LOL, I bought a Ktec (which changed it's name to Blendtec) some 20 odd years ago for $100 or so. It was a demo model that was used over the weekend at a fair. I love this blender so much, these high speed blenders like Blendtec & Vitamix are great. I use it every day and it's still chugging along, I did have to buy a jar or two but the motor is tough.

@jackblakeney2452

The reason the Vitamix works so well (I have two vintage 70's models in stainless) is the fact that it has a motor with the torque of a diesel tractor coupled with blades that are. well.. they're not really blades at all. They could more properly be called pulverizing bars. Rather than attempting to slice food into ever-smaller bits, the Vitamix just obliterates it through sheer unbridled force. I was attempting to make cashew cream for a vegan dish, and pretty much burned out my old blender. A good friend lent me a Vitamix, and it was a revelation. No bits, no chunks, just smooth cream. That same day, I started scouring Ebay for vintage models, and picked up a perfectly working unit with original manuals for $75.
@kaiwryn
@kaiwryn 2 года назад
Which is also why it keeps working for so long. A lot of people say to start with an entry level appliance to learn if you'll really use it, but I didn't want to get turned off because the smoothies I was making were bad. Plus, after researching I realized that I could resell my Vitamix for much closer to original price than I'd be able to sell the Ninja. I'm super happy with my purchase.

Did you look for a vintage model just to save money, or are the vintage models better in some way?
@jackblakeney2452
@jackblakeney2452 2 года назад
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 I wouldn't say it's better? I mean, it's stainless, but that means you can't see through it, and the old ones have a side dispenser, but how often will you really use that? The new ones are larger, they have clear carafes, some are more powerful, and they cost $400(+). I like vintage stuff, and the fact that they were 1/4 of the going price was VERY attractive. If I had it to do over. I would still look for a vintage unit, but if I couldn't find one, a new unit at full(ish) price is an investment well worth making If you're actually going to use the thing.
@anti-ethniccleansing465
@anti-ethniccleansing465 2 года назад
@@jackblakeney2452 Thank you for the thorough response! I bet your stainless steel version keeps cold stuff really cold in it for a long time. :) I was mostly asking because I know, for example, the older KitchenAid stand mixers were beasts that lasted forever and were built so much better than the ones today. So many products these days have been changed to cut corners to save costs and thus their quality has diminished drastically, even though they are still selling the damn things at expensive prices. My mother recently gifted me an Explorian Vitamix E320, totally unexpectedly. She saw me using my magic bullet to make my smoothies, and saw that it would take me a really long time to do it. But I’ve desperately been needing a food processor for a long time, and was considering getting a refund for the blender to put towards the food processor I want, but I am thinking that it would be a mistake because there are many things I think this blender could probably do that a food processor can’t - I just need to do more research into all the things that I can make with this Vitamix that I would enjoy. Just curious… Have you ever made frozen yogurt with your blender? I’ve seen recipes where people mix yogurt with frozen fruit, but that isn’t the type of frozen yogurt I like. Not a big fan of fruit flavored frozen yogurt. I am wondering if you can make plain frozen yogurt in this blender by using just yogurt and ice and then adding the other things to it to make a flavor (my favorites would be adding cream cheese and pulverized graham crackers to make a cheesecake flavor, and another flavor by adding peanut butter and rice crispies to the neutral plain frozen yogurt base). We used to have a unique soft serve type of machine at a pizza restaurant I worked at a couple decades ago that would do this kind of thing, but I don’t know how exactly it worked on the inside of the machine. I am wondering if using this blender would make it come out as more of a slushy type of thing instead of solid solid frozen yogurt to eat on a spoon. Just to be clear, when I used that machine at the restaurant, the frozen yogurt base was already premade (the customer had a choice of choosing either a plain neutral vanilla looking frozen yogurt base or a chocolate base, and then they could add whatever toppings they wanted to and the machine would mix it all up to create a unique flavor).
@jackblakeney2452
@jackblakeney2452 2 года назад
@@anti-ethniccleansing465 The unit is powerful enough that you could freeze yoghurt in cubes, add those along with whatever you wanted as flavoring, and just grind on! What you get will be super smooth, just don't do it long enough that the mix starts to cook! As far as food processors go, there are a ton of those on ebay for cheap as well. Vintage Cuisinarts don't wear out, and they end up on ebay or elsewhere with full sets of blades and accessories all the time! Have fun looking!

