I love how only a father understands the way their young children talk. I remember it very well from when my kids were young. Enjoy the TIMING of all of this.
Michael im about to have a baby boy . Im looking for a 1981 chevy pickup to tear it up and start from scratch, basically by the time he can drive id want to have this built. Ur comment caught my attention, look at this guy with his little boy, love how he explains to his kido !!!
My favorite part is your 2 boys out there with you. I have an 84 my dad bought in 88 the year I was born and it was the first truck I ever rode in. My boys are 6 and 7 now and it was the first truck they ever rode in too. My truck is worth so much to me in memories alone!!
A+ on the basics with cosmetic and just being a super nice guy. Letting the kids help that's awesome. Good man. But your timing is 180° out that's why it backfired and caught the fuel in carb on fire. The instructions on your timing advice from RU-vid is incorrect. Most definitely you had the engine on the wrong stroke when you set TDC. Start over. You'll get it man. Good luck!!
On that manifold you had on there, the "weird stuff" you were looking at was a square bore adapter plate because someone ditched their original spread bore, almost certainly QJet, carburetor. Always a roll of the dice on those, tried it myself for awhile but had issues with intermittent flooding and I was never able to quite iron it out. I liked the Rochester better anyway, I just needed something for a few days while I rebuilt it. Cool video though, nice work.
Give your little boys some wrenches, they will soon have that truck in many pieces and spread all over your yard. If you are jacking a car up, make sure that you chock the wheels from being able to move, it makes it safer. A cheap and nasty way of lowering the front end is to cut the coils down, just try one coil at a time, in the back use lowering blocks. The main problem with working on an old worn out truck is that the bits are all worn out.
It 180 degree out of timing and you can time it old school by using a clear cup or glass of water ,since the motor is not to radical try it you have it right when there a slight wave in the water.
So one of the best ways to set the timing on that is to pull number one spark plug and turn it over till it blows out to get it top dead center then set the distributor to face number one and set the timing to it. If it won’t seat down cause of the oil pump take a long flat head and adjust it.
Started watching and subscribed based on how genuine it is. Keep doing your thing brotha, great work, great content. Kids hiding the bolts and the quick detective work, too funny and awesome to watch. Oh and “TIMING”
When you set it to tdc you might have gotten it 180 degrees off. So the piston was at tdc but a valve may have been open when the spark is sent to that cylinder
My hat's off to you sir. Like how dad and his boy's working together. Love the boy's hiding dad's lug nuts. To funny and love the patience. This is how I remember me and my boy's. Great job dad.👍👍
TTTTIIIIIMMIINNNNGGGG LOL ive had my 74 for along while now, havent worked on her for a minute but im glad, i will begging to work on her soon... njoi the built man its so much fun....
I’m in highschool and if I were trying to keep it under $2k I would’ve already lost lol. Only had the truck for a month but so much work is needed I’m already about $2500 in and it’s not even road worthy yet
🤣🤣🤣 Flashbacks mannnnnnn. Did the same when my kids were little too. We was broke af. Literally built a 81 Cutlas Supreme out of a junkyard in middle Tennessee.
I'm glad you appreciate having your kids around. Not every man can see how much it means to everyone involved. To be fair this is my first video/impression on your channel. Thank you for your efforts/time.
I give lots of credit, having the kids running around while trying to figure out what's wrong with the truck . Definitely off timing . But it will fire up . Good luck . 👍. I subscribed. Love his energy .
"There's a mouse in your in your truck" me: aw poor kid little young to see death "Theres an elephant in your truck" Me: well... now we have bigger problems
Your brother was one of my football coaches and I had no idea that you had this RU-vid channel till he shared it on Facebook! Now I’m binge watching all the videos! 😂
That's so cool to see the kids. I remember anytime I helped my dad I always remembered how our bond got stronger. Now I've got a 3 year old and she's a master tech with a socket wrench
The TIMING of this video was a huge coincidence. I've been watching Garage Garage (hoonigan) and a couple other people and their C10s I was looking into them and found most of them in the condition yours is in were still around 5k, so you got a great deal! Should be able to get drop blocks, flip kit and lower the torsion bars to get some low low on it!
garage garaaaaaage! Yeah you can find em cheap just have top be patient. Chase sent this one to me on fb when it came up and I bought it immediately but I was looking for about 3 months
Came for the build and was surprised to see how involved you kept your kids. Wish my dad and me got along so we could work on my builds together instead of him hating it:/ keep it up dude they'll grow up with memories to tell there friends about when they're older
Nice build dude, keep it up and give your little hotrodders around cars. I didn't have a dad to do that with, and it gets me misty eyed seeing someone else doing that. Awesome channel and great editing 👍
I'm 16 and I just picked up a 98 blazer from my aunt. I have to pay for the shop bill (abs and I don't want to mess with it) but it's still a pretty good deal. Edit: timing
And what are your thoughts about a small lift on a C10 to fit slightly larger wider wheels not overly ridiculous like a K10 mud truck but enough to make it look mean
C10 : well cool $2000 budget : awesome Wheels : *_not sure_* Might have been better off with the oem ones, but I don't really mind, on with the show, keep up the good work !
Chevy firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. That is even written across the intake on most. So easy to get it in time. Take number one plug out put your thumb Over the Hole have somebody bump it over until your thumb gets blowed off. Once that is done turn the crank until your balancer is on zero with the timing mark. Make sure the piston is up not down with a screwdriver! Then drop your distributor in pointing at number one cylinder if it does not drop in the whole way just pick up slightly and keep rotating the rotor button l until it drops in facing number one cylinder this may take a few tries but it will keep dropping down in and it will be off but if you keep just lifting up a little bit and turning the rotor button it will eventually fall in on number one what you're doing is turning the drive on the oil pump to match with the cam. Good luck it's easy all it takes is a little bit of patience.
By the way you want to turn the rotor button clockwise same as the rotation of the firing order is clockwise. Make sure you don't have the plug wires mixed up either!
You have my respect and 19-year-old kid from Canada and I love the fact that you’re doing this on a budget putting family first putting your child first and truck last even though for all us guys have dealt with depression bullying and all that crap trucks have meant so much to us and been there for sad times happy times heartbreak times etc. I love watching your videos and I’m definitely subscribing keep doing what you’re doing and always keep your chin high signing off for now Chris cheers
I love how your boys were "helping" by losing lug nuts, etc. You're a good papa, keeping your cool so well. Enjoy your time with your little ones. They'll be grown up before you even know it.
My first truck I bought with my own money was a 1500 1977 GMC pick up. The second truck I bought was a 2500 1984 Chevy pick up. Between then and now I have had a lot of trucks. My heart has always been on the square body trucks. Thanks for this video. I'm looking for the rest of them. Oh by the way..."timing"😅
I subscribed right after seeing you with your kid, I hope your videos turn out to be good seeing how I've never watched one before this. I saw how you interact with you son, and it had memories come back to me when mine were that young and me out working on stuff 24/7, but when you stopped what you were doing and looked back at your kid when you were trying to get him to say wheel that's what helped me see what kinda man you were, even if the videos aren't good I would still be subscribed simply because of the respect you have of your kid.. you also made sure to tell them not to get too close to the truck while it was on stands.. your a good parent and a good man, keep up the good work and love those kids with everything you possible have in your body.. they will test you when they get older and you will wanna break something but during those times moments like these will come back to you and you will catch yourself laughing under your breath then u will start to think back on times you acted like that toward ur parents lol.. good luck buddy
