Thanks for the review, I bought an Aonijie C9111 on the strength of this video and I've got to say your comments are spot on. Thanks. @7:21 I find if you loosen the shoulder straps the pack will fall backwards allowing you to access the bottles stored in the side pockets, once you have taken a drink and returned the bottle simply tighten the shoulder straps.
@OutdoorOtaku

I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Oo thats a good idea! I dont use the side pockets for water, but that'd still be handy when reaching for items. HOWEVER, I snipped the straps short so i cant really loosen the shoulder straps a lot lol. My next video will be on mods for the c9111 and that was one of them. Ill be sure to mention this as a potential downside for snipping the straps!

Apart from being one of the very few videos on this backpack (which I have been observing for months), this review is really very well done, better than other famous youtubers who tend more to promote a product (perhaps with personal interest...) rather than showing its true features and functionality, strengths and weaknesses applied in a real world context. Really congratulations, I hope you can continue this activity because the level of detail is already very high. I take this opportunity to ask you a couple of things (before deciding whether to buy this backpack): 1) With what weight (approximately) did you use your backpack during fastpacking? Have you experienced any bouncing during the running phases? (or within what weight limit do you think the backpack starts to bounce?) 2) Do you think that the bungee compression cords are easily removable and replacable with static cords? (which in my opinion would have a better effect in stabilizing the loads and reducing eventual bouncing effects) Thanks in advance, cheers from Italy!
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku Год назад
Thank you! That means a lot! One of the main reasons i started making reviews was to cover not so popular items but also due to the lack of in depth videos I see online. Im glad you noticed and can appreciate that. More reviews soon to come!! For you questions- 1. 16-18 lbs total weight (base weight + consumables). There is some bounce, but very minimal and better than any other similar pack i've tried. It's impossible to eliminate all bounce, but I think the Aonijie handles it the best. I use this bag on daily runs as well with 12lbs. Sometimes (depending on terrain) the bag feels like its floating on my shoulders. Whenever i test another bag and come back to the Aonijie, it brings a smile on my face. i'd say my max would be 20lbs (total weight). However that's not necessary the max of the bag, just my personal max. Depending on speed, terrain, distance, and body build someone may be able to carry heavier. Or vice versa. Thanks for bringing this up. Weight limits are very important and i should start addressing it in my vids. 2. YES! Honestly i dont know why i didnt think of this. I do prefer static as well, however i guess i've just been too lazy or unimaginative to do anything. It will be very easy to replace. You just need to loop in the static cord through the attachment holes. all of the holes are easily accessible. This actually gives me a good idea for a new video.... "Aonijie C9111 Mods". I have a few other mods i plan to do. let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

Here's a pic of the bungee compression cord attachment points. imgur.com/a/lgwsXcU One is where my fingers are, the other is next to the zipper at the bottom of the picture (top of the pack). Both easily accessible.

Hi, a very good review video indeed! I just pulled the trigger on the Aonijie based on your review. I am also looking at immediately replacing the bungee with static cord as well as replacing the rolltop velcro with two snaps. What mods do you have in mind (or should I just wait for a video)?
@lincomatic

@@OutdoorOtaku may I ask what you're carrying on your daily runs that adds up to 12lbs? I usually try to carry as light a load as possible when doing trail runs. Just wondering what I'm missing...
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku 10 месяцев назад
Thank you! Two snaps is a good idea for a replacement over the velcro. hate getting my clothes caught on the velcro... Other than the ones you mentioned: Remove the side vertical compression straps that connect to the top of the roll top opening. Replace it with a Y strap on top. This way i can attach things to the top of the pack with the y strap. i also dont like the using side compression straps in order to compress the bag vertically. it can mess up the shape sometimes. Remove side access zipper. Save some weight and also decreases risk of failure. Add an elastic pocket on the bottom of the pack. Remove the large zipper pocket on the back of the pack. I never use it. Remove water bladder pouch, attachment point. I never use it Maybe remove the side water bottle pockets. I dont use them to hold water, I dont like to put too much stuff in them, and i cant reach them anyways when the pack is on my back. Unfortunately i wont be able to make a video on it until a few months. In the process of moving. @@RaZe421

This is a proper gear review! I appreciate so much how thorough and clearly you showed all the details of the bag. I wasn't even looking at this particular bag but it has most of the things I am looking for in a day pack. Not sure about all the pockets on the front of the bag stylistically or how comfortable that design would be for women but I am going to look more into it. Thank you!

Thank you for the kind words! The front pockets may not look the most stylish, but i use them all! That's a good question that i wish i could address. Thanks for the very detailed, unbiased review. It's great how you drill down into minute details, and even show specific usages of the various features (which I often can't figure out, due to lack of instructions). A breath of fresh air among RU-vid product. I have been buying Aonijie gear, and over the years they keep getting better and better. To the point that instead of just being cheap copycat gear that they are superior to the big name brands in various ways. I will definitely be picking up one of these packs. Keep up the good work!