I have a Vitamix. I don't think it's worth the money. A refurbished one may be worth it but I really regret paying $400 for a blender I rarely use. The full sized Ninja Professional blender is trash; which is how I ended up with a Vitamix. The og infomercial blue Ninja is still awesome. I still use it regularly but it doesn't make smoothies; it crushes ice way better than the Vitamix. I think you may want to keep looking if you need a powerful blender if really just want to make smoothies. There are likely cheaper options out there. Just don't buy a brand new Vitamix. Try a few from retailers with good return policies. And a Vitamix is not a food processor; it's a blender and that's all it's good for; it's not even all that great at crushing ice without liquid.

To me, no contest. I have owned a Vitamix for almost 30 years. I did trade up once to get a red one, not because the original one was failing. The warranty alone tells you how good these are and the tamper is a game changer which oddly isn’t available on the others. There is also a dry container that fits the same base and lets you grind your own flours, spices, or any dry ingredients. Think of making almond or oat flour, confectioner’s sugar, kneading bread dough or making your own dry rubs to mention just a few of our uses. In the standard wet container we use this for multiple purposes and we make “nice cream” on a regular basis. I have also made delicious soups in it. It is an investment but will last much longer than the competition and has so much more capability that it is well worth it. It is also the one that most restaurants use, giving you another insight to its usefulness and durability.

When I was younger and moved about every year of my life, the cheap blenders were good enough for me. But once I got to where I was "into the kitchen" and really enjoying cooking, I was fortunate (over 20 years ago) to get a Blendtec (which at the time was called a Ktec Champ) and is very comparable to the Vitamix. I admit there have been some years I did not use it all that much, but over time I use it more and more and for more things. One thing you did not mention which I use it for REGULARLY now is milling my own flour! (Blendtec is a wee bit better at milling flour than Vitamix according to tests, but close enough to the same!) I now make my own cornmeal with it as well as blend my hard white wheatberries and rye berries for mixing with all purpose flour for the sourdough bread and other breads I make. A flour mill generally costs about $400, so this has been a real deal for me (plus I don't have to find a place to put a flour mill). What is great about milling your own flour is that the wheatberries, etc. stay fresher longer before being milled, so my flour is always fresh. I do find that with the Blendtec it is preferable to hold the container steady to the base with one hand and medium-light pressure when blending anything at a high speed. I used to have to get a new container every couple years, but since a chef taught me that trick I have had the same container for over 5 years now and it is still doing great. One last thing: I find that most things I blend to not even require soap and "washing" but just an IMMEDIATE rinse. Easy habit to get into. P.S. Nice demonstration. I never had a Ninja and I would have been scared of those blades too! I don't even keep a mandoline because I've cut myself on them before. Bottom line: I'd say if you are setting up a kitchen and love to cook, you owe it to yourself to go for a Vitamix or Blendtec. After 20 years I am still finding new uses for my Blendtec (and I do grind my coffee in it now too).

My husband had a feeding tube, and we blended EVERYTHING and ANYTHING in our Blendtec so it would go through the tube. If we hadn’t gotten a Blendtec, we would have gotten a Vitamix. He used it several times a day for more than six years, and it is still going strong.

I watched every review possible, comparing the top brands against each other before I purchased a Blendtec 7 years ago. I chose it because the spinach was completely blended in the smoothie, no bits were left. Plus when the guy dropped an entire orange into all of them, I saw what I needed to see. Also, did not like poking around in the container if I don't have to. My mother with Dementia was with us for nine years and that spinach had to disappear or she wouldn't drink it.

