$200 Chinese folding travel practice piano review

I review the Clavier Folding Piano, also sold as the NikoMaku piano on Amazon for $200
One thing after having it for a bit: the keys hit the maximum velocity too fast, the action springs are too weak… this is a big flaw but not a killer. You need to adjust the calibration in your software piano, custom to each piece you play. This is the major weakness in this keyboard.
If you are getting this as your main keyboard don’t… any cheap Yamaha keyboard will be better as far as playability and built in sound.
This should be only for something like traveling and you just want something to learn fingering in a piece. It is not expressive nor something that you could perform with.

Finally! I've searched for a video talking about making it sound better for a while, and you're the only one that talked about the software and the speakers.

I can wait until one of the big boys (Casio, Yamaha, Roland) step up and make one. I’ve been asking about something like this at the NAMM show for several years now. I really want to pick one up, just because of your review.

Give it MIDI outputs and works with keyboard sound modules...Uno USB to MIDI adapter would work on the output. Then get a better pedal than included...not bad for a folding and better than the rubber roll up for pianists needing to practice a bit before engagements. Macbook software and speakers sound adequate. But like others say, if Roland and others do this game changer...we like it basically. Keys make a difference to real players everywhere...great review. Crappy built in's yeah, not so good, but in a pinch when you want to practice Hanon or warm ups back stage...it'll work. Hammer action, agreed...this is the right concept direction though. Thank you...

One thing. The biggest drawback is that the keys hit high velocity way too easily, making it difficult to calibrate properly. You pretty much need to calibrate it for each piece type you try to play. It is very inexpensive, though.
@Cloulu
@Cloulu 2 года назад
Hello! When you say "calibrate" is about your own strength or there is any way to calibrate in the piano?

Hey, nice review. I purchased this based on your review for my travels coming up. Have you tried using this with VST's like keyscape or ravenscroft? is it playable?
@dj-jazzy-jimbob
@dj-jazzy-jimbob 3 года назад
Yes but it maxes out the velocity so on say Ravenscroft you may have to set a velocity curve for each piece and sacrifice dynamics
@dj-jazzy-jimbob
@dj-jazzy-jimbob 3 года назад
So it’s perfect for travels and getting fingering and timing down but I wouldn’t want to perform with it.

I have one question. Is size of the keys, in terms of length and wide, smaller than the standard piano keys? Or it's just about at the same size as the real piano?

Where can I find this Pianoteq you talk about? It's not listed in the App store. :/ Also, any ideas on how to improve the pedal?
@dj-jazzy-jimbob
@dj-jazzy-jimbob 3 года назад
Pianoteq is an app for Mac, PC, or Linux available at Modartt dot com. It’s not a mobile app. The Best mobile app is Ravenscroft. I think the pedal is just an on off switch. I don’t know how to improve it.

@@dj-jazzy-jimbob If I used this piano controller with Ravenscroft on a Macbook Pro with high RAM and high CPU and a good quality roland speaker, do you anticipate the sound quality will be decent enough for busking? And would I be able to tone down the hard overly sensitive touch artificially through the Ravenscroft?

I bought the "Fverey" brand (basically the same thing) in 61 key size so it fits easily in my luggage. I'm traveling with it and cannot figure out how to hook it up to my computer - it doesn't "show up" in an interface as an input as do my other MIDI keyboards. Thanks.
@JR-ws8zy
@JR-ws8zy Год назад
I ordered an identical one from Amazon ( brand name Estar) but I don't have it yet. But I did read where a factory rep answered a midi question - he stated that the midi was only through Bluetooth and that there was no USB midi port on the keyboard.

@@JR-ws8zy Mine has a mini USB port. It worked seamlessly with my iPad, which is better anyway - more portable than a computer!

Say for beginner and children ...before buying a good quality piano...but If U r not serious and just trying to try whether U got talent .this one is highly recommended or else Ur expensive piano will become Ur home dexoration😊

Hi... thks for doing a product review. I'm from Australia. I emailed to Clavier website inquiring about the rechargeable battery; can it be replaceable if the battery "kaput". They didn't reply. I hope you can spare me some thoughts on the rechargeable battery.
