300 bucks for all this? What a time to be alive. I mean I am rediscovering the gamecube catalogue atm and if you add PS2 and Wii to that, what an excellent emulation box you got there. Also some light PC games like Hades and Hollow Knight to boot. This is spetacular.
Killer device. This is the route I want to go once my old desktop PC gets obsolete. Also some of the emulators that ran poorly, like Citra were more of a software issue rather than hardware: Open GL is terrible on AMD on Windows. We have to wait until Vulkan is released or run the emulator on Linux.
This chip was used by a then cheap Aya Neo handheld. And yes, the company was called Aya back then, and their first handheld was called Neo, and back then was actually 2 years ago. This is definitely exciting time for the emulation fans.
I think it's worth saving the extra hundred dollars or so for a Steam Deck over this, however for the price this really isn't bad for those willing to compromise on resolution and frame rates for modern games. As for emulation, this is incredible.
You should use Black Ops 3 Zombies/Custom Zombies as a benchmark. I'm looking for a console replacement mini PC that can play at least 8th gen games (with custom content) and emulate up to 7th gen. Edit: Additionally, I'd like it to run Steam OS, but that's not necessarily a requirement
Sometimes it's worth the premium to have something with such a small physical profile. I know I love these little guys for something like a Plex server, at least.
I’m so fascinated by these mini PCs for an all in one concept build I’ve been working on for over a year now. I just can’t decide what PC performance to include with the actual game consuls in the build
I definitely want to invest in one of these to make a retro console for my tv. I probably wouldn't go past PS2 in that regard either so this device seems perfect for me! Thank you for your amazing reviews 🙏
It's really hard to understand where each of the devices you review stand relative to eachother. Can you place make a bar graph showing each systems relative performance for a given game. This is standard in PC hardware reviews, like gpus or cpus. But instead of components you can put single board computers into the chart. For games that are cross arch (like emulation) you can even include android devices on the bar graphs. I think that would really elevate your content and help your viewers make informed decisions about what device to purchase for the games they want to play. thanks!
I just realized how extensive you are in all of your content. The fact that you include written guides to so many of your how-to videos is impressive. I attribute that to your military background. I refer to your Steam Deck and Odin guides regularly. I apologize for not always remembering to "like" your videos I watch.
Thanks for the very informative video. I'm building an arcade from an old ms pacman cabinet and I was hesitating upgrading from an i5 to a ryzen 5. This absolutely proved me the upgrade is justified. While 90% of mame games were playing well, there was still a portion with some 3D that was struggling. I did not buy the model reviewed though as this would be largely overkill for my purpose, but found a pc that had a Ryzen5 2400G. I watched some video and seeing how it still easily handled Wii U emulation, I'm pretty positive it will be powerful enough for any mame games :). My upgrade is on the way!! Thanks for your insightful reviews as always! By the way, is it me or Ryzen5 prices has dropped substantially ? I remember PCs with Ryzen5 being at least 200$ dollars more expensive not too long ago...
i like Chuwi Products, i use now for more than a Year a Chuwi RZ-Box as my Daaily Driver with Fedora OS and i have to say its all i need , i use 25W Mode and Gaming-Ram-Mode and its is perfekt quiet and able to play Casual-1080P Games what is enough for me. Office and so on works like a Champ. I figured out that anything oveer 25W Mode only Prodduces much more Heat and Noise with only minimal performance Boosts. Thx
This is gonna sound kinda nuts, but why doesn't Minisforum just drill some small holes into the rubber feet, before sticking them on? It's not just me right?
Hi i comment here because this is your latest video. I want to turn my old pc in to an emulator to my tv. I'm struggling with find retro game Libraris, can somebody help me to find a reliable source?
I've been kind of curious as of late about mini pc's but not for gaming. I already own a Steam Deck and a bigger PC already, but I was thinking about how a mini pc could help me with streaming by becoming a dedicated streaming pc. Problem I have no clue what to look for and I need it not only to stream at 1080p/60fps, but to also run other things in the background like a webcam and programs to run a 3d model while streaming. Any suggestions?
I saw your video talking about the best handhelds for 4:3 retro gaming and wondered what you'd think about the specs of the upcoming Pixel Fold: "So, the Pixel Fold will get two displays: a 7.6-inch main display with 6:5 aspect ratio, 2208×1840 resolution and 380ppi, and an additional 5.8-inch screen with FHD+ resolution and 17.4:9 ratio. Both displays will have 120Hz OLED matrices."