My mom had a Vitamix for almost a decade and handed it down to me. I handed it down to my daughter after 5 years of perfect use. My daughter is still using the Vitamix after +4 years. I didn't read the manual and put the container in the dishwasher for years. It eventually jacked up the blade mechanism (dishwasher heat probably removed the blade lubrication and rusted it out bearings). Called Vitamix for the right part number for a replacement part (just too many models). Vitamix just sent me a brand new container as a replacement for free for a +15 year old blender. Can't find that level of customer service now days. Buy a Vitamix today and your Grandkids will be using it decades from now for their family.

Excellent review. I never would have imagined myself watching a 33 min review on blenders. We need the Vitamix performance with a Ninja container at a Hamilton Beach price. Little crazy the Vitamix isn't DW safe but its motivation to clean it up stat. You brought up so many great points. I like to buy quality and hopefully it last a decade or more... rather than buying much cheaper blenders that get tossed or just can't to the job. Big thumbs up. I was thinking Ninja coming in but now I'm going for the Vitamix.

I have been through the Oster, Breville, Ninja…and finally Vitamix. My advice, just get the Vitamix. Most of the time it will last for years, whereas the others are less effective, with weaker motors. People have speculated why the Vitamix is smoother. I think it is the motor strength and rpm, which is much higher. None of the others turn anything in the tub into a smooth liquid. So, Vitamix works better, more durable, and will probably last much longer. So ultimately cost of ownership is less. Had I *started* with the Vitamix, I would have saved hundreds of dollars. BTW, I agree, the Njnja is terrifying to clean. Always a worry when the blades were in the wash drying rack!
@alexanderkupke920
@alexanderkupke920 Год назад
Just found this and you mentioned something that actually also explains, why those three smoothies looked so different. It has to do both with the container design and the blades. When it comes to the Hamilton beach, the kale is half cut half smashed, which releases a lot of green juice, turning the smoothie green. while not as effective, you can see those ribs in the container direct the liquid back into the blades. This is an important part the Ninja seems to be missing, everything goes straight to the sides. what also happens, those blades are so crazy sharp that they actually cut the kale so well that hardly any juice was released as the particles hardly were beaten by the blades. No for the vitamix, you see those vortex ribs direct everything back into the blade over and over. Also the blades, while sharp, are way thicker, so there is some beating action. But also, due to the way higher rpm (although the Ninja is not that slow either) something happens that is called cavitation. tiny bubbles form around or behind the blades due to the rotation speed and those bubbles implode more or less immediately which is like a tiny explosion every time. This may happen for example in pumps or with ships propellers as well, although there it is unwanted, as over time it causes severe pitting in the surface of the propellers or within the pump. So the particles are evenly cut, smashed, and smashed even more through cavitation, which almost grinds everything smooth. and also seems to aerate the liquid somewhat.

@w0mblemania

Problem: homes are not restaurants or cafes. Domestic usage patterns are completely different from commercial, high turnover operations. The vast majority of people will use a blender infrequently, and when they do, they're mostly for smoothies. They're not professional cooks, and they may not even cook frequently. For those people, just getting a cheaper unit for smoothies is probably the better bet.
@Anthony-nx5yu
@Anthony-nx5yu 3 года назад
@@w0mblemania The point I was making was quality of blend not durability (which is still is but my comment was not about that. A smoothie in Vitamix is smoother and clearer than any Ninja or otherwise. The restaurants choose these blenders because of its quality of performance in addition to reliability. If you could not care less about tiny chunks in your smoothie then get yourself a basic blender. A Vitamix can make soups, butters, sorbets, and more in addition. For me it unlocked potential I did not otherwise have in a Ninja blender

Yeah. I made the mistake of buying a knockoff competitor (Montel Williams Healthmaster Elite Blender) thinking I could get decent performance and save a few bucks. Not only was it even louder than the Vitamix, but the engine seized up while I was making a smoothie. It would've been cheaper to have bought the best product the first time. Twelve years later, my Vitamix still runs like new.

The A3500 is my fifth Vitamix blender, and I can not imagine purchasing anything else. I have only upgraded to newer models for features, not because there was anything wrong with my older/previous models. From my experience, Vitamix blenders do not break. I always pass the older models on to family members, and to this date, my first Vitamix blender, model 5000, still functions with no issues.
