YOu did OK for a first atempt. I have seem some very dangerous YT chainsaw users... My Top Tips for chainsaws. 1. Plan your step-back area to be safe, level and free of hazards (check for overhead obstructions (other trees, powerlines etc) 2. Plan where the tree is going to land (considering the way it is already leaning as a guide for the weight movement and any damage it already has) 3. Make a wedge cut on the side you want the tree to fall over into about 1/3 of the diameter of the tree, at a comfortable height. You can cut the stump shorter later. 4. make the back side cut where it will come out into the wedge about in the middle of the wedge height. When the tree seems to be ready to fall, back the saw out and step back so the tree doesn't kick up and back at you standing close to the stump. 5. cut it up into the bits and sizes you want, again, using an undercut first to the cut breaks cleanly, and doesn't crack or hinge on the bark... as you discovered, cutting up the fallen tree takes some thought, and figure out how to take the tension of the cut depending on the contact points... put the supporting stump on the other side and have the end in the air, not ready to wedge the chain as it closes up the gap under the weight... Also, if you are going to cut that diameter tree again, you need a longer bar so the tip of the chain is clear out the other side, not ending in the wood, leaving a strip uncut, which will affect the hinge and the fall of the tree... Hook up with some country fire guys or SES and get the chainsaw training... they you will truly be a 'certified' tree detailer once you have done that module...

I'm no chainsaw expert (using one) but I am a 2 stroke expert. The biggest tip for anyone using 2 stroke tools is... If you are not going to use it for more than a few days empty it of fuel, not just the tank but especially the carb, run it dry!! 90% of the repairs I do on 2 stoke tools is knackered carbs because old fuel has been left in them.

I learned how to fell a tree and so much more from my granddad, and the things he drilled into my head were; keep the chain sharp, and Oil, Oil, Oil. Whether in the mixing with it and fuel or just the need to keep the machine/chain oiled, I have always made sure my chainsaws are lubricated, sharp, and tightened correctly. If you haven’t put any sort of pesticide on the termites, you can absolutely burn them in a fire pit. If no pesticides, and the infestation is no longer in the wood, you can burn inside. Your chooks may like a piece of that trunk if they don’t already have one or there is room for another. I really like your adventurous spirit, and hope that chainsaw lasts longer than I expect it will. #Husqvarna ☺

You did OK for your first go .. Only thing be careful of hard leaners like this tree .. They can Barberchair and that can be Deadly . A bore cut is a much better technique for them .. Much Safer .. Also ..Burning termite wood is completely fine ..As long as you have not had treatment on the wood to get rid of the termite.. And one last thing .. There does seem to be way to much oil in the mix ..Most saws now run at 50 to 1 .. Just check the manual to confirm..

Re the 'sawhorse for firewood', the easiest way, is to get two identical pallets, remove a couple of the small cross timbers so they will interlace and put several bolts/screws at the cross point. It may also need a few bits of rope across the bottom to keep it in the X shape. If you do it right, it will also fold up flat when not in use. Being essentially free, you can make another in a few years, after you've inevitably damaged it too much.

Number 1 tip, more power baby Actual genuine tip, when you have a large log sitting supported at both ends in the air and you're bucking up rounds, come in from underneath first and go like 80-90% of the way through the log.. make all the cuts the whole length of the log and then you can come along at the end and just nip the top 10% of each cut that remains... that way you only move the log once to first support it and you're never getting pinched or cutting into the ground.

Have a look at a Forestwest Log Stand, especially good if you have a lot of longer pieces that are roughly the same diameter. Just slide one end of the log into the jaws, and then lift up the other end and the teeth ‘ratchet’ on the log. Last cut right near the stand will leave about a 400mm log (if you haven’t jammed to much of the log into the end).

No trouble with burning wood that was / is home to termites. The danger is felling the tree and cutting up the wood with the saw… unless like yours it’s on a lean you can’t be sure it will fall where you want WHEN you want and you said it yourself chains don’t like dirt, termite trees are normally full of dirt

Nice job. Not bad for an inexpensive saw. Only time will tell how well it'll hold up. Nice self-splitting wood too. I wouldn't take it in the house if termites are live in it, but it'd be great for a fire pit. If you are sure the termites are all dead/gone you're good to go. I love Eucalyptus firewood. It burns hot and it burns a long time. Nice scent too.

If he splits it and throws it into the chook shed they will clean them out pronto. Did pretty good for what it is although my top chainsaw tip is buy chainsaws off chainsaw companies, they are their own thing. Although like Tim with line trimmers they do tend to breed. 10 plus years ago I brought a small top handle for around my house, I now still have the top handle but in addition a battery pole saw, and a 60cc saw for fire wood. and I'm toying with the idea of a battery top handle. When did this become a good idea? NFI!

My 2-bobs worth Tim..... Firstly, being a huge 7ft tall man 😂, you need to watch your back when chainsawing. Let the saw do the work by pivoting off the dogs. Secondly, the saw isn't a bread and butter knife, so no need to pull it in and out... again, pivot off dogs. Lastly... i think you have found the perfect location for an open fire pit.... burn stumps in situ.

Happy to see you with more PPE, but you might consider protecting your legs and forearms, too. Look at chaps and pants designed for chainsaw protection. You did pretty well for a first timer, but a sawhorse will protect your back when you are bucking up those logs. I wouldn’t take any bug infested wood into your house. You need a fire pit at your new place (assuming you are allowed to burn outdoors). You might be better off hiring a stump grinder than trying to pull that stump out.
