Enjoyed watching this 660 video, just upgraded & restored my 660 MT, previously upgrade to a faster i5 CPU plus 16GB of DDR3-1600 memory (was running 8GB, limited to 2 banks ... just like your SFF). Salvaging an i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4 Ghz - from a 12 years old Acer Predator gaming PC, it's now working great, much faster than the i5 CPU (Dell officially does not list any i7 CPU for these 660's built ... just make sure your Bios is the latest & updated) Using CPU-Z ID to check benchmark #'s - comparable to getting an i7-4770 or 4790 as they are all Sandy/Ivy Bridge w 1155 LGA socket, bottleneck is PCI-e 2.0 only (wish it's 3.0 like our newer Optiplex 7020/9020 MT) - should find a pre-owned eBay one for under $25 shipped. AND, Rufus USB installed latest Windows 11 Pro (23H2 updated) with TPU 1.2 enabled in UFEI (ACHI) mode - 250GB SSD as boot drive, plus a 1TB SATA and 1.5 TB SATA HDD for data storage (RAID home server) Intel HD Graphics is fine over HDMI - had a half-height GeForce GTX 750Ti in the PCIe 16X slot but wasn't really doing much as this isn't used for gaming - didn't want to overload the power supply (660s PS is lower in output/wattage, as you know) Just thought you should know on possible upgrade path at very low cost, and it works fine. Have a spare M.2 SSD with the PCI-e adapter card, going to play & see if I can "hack" the Bios or use one of the workaround to paste the device driver into the OS to boot up. Think we can extend the usable service life for easily another 3 to 5 years, until MS roll out Windows 12 ... then, this PC will get Linux Ubuntu or Mint. Regards.
Nice video. Thank you for sharing. I saw you installing more Ram, change the thermal paste, and reinstalling the DVD drive, not installing the SSD. Did you edit that part out?
I have upgraded mine, but thinking of maxing it out, how is the 16gb working for you? I have Windows 11 64 bit, was thinking of getting some Ballistik brand on ebay
Hey good video but my only qustion is why didnt you upgrade the cpu with a i5 or something similar? you would get more money for it when put pack on the market
The ram slot should be next to the CPU cooler. If you cannot find it, look up the motherboard on Google and it should show you where the RAM slot is located.
@fosnancomicanimationtv3199 I highly recommend you to buy a Radeon RX 6400 low profile, Radeon WX 4100 or Nidia T600 for better game performances. As long if you purchase an intel Xeon e3 1245v2 or an intel core i7 2700/3700/3770K, and 16 gb ram first.
If it works in your current situation appreciate it. It may not be the fastest computer but it will get you by until you can afford to get something better. :)