Very good review thank you very much 🙏 Lastly, I have searched for Fastpacking bags and have found none that suits my needs as well as the Ultimate Direction, but I have not bought it yet because It is a bit expensive and I need to invest in some other gear. I really don't leave lots of comments, but this time it was needed, because of your attention to the details and the way you compared both backpacks at the beginning. You also did a fantastic job weighting everything and giving if for different measurement systems (most reviews lack that). The one thing that is missing for me, although I get why it is (because of weight and structure probably) is a full zip that would allow opening the bag like a suitcase. Again thank you, wish I could give you more than one thumbs up 👍👍👍👍👍

I wIll definitely will be getting one. I have been looking for the right pack for 3 years. I have UD and length of front panels is too long even on small size. I have older version so no waist strap. No matter how I adjust the straps, I can’t get the pack to sit higher and bottom hits my butt even if straps are cinched to the max. I run / hike with bear spray so front pockets are a must. I also like side bottom back pockets for water bottle for my dog. I am used to running vests with front panel pockets and want backpack to have them. UD panels width at the top where it sits on a shoulders, is too narrow for comfort and it makes my shoulders ache. Thank you for fast, to the point reviews they are great format.

A very useful and insightful review, thank you! I have a 1st generation UD Fastpack 30 that I've used quite a bit, and am looking to replace it. You didn't mention any comparison of the bag fabrics between the 2 brands, especially as to if they are coated and potentially waterproof (I know that the bag isn't seam-sealed or taped, so not actually waterproof, but it could become so if the fabric is coated.

One thing I would like to know that I may have missed is: How much weight do you think you could pack in the c9111 and still run without it swinging/swaying significantly? It seems that many packs are designed to either hike slow with lots of weight or go fast with SUL setups. I am somewhere in the middle with 10-15 min/mi run times, lots of technical trails and tons of vert here in northern AZ. I like to run fast when it flattens and smooths out, but also don't have the lightest setup when winter sets in. Thanks so much OO.

Dude, I mean COME ON. Been looking for that for ages. Thanks. Been using the UD 40l on Marathon des Sables (Brand new and stiff) and I can confirm it can be uncomfy with hard flask and 10kg. Used the OMM 32classic in Atacama plus frontpack but alas it's been ripped to pieces by a doggo. Now here we go for Jordan Race 250k I need 20-30l running pack. So its either this or UD 20l or Instinct 24l. BD 22l distance was actually not just uncomfy but plain useless due to bouncing.

@@midwaybrumenbridge it looks interesting. I wonder how well the "embrace system" really works. Not bad for the price, even shipped to the US. however there are some features i dislike (personal preferences). With such a small torso length, they should have made the hip belt attached to the shoulder straps to be continuous. IMO this is more comfortable that having it separate. It'll save weight and be easier to take on and off since its one less buckle to deal with. I dont like zippers on hip belts that ride high up on your torso. I'd rather prefer a stretch pocket. Im also not a fan of the sliding tube chest buckle system. I've found it to be uncomfortable on the UD packs and some osprey pack. Lastly, i wish they had a large stretch mesh pocket on the back of the pack. with all that said, i'm still interested and down to try it. But i still have some other packs to review and need to sell the ones i dont use.

Fantastic review of something I didn't even know that I wanted! Quick question: I've done the Presi Traverse and also the Pemi Loop (twice), but I've just used an Ultimate Direction running vest (11-liters?) rather than a backpack. It seemed to carry enough (I used a Katadyn BeFree on one of the shoulder strap water bottles for refilling). So my question is, what did you carry that made you want a backpack rather than a vest? Also, thanks for bringing my attention to the Presicat Loop!

Thank you John for the kind words! Ayyy my favorite trails! Good for you. Maybe I'll see you in the White's some time ;) The Aonijie C9111 with the 30ls is overkill for a fair weather day hike. Even for the presicat, which was one of the longest single days i had. The reason i used it was because: - it's my most comfy pack - it holds my favorite water bottles (raidlight r-go bottles) - training for winter hiking - training for fast packing I packed it with my winter hiking stuff to get it full (sleeping pad, puffy, down pants, emergency shelter, etc). I did the Presi with my Salomon adv 12. It weighed around 12 lbs, about half of that was water (2.5l). My shoulders did get a bit sore. Also taking things in and out of that pack sucks My shoulders / upper body in general was perfectly fine after the presicat with the Aonijie. Even if my pack weight or volume is low, i'd still stick with the Aonijie c9111. Comfy is comfy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Question: I just saw Aonijie also makes an 18L running vest pack, similar to the Ultimate Direction Adventure Vest (17L) and Ultimate Direction Adventure Vesta (16.5L). Have you tried it, and if so, how does it compare?
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku 5 месяцев назад
My pleasure, thank you for the kind words!! Yes! I have tried it. I sold it. In my opinion the straps were too thin, pack material too thin, it was not comfortable, and didnt ride well. IMO, packs 12L+ need decent straps in order to handle to heavier weights. My criteria for "decent straps" are static, slightly cushioned, and wide. Packs like the aonijie 18l, BD distance 22, jungle king 30l, raidlight revolutiv all suffer by lacking one or more of those criteria. I dont know how it compared to the UD packs. But as it's own, it doesnt perform well. the Aonijie 20l running pack may be worth considering. I have not tried it, but it definitely seems more substantial than the 18l.
@leigha6275
@leigha6275 5 месяцев назад
@@OutdoorOtakuThank you for sharing your experience with the 18L Aonijie. The UD Adventure Vest would be more comfortable by those criteria - wider straps, static webbing straps in the right places, etc. though it uses a lightweight, thin nylon for the pack fabric and doesn't have substantial padding - I wouldn't think of carrying heavier weights with it - I don't think it's made for that. More like a vest for a long run or run/hike where you'd want space for more water, a light windbreaker and rain jacket, snacks, etc. It's very stable fully loaded.

