@@terrellhalt964 TBH, I was upset that Myles just sort of was using the grandma blanket. I know it was for a video, but what if he got it dirty? My grandma made my cat a little granny square blanket. And I did wash that, but the other ones were on the back of the couch and the end of my bed.
@@johndeerekid167 🤣 I for real saw a Yeti tumbler on the highway and it legit looked in good shape considering getting smacked around. So they have that. It was the cool teal color and the paint was still intact. For those grossed out by used things, I didn't bring it home. Nope.
@@JNMKlover That's how I got my Yeti tumbler, but I found it while digging out an old mud hole. Not saying they only sell stupid, expensive products, but some of this crap is ridiculously.
As a quilter, I can tell you Tyler’s Grandma’s “blanket” cost way more to make than the YETI blanket. Fabric is easily $13/yard and the minky backing fabric is even more expensive. Then there’s the cost of batting-the inner layer that makes the “blanket” a quilt. Finally, the whole thing has to to be quilted so that all the layers hold together. I’ve made custom designed hockey quilts for each of my grandsons; each quilt cost me more than $350 to make. You’re right about one thing, though, a grandma’s “blanket” is made with LOVE.
strictly as a blanket I agree. He didn't test how easy they were to wash, and that would be needed if you tried to use a quilt as a picnic blanket. Which is probably what the YETI was made for. I have a little picnic blanket, keeps my bum dry on damp grass. It is kind of sad how people put no value on handmade things, and treat it like it was free. Clearly It was not and you aren't even talking labor costs. We don't all have someone willing to make us free stuff, well, gift us stuff that wasn't free
yeah fabric is expensive my next quilt will be made of all the handkerchiefs my dog gets when I bring her to the groomers. Last one I made I think I spent 500 bucks on was huge and ornamental but my brother wanted a hand stitched quilt for his California king mattress that had personality.
@@brandonh1317 Right! She would probably send you a fresh batch of cookies with it and a card saying how proud she was of the great job you were doing and that she hopes you are remembering to brush your teeth and say your prayers before bed.
@@thelittleredtina you're last name isn't black is it? Tina black LOL. I knew a girl with that name years ago!!! But yup! Fresh batch of cookies and the blanket would be a heavy thick blanket. That yeti blanket sounds like a rain jacket. Gross!
Having a video of Tyler’s Grandma’s reaction to this video would be priceless. If she’s lucky enough to be around to see this video I hope it makes her extremely happy
The Yeti is a ground cloth ... it’s designed to be a tarp, but more pleasant. It’s durable and water resistant. This guy may as well have compared pottery from a friend and an expensive sieve to see which holds water better.
I have over 20 handmade quilts from my grandmother and great grandmother. I’d rather cuddle up with these any day than a stiff, uncomfortable $200 blanket.
I'm getting the idea that there r folks in these comments who would give u top dollar for one of them. But I get the feeling u wouldn't part with one and I hope u put them in ur will to go to the right person.
@@raimeyewens7518 awwwww! Love it! Mended and only learned to crochet basic granny squares. Don't think I am disregarding that love and talent, but she had to commute to work and worked last retirement, because she was widowed young. And she took care of us kids. We didn't give her much time, then she became a caregiver for a loved one. So we have treasures of hers and the fee things she made. The special things I saw on her shelves for decades became mine. I bought rose perfrumed things because she has rose hip oil on the back of her toilet and Yardley Rose. Their homes had a specific smell, I can't remember anymore. I'm so happy ur family has forever with her blankets. I put cloth items in Ziploc bags, so they don't get damaged or age faster. One of my family members asked for her last pillow and pillowcase and it still smelled like her. Some may find that odd, but when u love someone so much, u try to hang onto their smells and ness longer. The greatest name at death being the love that lingers on our lips, rather than bank account is the real blessing.
@@JNMKlover memories are so sweet. They lived on a farm and I’d spend some of my summer with them. She always had a large wooden frame up in the living room for making quilts. Loved it there 🥰 when she heard I put her quilts in plastic bags she got onto me for it lol. She said to roll them up and put it in a pillow case. I can’t remember the reason but I did it. 🤷🏻♀️😂
The plastic bags (zip lock or other) can cause the fibers to decay faster. You're better off to use an old, clean 100% cotton sheet or pillowcase to wrap & store old quilts or fabric items. Or find an acid free storage box. (I made the same mistake with a plastic bag, til I learned how it affected the fabric.)
@@eleanorfinley8422 I just find it fascinating that what originated as a way to not waste leftover fabric has morphed into a hobby that costs so much.... absolutely not complaining, because the amount of time that it takes even for a crazy quilt with unmatching patterns and fabrics is absolutely insane.
They go for the rare, exponential price curve with their products, the higher on the price difference between their least expensive products is much tighter than the prices of stuff at the top, like their large coolers, blankets and bags
What a hilarious way to bring quilters and Buschhhhhh fans together! Also, Tyler's grandma is a BEAST of a quilter! The size of the quilt, the variation of squares, the fabric choices themselves and the stitch pattern... That beauty took some serious time to make! Way to go Tyler's grandma!