The UM560xt which has a 5600H. It can do PS3 really well since it is a 6core zen3 processor. It is also $300 for the same configuration right now on their website lol.
These minipcs are cool. Check out the ASUS PN50 at MicroCenter. Ryzen 7 4700U for 249 barebones. I have an nvme drive and RAM sticks from other PC upgrades.
My comment with most of these Mini PCs is that an Asrock X300 is a better deal. It gets you 65 watt desktop processors and some level of upgradability for the same price. And it's still a mini PC.
@@bikechan9903 There is actually a VESA mount available for the X300. It weighs about 5 pounds and is about 6 inches square, which shouldn't be a problem for any large TV sitting on a stand.
5800h+6600m model is better yet value. The G processors suck GPU wise if you go with discrete CPU and no GPU upgrade. Even the 680m based mini pcs are much better GPUs than any G processor and soon to have 780m based.
@@sprockkets The price isn't much higher.... X300w: $165 Ryzen 4600g: $100 500 GB SSD: $22 16 GB RAM: $35 Total: $322 It's probably slightly louder with the stock fan, but you can use the wraith stealth or a Noctua fan and it's almost completely silent. You can also add a 5600g or 5700g without changing anything else, for the increase in price of $70 - 100. I'm typing this on an X300w with a 4650g BTW, hooked to the big screen in my living room.
Though I think PC gaming is the best. Like a normal tower pc. With a great videocard. Better spent some more 100s of euros/dollars and you have a nice pc which can play everything too.
I got the um690hx after your videos. it only has 16GB. I would highly recommend going with 32GB if you want to use chrome. I just bought 64GB of ram because twice the PC locked up when I was doing a bunch with OneDrive files, photoshopping, and using chrome.
Well there is nothing bad with the U version of processor. It is energy efficient only 15 Wats and maybe 20% lower cpu performance comparing to 45wats of version H. If someone will want to build a server with that device U will be way better.
Just curious, why are you using Yuzu over Ryujinx? I have personally found that Ryujinx often has better performance and game comparability, but that can of course differ from system to system.
Sooner rather than later there'll be no need for those huge PC towers that filled a good share of our home's space on the not so distant time. PC's like this would very well to satisfy some 95% of the individuals. Towers would to be just for serious gamers and some specific professionals.
Russ... You're great bro! I was looking into a SFF or mini that i can play retro games on, maybe stream from my main setup or Xbox, and get some work done, make a song or something. Pretty sweet! I really appreciate all the content, your channel feels like home. Thank you
I'm looking for something that can do all PS2/GC games at 1080p/60fps This one comes really, really close for the price. To me, any game PS3/Xbox 360 or above, I'm just going to play either an emulated version on the system I own (XSX/PS 5/Switch) or an upgraded version of the game on one of those platforms. Gen 6 is the "highest" gen I really care to emulate with OG Wii in there.
@@mmpsp693 depends on how old. Almost anything will run up to PS1 and older. Dreamcast and N64 will also run on most newer low tier PCs. After that you need a little more horsepower. GC/PS2/Wii ect...
The model just above this, with the 5625U will offer a decent (but not huge) increase in performance. But the best thing would be to simply run these computers at a higher TDP/wattage and fan speed.
Does this work well for streaming games from my main pc over wifi? looking for a media center/retro gaming/game streaming pc for the living room. Thanks for all the great content!
This would work great for that. It has WiFi 6E, so if you have a Wifi-6 capable router you will have a very solid connection. If you are able to hard-wire ethernet, it'll be even better, with the 2.5Gbps port on the back.
yupppp Me 2 Bro ! As Someone Who Doesn't Care About The 4K Max Out Graphics And Is Totally OK With Like GameCube Ps2 Generation Graphics I See this As A Total Win 😅
Curious, I was playing with batocera on my raspberry pi but when I upgraded to my Ryzen 7 4700U mini pc from beelink last year (for $377 during Amazon prime) I researched batocera for windows and came across Retrobat which is essentially the same thing except you don't need to reboot your windows PC...in fact, it's made for windows...and yes, you can put it on a USB drive for portability... I would like to see a comparison video between the 2 detailing the subtle differences, if any.
Retrobat is great, I've featured it in a lot of handheld PC videos. It's nice if you want an EmulationStation layer within Windows, but the emulators are generally older versions and it does take some work to get them updated to more recent versions.
