I got laid off this past November, it was a total surprise. I remember being so stressed at the time, for obvious reasons. But I am only 24, single, and thankfully had enough savings to get me by for a while, at least until I found another job. It just makes me realize how right my grandma was saying “it’s never so bad it couldn’t be worse” - if I had been laid off with $250k debt, or a family to provide for on top of things I can’t imagine 😳😳 I am so thankful for my parents, my family, and my upbringing for instilling the value of saving and living below your means among many many other things. I am certainly blessed, and I should take note from my grandma, but I pray that I find someone special to share my life with and a career that is more personally fulfilling to me. In due time I suppose! As my mom says “let go and let God” ❤️

I find that to be kinda BS personally… It might be 100k in todays world, counting for inflation, but I am a firm believer that the more money you make, higher quality of life you can achieve, the happier you will be. (Assuming you have a normal job with normal job problems, and not busting out 80+ hours a week. Yeah after a certain point it wont matter what you make, cuz you wont have time to enjoy what you make.)

I switched to working 3 days a week from home. I used to grind 65 hours a week but it started to get old. Now I have four days off to be home with the kids and do chores around the house. I also find time to hit the gym and ride my bike. I no longer have to buy work clothes or commute into the office. I do miss the free food and drinks from the office though. I make a little less now but still bring in over $200k. The trade off was worth it. I still max out my 401 K and pay for both of my kids college. Just working on paying off the house now.

Spot on. My in laws were calling us every month asking for money and saying they couldn’t buy food and kids were going to starve. We found out later they were making way more than we were but were spending like crazy while we were on a tight budget. Fast forward ten years and they were beyond broke. Once the kids were moved out and adults, we refused to give them more money. We are in great shape and they are on welfare

@@wordsalad01 Well some how people making 60k drive Luxury cars. So with 5000 square feet being considered a Mansion I do believe that making 300k you can buy a 5 or 6000 square foot house and a couple of luxury cars. People making 100k buy 2500 sqaure foot houses and also drive nice cars and still save in 401ks. Sounds like the couple making 300k are spoiled and must waste alot. After taxes they can live off $17,000 a month. Im sorry I don't have any sympathy for them if they are complaining about that.

Agreed. There was also a super amplified boom bust for tech in Atlanta in particular. Lots of tech companies saw this city as a source of high talent at lower cost (given the colleges in the area with decent engineering programs). Started moving jobs over and trickle down resulted in increases in cost of living, housing etc. I take an even more dour stance: some jobs will be gone forever and investment in some areas will not match what they had before.

That will help you bypass the online application process and get ur resume in front of a hiring manager 3. Cold DM recruiters on Linkedin. 4. Apply online to everything. 5. Take the first job you get 6. Keep applying because you can do better and jump as soon as you get another job. 7. Then do what jade and George said.

He had downgraded his house and sell a few of his cars. I think this is what we all will do at the moment when we have a taste of money then we spend, spend and spend until the company says we have to lay a few people off. Well if you have a job that pays well… you sorta start to think you are too valuable to be let go, and that your company will never fire you. Depends on your skill set, if it carries over to another job easily with similar pay, then it shouldnt matter… if it was a position you “lucked into.” Well… I feel sorry for people that have to start from scratch… its a horrible position to be in. If you are a welder, you can probably work anywhere in the world for good money, Doctor… nurse, any tradeskill, engineer, programmer. Should be able to find a job in a similar area, or same field, for similar pay, sometimes even more.
