This was a very special video for me to create and I hope that shows in the final product. What do you all think about the state of this fishery? I'm open to all comments and criticisms 👇

Growing up here and hearing the stories of the 80-90 and even the 2000s to the last 5 years where is been slowing down more and more also with me fishing the piers hard this year and only hearing of /seeing 6 fish hooked and 3 landed 2 of which where undersized which from what i heard used to be a slow day if you saw that many in one day makes me think that the fishery is over fished and maybe the fish are adapting and changing there migration/ travel patterns

So Glad for ya bro!. Wish it would have Won!! As far as the Fisheries 😢😢😢. When i was in my early 20's you couldn't throw a bait in the ocean, without catching at Least a Catfish or pin fish. Unfortunately?, now days you can go to the surf or a pier and set there for Hrs without a Bite! Soooo Sad! 😢 You Really have to Search for a place that has a Fish! When i was 20 and swimming on Any beach!, i would see Tons of Fish. Oil spills, plus runoffs causing growth of Red tide has Mostly been the causes of tons and tons of our Fish losses! I have seen their Populations drop dramatically after these. And Now, the shark populations have been over protected for Way too long! Like everything in life, there Must be Balance. I hate to say it, but... too many sharks and Too many Big Old Goliath Groupers are decimating the other fish populations. They need to be reduced so balance can be restored

It’s great that you can show the fun part of catching fish and also incorporate the important information behind the fish stock and the population size. I think it’s a great way to show people how things are going or what’s going on in your local ecosystem/ all around fish stocks, it allows people to learn more about what’s going on in a different way than reading a boring article. Videos like this are part of the awmser to help raise awareness to what’s going on while still enjoying a great fishing vid👍🏼

Take chewed up Gulp baits and keep them in the Gulp juice bag and when you need pinfish just cut tiny pieces off the old Gulp and put it on your small goldie hook or sabiki rig and reel em up 4 or more at a time. Works like a charm. 👍🏻

WoW! Thanks for another great video Ryan! You know this was special to me as well. I'm the guy who commented in the last video you caught a Cobia in. I'll refresh your memory. In 1985 I was fishing from the Commercial Blvd. Pier in Ft Lauderdale, when a Manta Ray that was so big it had to fold its wings up to fit between the pilings, a bunch of kids on the pier started yelling "Cobia Cobia" one of them cast a lure to it, and landed a 40lb Cobia! I was 23 yrs old back then, living in my 1st apartment @ 51st and Bayview. I'd love 2 sea some kind of stocking program for Cobia. When you guys saw that Manta Ray, I had a flashback to being on that pier!.....jimi

Man we normally fish the 26’ and under in Boshamps but didn’t this year. That’s epic that you came to our area to fish the tournament. It’s crazy that one fish that met the weight requirement one it all. I doubt they do the tourney next year. And your captain is 100% correct since the oil spill the cobia fishing hasn’t been the same here.

Another great video, Ryan. You're on a creative roll. Congrats on catching a couple of fish during those three days, because you were fishing in a watery desert. I moved up to Navarre, FL from Palm Beach County six years ago with high hopes of experiencing this region's legendary cobia spring migration. Every year since, I've seen fewer and fewer cobia caught off the Navarre Beach Pier each season until it hit rock bottom in 2023. I fished nearly every day from mid-March through the end of April and saw only four fish caught during that six-week period. That's so disheartening. I heard only two fish were weighed in during the Boshamps' tournament you fished and for 31 boats, that says it all. Clearly, the migration pattern here in the Florida Panhandle has changed for some reason, since there are plenty of fish being seen and caught elsewhere. Do I think the species has been over-fished -- absolutely! Will the cobia fishery here ever return to a decent level, who knows. The striped bass and bluefish migrations up in New England are known for their peaks and valleys. Maybe that's what the Panhandle is going through. Only time will tell.

Oil spill definitely played a role but everyone keeping breeder cobia that are 50 pounds plus is gonna hurt. Slot size would be nice for cobia. Traveling to Hawaii they usually just keep the babies and let the big breeders go to keep populations high.

Nice video. I live in the Pensacola area and for the past few years have been catching cobia in the 36” to 48” range on various wrecks 8 to 10 miles offshore - late April to late May. We will typically fishing with live cigar minnows or hardtails on a flatline while using a virtual anchor in 75 to 100 foot of water. These wrecks hold a lot of bait sized fish which bring in the cobia. Unfortunately you have to fight off the AJs, red snapper and sharks as well.
