My god, I got the goosebumps when you started playing over the background music. That's ingenius!

Ingenious. I honestly bet you could make a business out of making custom drum hardware for people, like this or for people who need an odd angle for a hardware, or just want a custom/diy look.

This video is great. Thanks for posting this. I just tried it, but used a 6" bolt since you hinted at the fact that the 5" might be a bit short depending on the clutch or the profile of the cymbals. Worked out great! Thanks!

I'm only 4 years late watching this video. Seeing a lot of the metal guys with more money than me using a second set of hats. The payin gig days are over for me but I still play heavier music. This would sure help the old achin shoulder. You're right about the longer bolt, and would probably need it to keep a heavier sat of hats open, but this is great! Definitely gonna try this. Thank you!

I'd suggest a 6" for the larger bolt. You can use bigger hats with the taller bolt (plus use it for something else.... stay tuned. Maybe David will make a cool follow up video.) Also, remember you can push the cymbals tight before you lock the clutch to get a tighter sound. Leave them unlocked for a looser sound. And open them a tad and lock them for an open (duh) sound.
@rdavidr
@rdavidr 8 лет назад
+bumble yeah I pushed real hard to get them closed haha, then I found another clutch that was a bit shorter (which you see when Im actually playing them). but 5" was the longest bolt they had, ill have to try somewhere else and get a longer one.

Just built this! It works pretty well, considering I used 14” Paragon hats on my test run. My goal is to build a DIY version of Benny Greb’s new trash crasher cymbals aux hats thing that’s like $500. Now I just have to get 4 splashes of various types so it sounds half decent.

i had an idea a day ago for beater how to make a renewable beater with a roll paint brush! it would sound like the fleece beater but u will be able to replace the beater with little amount of money snce the paint roll would be inserted in the roll apparatus when worn off which wuld be integrated in the beater itself idk how ut would be done but hey its just an idea david!
