of preschool teachers out in NYC somewhere and look what entry level locals make. She wouldn't listen to me at all. Just rolled her eyes like I knew nothing at all.

It's really sad no one told him he can be a trainer without this degree. This is where parents and experienced workers failed millennials. It was really shoved down our throats to attend college no matter what. Many walk away with a salary not worth what we paid to get the degree. I know so many New Yorkers with his same story. No guidance just attend school and get a degree. Sad. Those numbers are sad.

I agree. In high school, teachers and councilors all encouraged us to go because it was "good debt," and we'd earn more in the long run. It was really terrible advice because they didn't realize how much the world had changed from their time as young adults.

It happen to me too. 60k for an arts degree. I’m working on getting my income up but it’s hard. Things gonna turn around though, I’ve got many pots on the burner. It’s been a long journey. So tired.

untouchable360x Thought about that too. The degree is not worth it. No guidance is needed. Here’s the blueprint. 1) Read the NASM BOOK 2) Read books on sales 3)Walk in to the busiest gym and demand an interview 4)build your clients 5)take those clients and train them on the side 6) repeat 4 & 5.

What’s sad is that he could’ve gone straight through ACE and earned a certificate for $1299. Then simply taken the exam. Probably would not have been more than $2K total.

My uncle was a head personal trainer at the bliss gym in W hotel NYC, he would work from 6 am to 11 am and be done for the day. Charge 200 an hour and he would make over 100k a year. Not an easy route but wanted to share. Good luck !

This video definitely hit home. I made a dumb move getting a MSW to enter the Social Work field. The pay was less than 40K, workload...heavy, workplace...toxic, and opportunities limited in settings which paid higher wages. Lesson to young adults: Please do NOT go into the Social Work field and AVOID student loan debt. Select an inexpensive degree which will teach you a skill (Health care, Education, and etc.) Or Trade School (Automotive Repair, Cosmetology, Carpentry, Dental Hygienist). You can open your own business or do contract work on the side if you have a skill and will NOT have student loan debt.

I got my MSW, became licensed and make over 50k! I am almost debt free as well. I know the work load can be heavy in some agencies but there are good areas. I previously worked making over 60k out of grad school in Louisiana. It is possible! Best of luck to you!

@@PokeZamJam Congratulations on almost being debt free. I worked as a Social Worker in Chicago. The only ones I know who made over $50k, were the LCSW'S, Social Workers who were supervisors, or the ones who were lucky enough to get hired by the state.

Exercise Science degree here! It’s true, not a whole lot outside of personal training. You can go for Physical Therapy which requires 6 figure investment and a Doctoral. I’m an exercise physiologist currently, don’t make much, but in a program now to become a cardiac medical device specialist. Just gotta improvise, keep your head down and feet movin! 💯

Don't blame the school, or government loan agency...blame the one who took out the loan and now doesn't have the means to pay it back. The degree is only a tool (many people with those degrees are making 6-figures (working for professional athletes, colleges/pro-teams, etc) and not a guarantee of anything. He signed up for the money -- he took the money -- he should stop crying about paying it back.

The issue is that employers want that piece of paper. You can teach yourself coding and be excellent at it, but if you don't have piece of paper, your application will go directly to the trash.

There is always a way to start something at night to build up a new revenue stream over time A friend of mine in the fitness world with not much background on social media was able to use the spare time during the lockdown to find moms at home that need help working out so she started doing sessions on zoom and was able to make an extra $1500 since the first of the month all it took was her making some calls and asking people and doing a free class online to get the people to see if it’s for them

A lot resonated with me in this call. I got my Bachelors in Social Work and have almost a decade of experience. Now I have my Master's in counseling and haven't been able to get back into the counseling field yet. But I'm only making around 30,000 even though I have all this experience. It's very frustrating.

We graduated with student loan debt after medical and dental school, and our primary goal was to attack down our loans as fast as possible. During training we invested in Roth IRA and contributions to 401K, working in the side we where able to pay a large portion each month to student loans and knock down our Principle. Right now may be a great time to refinance student loans or even call your servicer and make sure the CARES act was implemented for federal student loans or call and discuss option on private loans! Get them out of the way!! That’s a true investment in the long run!

Personally I think my man took student loans on 10 different majors in college before he decided to be a trainer because it doesn’t add up or make sense I have a friend of mine who is a trainer you can get certified to be a trainer in less than a year all you need is a CPR certification and a couple of course in a community college that would cost you 6K tops and then take the exam that they require, he’s not being fully honest, Law school graduates finish school with an average student loan debt of 150000

I got my Exercise Science degree to get into a Physical Therapy program. During the end of my undergraduate education, they changed the requirement of education from Master to Doctorate. It went from $50k to $100k extra overnight. I was already too far in to switch. Stuck it out and decided not to go into a DPT program. Got my MBA instead and couldn't be happier. MBAs pay out (at this moment in time) 2x fold in the first few years of working. $30k to $50k for education will net you a $75k to $100k job off the bat.
