Absolutely hands down my favorite motherboard to play with. GREAT FIND for only $20. I typically buy 660 boards left and right for around $25-30 just for the board. Don't know if you ever saw the reset button hack video I showed on the 660, but yeah, you can make EVERYTHING work, plus add Wi-Fi & Bluetooth, and SUPER SUPER easy to Hackintosh. You'll find the 660 boards make for easier content for your channel then those crusty 3010's that need extra adapters and hacks. The 660 board is PERFECT. You so gotta do a case swap on this.
yea i saw you videos on this board, that hackintosh inthe vetroo case is looking sweet. this deal was def a sweet deal and so easy to upgrade. def gonna keep my eyes out for more of them. When i saw it i remembered your videos about it and it was one of the reasons I snagged it up cause i saw how it easy it is to mod and upgrade!!
Is the front I/O standard or proprietary? I want to do a motherboard swap on mine to bring it up to speed. I still use it as a daily driver for teleworking. Seeing that you mentioned Hackintosh, I might need to get a 660 board for that specific use case.
The thing with any Dell 2nd or 3rd gen processors is that they have not been affected by the curse of proprietary power connections. This means that PSU can be replaced.
I have a dell with a 4th gen i5 (4460), I can also upgrade my PSU, the only thing that is "proprietary" is the power button connector, it has to have a jumper connected to either the positive or negative, to two other pins, or else no video appears on the screen, but other than that it's not proprietary.
Awesome I just cleaned up an old laptop and was able to get windows 11 installed but I got to get an SSD great video!!! New sub! A lot of Dell computers are very upgradable I have always appreciated that about Dell truthfully
As someone who owns and uses this exact computer as my daily driver i can tell you a few things -This board can support ivy bridge(I believe it needs the latest bios though) and can support 32gb of ram -there's almost no bottlenecking with gpus. I use a gtx 1660 super(2 fans) on it and im able to play all the newest triple a games on ultra with 60-80 fps and with no bottlenecking(I upgraded it to a ivy bridge i7) it also supports ssds. -im even able to play vr games perfectly with no setbacks -This thing is like a upgradeable supercomputer for its time
I love watching your videos. It's almost like I made a RU-vid channel , as I do pretty much the same exact thing you do with PC's lol. Keep them coming bro.
I have a inspiron 660 that I upgraded with old spare parts. A 1650 video card, 3770 cpu, 16 gigs of ram and a 450 watt PSU. It's not my main system but I enjoy playing around with it.
I got one of these for free about two years ago and got some budget parts, and now the only stock part is the motherboard. it is now my daily driver, my specs are the i5 2400, amd radeon rx6400, and 16 gb ram.
my mom gave me her old dell inspiron 660 and i kept it 1 out of nistogia i played tons of minecraft on it and 2 becuase it was my moms so i treasure it and 3 cus it does everything i need in 2023 mine has 12gb of ram though and a core i7 3770 i upgraded it lol and some random amd radeon gpu with 2gb vram that found in a thrift store lol when it was my moms it had a Core i3 2ed gen and 4gb of ram and no GPU lol but it ran minecraft just fine lol it had windows 7
Nice. Well, something similar to what I have. I recently added two extra 4g + 2g corsairs to my old gateway i3 pc, one hd 6770, I just had to buy a little adapter cable to power the video card, one ssd for windows etc and another ssd for gaming and shit . All that from my old gaming pc. Right now I only play ArmA2 1080p graphics on high, 35-40 fps 🤷🏼♂️
I appreciate that! Been enjoying your stuff too! I picked up that 6500xt after watching your video. Def a cool card for some budgets builds I have been doing.
Plenty of computers this old only have one sata 3 port and the rest at gen 2 or even gen 1 (usually color coded). So make sure the ssd is on the fastest port!
you can game on any budget rig so long as you have 8gb of ram a 4 core cpu and a memory card with 3+gb ddr5 or better. I had a rig with 8gb ddr2 core 2 quad 2.6ghz and a gtx1060 3gb. my first pc build using a free pc that had 1 gb ddr2 and a 1 core processor. spend 30$ on ebay and 150$ at best buy for the gpu, used as my primary gaming pc for 4 years
Wait how did you get that processor to work that Computer should be to old for that prosser. Did you change the motherboard. Because the Dell inspiron line 545, 560 to this model shouldn't be able to upgrade to that line of prossers.
I paid 15 dollars for a 560, I swapped out the cpu for q9550 and put in a 1050ti and this thing moves, yea it’s limited to sata2 but the ssd still keeps going
If any of you have a Dell Inspiron 660 with an i3, i5, CPU, upgrade to an i7 3770 CPU or an i7 3770K, The performance is superb, i7 3770 is an Ivybridge CPU, not a Sandybridge, Ivybridge is much faster and performs better than a Sandybridge CPU you wont regret it.
OK, good jobs bro but need to rebuild I plan to buy 6 desktop for me and replace Intel porsscer cpu 11 or 12 Gen because older cpu porsscer work windows 11 but it not supported old hardware I need to replace new porsscer means to install windows 11????.
IMO this kind of project with this level of equipment, is just not worth the time, never mind any added expense. Then again, if all you wish to do is play Fornite at some frames, this all somehow works, even though that leaves me shaking my head...
I kept mine to give it a sleeper vibe. At the time the only upgrades that I did were an i3 to i5, an HD7770, a WiFi card, and a PCI-e Ethernet card for dual NICs.
drop in a bios revision A13 and put in a cheap xeon E3-1240v2 its essentially a 3770 without the integrated graphics but if you put in a 1660 super in it it rocks. check out my channel its aint crap but i put a vid of my 660 build been rockin it for about 3 years now and its still strong
lol.... honestly never had those coolers give me an issue with noise. I use high end thermal paste so maybe that helps but also second and third gen really don't get to toasty i have found. 4th gen an up i usually get a better cooler for them.
@@DLMtechgarage I also use a quality thermal paste. I could not stand the noise (like a constant jet turbine) from the stock cooler that came with a Dell pre-built i7-8700 centered build, so replaced it w/a Arctic Freezer air CPU cooler. Maybe you have lost some hearing from working w/so much lawn equipment...
they make great starter pc's plus they are good for donations. I run into alot of people who struggle to afford computers and deals like this is what allows me to at least give them something to start. something is better then nothing!
Who walks away from a computer because it doesn't have RGB? That is crazy. Then again, I chose my systems for what I want them to do, not how they look.
Man I wish that was true in my area. RGB and fortnite is all that people want when I post computers for sale. First question I get asked is "what are the FPS in fortnite" so every computer I build and sell I always run fortnite to have the information handy.... It's crazy!!! I can sell a high end computer and still get asked that question and if I don't have that info they walk away from the deal smh....
Just getting into pcs and don't have much money to play with I was given a dell inspiron 3670 with the core i3 by my dad thats maybe 4 years old possibly Anything I can do to play some basic games on it lol
I would throw in a video card that does not require pci supplemental power like a gtx 1650 or even an rx 6400... they are direct plus ins, require no power and should get your started!!
