The tension on the spring (next to the bungee cord in the video) can also be adjusted to help accomplish this same trick! Hope this helped some of you, and make sure to like and subscribe if you haven’t already! 😁
There are two springs on the left and right. What you need to do is take off that bungee cord and move the spring from position one to at least position three or four if you want it to open faster. One on the left is enough. This will enable the boot to open in the same and more fluent way as it was designed for that. If they haven't designed it then a bungee cord would be a great idea but otherwise it's not necessary.
Good tip I've tried doing this with just adjusting the springs, but the trunk lid accellerates so much at the end that I fear for my rear window. This was much better. Just need to adjust it so the bungee cord doesnt hit the springs and make sounds

That's what I was go to suggest. After putting the spoiler on my Volvo the dealer didn't reset the spring. I had go in and set them. Looks like you've got a lot of settings for ghe springs
This is very practical mod. Besides the rubber band, I have also configured the trunk to open with double-click only. One click opens the electrical "lock" and double click opens the whole trunk. There is a setting for that in TECH2.
You don't need a bungee cord to accomplish that if you look closely where the spring connects on the backside there's two holes the springing occupies one already take the spring off relocated to the lower hole reattach spring on lowest tension possible adjust as needed
Great video! About to screw around with mine. Maybe the inconsistency could be due to the nature of the bungee cord material (loosens up over time)? I wonder if I could find a coil spring to fit...
It makes me all of a sudden realize how far ahead of its time the 99 was. When you pressed the unlock button the lid would fly open at once if you didn't catch it. Of course the unlock button was placed on the lid itself in these analoge days.
i did this a while back the only problem is the cord stretches out and then it will only half open or only pop the trunk a little so you have to replace it or reposition the bungie cord
Always have wondered the same, and after looking for the same cover at junkyards for years, I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s only one on the drivers side. My guess is that it covers up the wiring harness that runs into the trunk. Would have been nice if they included covers on both sides tho
I would definitely look into that. I’ve never owned a CV 9-3 so I’m not sure where that could be coming from. I would recommend posting about this issue on a Facebook group or searching forums
You’d have to put an absurd amount of tension on there to do that..the trunk won’t even open far enough (even when overextended with some force) to touch the glass lol. That sounds like a traumatic outcome tho
@@AutoAutopsy Obviously it won't happen if it's done properly as you did it. But a ridiculous amount of tension can damage the mounts and allow the lid to break the glass over time..
No, it will not work, cause the mechanism isn't the same. The mechanism is not partially in the trunk like on a sedan. So it is not easy to fix a bungee cord on it.