@@RetroGameCorps yes, but aside from the delayed updates wouldn't you say they are both essentially the same frontend in terms of UI, features, and functionality?...at least, it appears that way to me.
thank you for your videos. i'm thinking about getting one of these but i want to know if it can emulate dragon quest 8 ( ps2) as it is one of the hardest game to emulate
Yes, that will be fine, although it may require a 720p upscale at some points instead of 1080p. What I do is set a hotkey for upscale/downscale of the resolution (usually SELECT + Up or Down), so I can adjust the graphics on the fly with harder parts.
Yes, as I discuss near the end of the video there are other options out there. The 5600H model they just announced is a bit better performing than the 5600U (at least in benchmarks) and its pre-sale price is $10 less than this one. There's always something around the corner!
@@RetroGameCorps I know. It's a great time to have all these choices. I just grabbed a 5600u PC for $288 which I thought was an amazing deal. Thank you for your content, it's helped me make a lot of my buying choices
This is a great question btw, I'm going through my spreadsheet now and adding notes to the headers to better articulate what I'm grading in each category. Thanks for the idea!
First time watching the channel. This device is pretty cool. I'd like to purchase it and play some of these games. I don't own a console so where can I purchase these games so that I can emulate them? I've heard of illegal ways, but I'd like to get them legally. Is there a place where we can purchase legal game images or even some homebrew stuff?
The only way you can do this is by buying the respective console, or by using a limited service like Switch Online, that won't have everything you want. Join the Dark Side, and use emulators. Fan-made emulation is ALWAYS BETTER. ALWAYS.
@@vicviper0017 I just signed up for the dark side but they didn't email me a list of sites to get games to play on my emulator. Where do you recommend?
I hope Russ and Taki Udon talks about the Pimax Portal like ETA did earlier today. It looks good. I'd take it over the Odin and Razer Edge but I'd take the Steam Deck over them all. I'm starting to think the Switch Lite is my favorite gaming device of all-time and not my modded Vita slim. I just play it more. I'm more of a Sony fanboy but Nintendo really does make more highly replayable games and systems. Sony has sorta become more Westernized since the PS3 days. Buying American studios. The difference between Xbox and PlayStation only gets blurred. Sony lost their Japanese charm while Nintendo still has it. I absolutely love Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think those are the best entries for their series. It's no longer Super Mario World and Double Dash for me but I still adore those two. I'm thinking of getting Nintendo Online. Not the $49.99 Expansion Pak. I'll buy Mario Kart Booster Pass separately. I want the $19.99 to have cloud saves. Don't need the NES and SNES games. My smartphones and Vita can cover all that. I want cloud saves because once the Switch 2 or whatever they call it gets released perhaps by next year and it's likely backwards compatible to Switch 1, I want my saves to still be there once I download my Switch games onto the Switch 2. I do not want to get 3-stars for every cup on MK8D again on 200cc. A PITA. I think $20 per year is extremely reasonable. Then again, who knows how long until Nintendo closes shop for the Switch? It might get much easier for any of the Switch models to get hacked by then. Then we'll be downloading every game for free from a backup repository like we can for the Vita. I just don't want to lose my save files. My Switch Lite will be my favorite handheld until the Switch 2 Lite ever comes out by 2026 or so. Kinda makes me sad. Happened to my PSP after I got the Vita. I'll probably be trading in the Switch Lite by then once the Switch 2 completely replaces it for me. But in tech, everything does get better and the newer devices will replace the older ones like the Vita did to the PSP.
I feel like this could have a lot more potential, if the TDP and fan speed could be unlocked. I have a laptop with the same processor (4500U) and the poor cooling means that even if i go to 30W it quickly throttles. In a mini PC, with a better fan and cooling, I'm sure it could easily sustain over 40-50W, as many other mini PCs already do. Could make for a significant 20-30% improvement just through doing this alone.
I love your mini pc videos Russ all of the systems you test and benchmarking are very informative so a person can really see which one to purchase I love it when you push these PC and you give a fair option of pros and cons watch out ETA prime😂
The chipsets and motherboards are still expensive for AM5. A 7840HS mini PC would probably be in the $1000 range if it was released right now. Those machines will happen, but I wouldn't expect them at a reasonable price for several months. If they did release them now, and this review was about one of them, this whole comments section would be people complaining about the price.
Bruh, the benchmarks leaked last month for that chip and based on those that chip isn't going be nearly the 300 bucks this one is. More importantly it's not even released yet, there's not a single product with that released yet. These things aren't immediately magic'd out of thin air. The manufacturing process takes time.