I bought a wool blanket from an army surplus store for $30 nearly 20 years ago and it went with me around the globe as I backpacked, at times it was the only thing between me and the cold. It served me well then and it continues to serve me today on camping trips or cold nights on the couch.
The note from Tyler’s grandmother on his blanket is so precious. My grandmother was blind most of the time that I was alive, so she couldn’t really sew. But she could knit - so my blanket she made me is an afghan. It’s one of my most treasured possessions and I love it. Not trying to get all soupy, but just making me think of my grandma. Rest In Peace, grandma. June 2014. Grandma’s blanket = clear winner. All day, everyday.
Being a grandma who makes "blankets" (quilts) I found this video so fun! I LOVE making quilts for the kids but sadly they dont appreciate them...yet Maybe someday. And just as a bit of information, the cost of making that quilt takes quite a bit of money too, along a LOT of time. Thus, the love in the gift of a quilt.
The Yeti blanket is waterproof to 500 meters and is engineered to withstand the heat of re-entry. It can extinguish a campfire, redirect lava flow, act as a radiation shield, and keep you warm beneath the north pole.
I love your videos. This one yanked some tears from this guy. My grandmother made me several blankets (quilts) similar to that one. I love them and miss her. Thanks for the entertainment with these videos!
Even though u can take a 5 gallon bucket, a piece of plywood with a cut out, and an old school toilet seat with the lid for free. TBH, if anyone read these comments and has a lady he wants to take camping, okay get the Yeti, she deserves to have a clean and non stinky thing to go on.
Man this guy has me in stitches! Priceless! My great great grandmother made one of these blankets for my father and I remember sleeping with one of these as a child, and he is right, the coverage is phenomenal! As well as the softness and the love! LOL grandma blankets always win! yeti boooo!
😆 If anyone does they probably fall into at least one of the following categories: A. Have too much money. B. Work at either REI or Yeti (employee discount). C. They’re a RU-vidr.
My Dad, I was shopping for his birthday gift. The day before we were making fun of it. So, I got it for him as a joke. It matches his boat, has good grip and is durable. But yes I agree they are unnecessary
No kidding though, homemade quilts are not cheap to produce even the materials alone can get pretty expensive, my mom makes a lot of quilts, anytime someone close to us has a major life event she makes a quilt, materials alone usually cost in the ballpark of $50, and then depending on the quilt it can be between 10-20 hours to make. That doesn’t even include the cost of the machines, which the ones that do the fancy embroidery. Some of the higher end machines are worth more than my first two cars put together.
My go-to blanket is a quilt that some of the old ladies at my church made me when I graduated from high school. (They made one for every graduating senior.) Nine years later and that baby is still super comfortable.
I was in Lynchburg recently and they had a little shop that was just a group or 65+ yr old lady's that just made blankets and baby clothes and all sorts of random stuff they were super nice and not very expensive and came with a JD shot glass
lol dude. honest, straight up review. stay safe my dude. you must be on Yeti's megacorp conglomerate radar by now. you crack me up. that's a nice $200 boat tarp
If it did it would be something like a David Goggins quote like: "Suffering is the true test of life." Or "I don't stop when I'm tired, I stop when I'm done." 😁
Yeah they look like they’d serve very different purposes. As well as you can order that Yeti blanket for $200 but you can’t just order a seemingly high quality very large hand made blanket from grandma. And finding someone to hand make a blanket that good sounds like it’d be more expensive than the yeti blanket.
I have so many blankets like the one Tyler's grandma made him but from my grandma and they are priceless and probably better than most blankets especially one that Yeti makes
A company makes the most overrated coolers, I don’t care how long it holds ice if it only holds 2/3rds as much ice as their competitors for 10 times the price.
The interesting thing is that homemade quilts of that quality are actually also super expensive. This is probably the only comparison where the yeti product is in a similar price range to the product he has at home.
Love this! I’ll take the quilt over the yeti blanket all day. :). Ps. I’ve watched this at least 10 times today. As a Quilter, I loved it. Now, I’m binge watching your channel. 🤣😁
A packing blanket costs 6 bucks for 3. Depending on where you get them. And they work great for laying out on the sand and grass. Terrible use of 200 dollars for a picnic blanket.
I find it amazing that quilting originated to utilize the last scraps after making something else and it has now changed into something that people will pay tens of dollars a yard for the fabric to make one with.
I make quilts too, and you damn right there’s love in every stitch! That and maybe some swear words if triangles are involved. Also lots of time running back to the fabric store to frantically find one more yard of that color you bought too little of because you’re a quilter, not a mathematician.
Ok for real what is the material called on the 'soft' side of the grandma blanket? Is it the luxe cuddle stuff or something else? Go ask grandma and report back please!
Tyler's Grandma has mint of fabrics, batting and backing that costs well over $200 but it will be loved to pieces. Buy Grandma a gift certificate to her local quilt shop and she'll probably make you a quilt, too.
I still use the blanket my Nana made for me when I was 7. Best part is it still covers me as I’ve obviously grown a bit since then. So that’s my nana thinking ahead!