Great review,i was looking at this and the 20l version. I don't really do fastpacking, I'm looking more at a day pack that i can also occasionally use for running or whatever. I like the looks of the 20l and i would really want to get it over the 30l because of a bit more hipbelt fabric that it has. I've had a backpack in the past with a thin strap like that as a hipbelt and didn't like it, although this backpack has a different carrying system altogether. So what do you think about it's weight bearing ability? Does it rest too much on your shoulders or not? I also wanted to get the 20l one because i already have a 40l backpack,so 30l isn't much of downsizing from that. Thanks for a great review btw.
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku 10 месяцев назад
Well since it doesnt have a weight supporting hip belt, all of the weight is on my shoulders and spread around my chest. My max is about 18 lbs for running. You can push it to higher if you are just hiking. Also depends on your personal ability of course. Having a weight supporting hip belt on a running pack doesnt make much sense for me personally. I tried the ultraspire epic xt which had one. it was not comfortable. the Aonijie is comfortable enough to support the weights i want it to without a hip belt. the hip belt on the 20L version will NOT transfer weight to your hips. its more of a belly belt not a hip belt. It's only purpose is for storage and help prevent some sway. It looks like a decent hiking day pack. But im not interested in it for my use case.

I just realized that the UD 30 has an extra side zip pocket that is on the opposite side of the large side access zipper. Here is a picture: imgur.com/a/1OJ7VBH It's small and can't be accessed with the pack on your back (at least for me). Putting anything in it will be difficult with a fully packed bag because whatever item you put in that pocket will have to compress/move around the items already in your pack. Probably best for a phone, flat power bank, PLB, or anything that can slide in easily. In my opinion it's not that useful due to the size as well as how it can't be accessed without taking the pack off.

Hi! I'm currently using a 30L backpack from Decathlon for my 3-day hikes and was planning to get this as it looks more streamlined/simple and weights less (500g). Do you reckon it would work with a 24lb total load? How has it held up now and what mods have you done to it? Thanks!
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku 11 месяцев назад
i wouldnt want to run with 24lbs. but maybe for hiking. Everyone's body / tolerance is different. It's cheap enough that i'd say its worth a try. let us know your experience if you do get it. Still no issues to this day. No big mods, just snipping long straps here and there. eventually i do plan to do some large mods. remove the zipper, remove the size buckles and replace it with a Y closure at the top, replace the elastic shock cord with static cord. just been lazy and very busy recently.

hi, very good video. I was considering UD30 but now I will look deeply into this one. other reviewer complain about bottom of backpack that after some miles the backpack damages/irritates the lower back because it is not soft enough. did you note the same? and how many kg do you mean can carry with such backpack structure? thanks.
@OutdoorOtaku
@OutdoorOtaku 9 месяцев назад
Thank you! No, i did not notice that. However FYI im a weekend warrior, day hiker, & runner. I put in good miles and have done decent amounts of elevation gain, but im not running ultra marathons or thru hiking. The material is a simple mesh material, the same on the UD packs. The mesh is more abrasive than if the material was just flat non-mesh (does that make sense? lol). However, Im always wearing at least a shirt or sun hoodie so the mesh is never in direct contact to my skin. Worst case if it really is a bother, you can just cut it out. However you will no longer be able to use the frame anymore. for me while running, 8 kg max. However im fairly tall and weak lol. Too heavy will throw off my balance. You may be able to carry more! and even more if you were walking/hiking only.

I use 2 800ml bottles in the shoulder strap pockets. Holds them in place very well. The side pockets and bladder pockets work well too. The shoulder strap pockets placement is perfect for me. Some packs' shoulder strap pockets are too low. So when i have a bottle in them the bottom of the pocket hits my lower chest area. These pockets are in the perfect spot so the bottle rests perfectly on my chest. its also very stretchty.

yes it can easily take all of that. there is no dedicated laptop sleeve though, so i'd recommend to have a separate soft case for your laptop. or maybe wrap it in your shirt or something. you may also want to stuff something else in there too just to take up a little bit of space to prevent the laptop from moving around too much.
