Recommendation from someone that has bought eBay headlights in the past, seal them with silicone on the outer edges because they tend to sweat inside the headlight housings, they also sometimes leak water in when you wash the truck or it rains. They look pretty freaking sweet both the front and the back.
You should thoroughly check the headlights and taillights for being waterproof. Especially where the lens is glued to the body. A lot of the inexpensive aftermarket lights tend to leak. You can also get an electronically controlled flasher unit that will cure the hyper Flash. It's way easier than adding ballast resistors to each corner of the vehicle.
You should leave the original lights. The update lights look out of place and detract from these great vehicles. They do need better light output so do like I did and retrofit hid projectors into the original lights. The tailights merely need attention and some replacement parts due to condensation/corrosion.
@@jeepercreepers54 I think the days of hid conversions are over. The newer LED bulbs are much cheaper and easier to retrofit and can give an oem beam pattern when done properly.
Great video! The old WJs really look good with a little updating. I have a '99 WJ that I updated. Really fun to work on. I did it all if you want any advice. New 2.5 lift, shocks, springs, wheels/ tires, headlights, taillights, exhaust, throttle body, programmer, stereo system, blacked- out emblems, mini RV conversion, etc. Good luck with yours!
The taillight "winking" is actually a problem with the brake lights contact either being misaligned or worn out, I bent mine back and soldered it a little bit to make the contact larger and it fixed the issue of the brake light not working when the headlights are on
Great 👍 informational video. I liked all the upgrades you did to your Jeep,..it looks much better now. Love the sound of the last (3rd) exhaust that you put on,..it sounds awesome 👍😎. I agree with you, I also think that's the BEST sound of all three. You gave me some good ideas for upgrading my Jeep. Presently I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Classic,..maybe some day I'll "upgrade" to the Grand Cherokee like yours. Keep us informed with any further upgrades to your Jeep. Thanks.
Nice example of refreshing the old ride with a few after market parts to make it feel like new. I probably would have used a sound measuring device (I'm sure you can get a phone app that could approximate the same function) to test which add on was loudest, of course between the garage and the road there'll always be a difference.
17:42 if you are hanging your exhaust off the frame with that strapping you are going to get an annoying buzz in the cab. The exhaust has rubber hangers for a reason. There are aftermarket rubber hangers that isolate the exhaust from the body.
I just purchased a 2004 DubJ with 71,000 miles, and the first thing I installed was a Millennial Anti-Theft Device. I changed the transmission from an automatic to a manual transmission. Nice video, THANKS
Dude welcome to the family! Love my 04 grand you lucked out when you decided not to get those headlights they suck anyway cant wait to see more wj content
I got a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with the 4.7 liter v8. 155,000 miles. Near perfect interior. Bout to make it dope like this. It has the quadratic 2 . 4 low and 4 all time transfer case. Pretty sweet
How does it run? How many miles on the engine? Have you thought about installing a rebuilt 4.7? After you install a new motor all you'll need are bushings for your suspension and essentially your Jeep will run and ride like new
In my state the tail pipe has to extend all the way back to the rear bumper to keep fumes from entering the cabin. Do not run your car while camping in the back without running a proper and longer tailpipe.
For all of you making comments on the exhaust, many of us run Dumps and most major after exhaust companies build the same. I ran dump pipes on a Ranger, Dakota, Rav4, Tacoma, Suburban, and my Mustang. He’s closer to the axle than some of the flow master and mbrp units I’ve run. Only thing is I would have pulled the downstream cat. :) Great little build. So happy you redid the moldings. And for the others mocking the older vehicle. Why? My 14 year old truck has first and second row heated seats, park power folding mirrors, Blu-ray and Apple carplay, navigation, power lift gate, remote start, blah blah blah and cost me far less then a new Mitsubishi Mirage G4. Keep it up bud.
scginda803 3/4 ton 07 Suburban. Love the second row captain chairs. Power folding 3rd row. It was a custom build from 06 spending much of its life in Montana but doesn’t have a spec of surface rust. Right now she’s at 94k miles. Besides the infamous dash crack it was a diamond in the rough and can’t seriously changing family rigs.
Great video, painting the grey plastic with bed liner paint is a brilliant idea as the standard finish on that plastic always looks terrible even after a wash, that will be my next job. Thank you
I would've kept the stock exhaust piping going out the back, trust me even with the glasspack you had on it, if you kept the original piping you would've had the great sound with zero drone. Anything is going to drone being dumped under the cabin really
Nice, I like those headlights. Just got an 04 and the first thing I did was tires and rims. Currently waiting on rear shocks and a 2" lift goes on. M11 off-road makes some nice brackets to mount pillar lights, $45 bucks. I haven't found a set of pod lights that I like. Does anyone have any recommendations? The tires and rims I upgraded to, they filled out the wheel wells perfectly with minimum rub on the fender liner, on stock suspension. A 2" lift is in the works to have it sitting even prettier. BFG All Terrain TAs 245/65/17 Rock Trix 109 (Black) 17x9 12mm offset. Good luck with the jeep dude!
I have the 250 dollar ones and they're amazing!!!!! Tons of compliments and no issues at all! One of my favorite add on I've done next to the suspension and lift obviously lol
Seems like those rain guards may just fly off since the adhesive was coming off with the tape... Might be good to get some real 3M double sided adhesive and re-do all of those guards. Just... ya know... IMO.
Nice video man, very thorough. I have the same tail lights and the lens had melted with the regular incandescent bulbs. I would change them to leds ASAP.
Hey man super appreciate what you're doing here and your videos. Watched your scam car series. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo also that I just finished detailing. It's got about 220,000 mi on it and still going strong. I bought the OBD2 scanner and it will come in handy with my frequent check engine lights. Thanks so much. Also sent my brother the link.
400 bucks for just lights and exhaust. I would have chosen suspension upgrades first. That bedlined trim does look good though. Can’t wait to see more on the build
Cool lights. I feel like a bigger, and about $370 cheaper upgrade would've been to get rod of the window stickers in the back and go over all the bumpers and trim with for example Gtechniq C4
Yeah I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee LIMITED I rebuilt every thing in I just put another engine which is the second engine I bought for it ..I put the factory headlights on they miss up on me so got to buy another set I spent 11,000 putting my jeep together
I have the same tail lights on my 2004 but I didn't get the smoked look. Mine are clear with black housings. I've had them for 2 years and never wired the LED's haha! This makes me want to do it. I guess you can choose either the brake or parking wire to wire to. The tail lights have been excellent so far. My VIPMotoz headlights have not been the best. One low beam has failed. Gonna upgrade to the Akkon bar LED style soon.
I bought a set of Depot projector headlights for my ex 95 Neon coupe. One of the biggest lighting upgrades I have ever seen in that car. Unfortunately it ate the timing belt and it wasn't worth fixing again with the crap paint and high mileage so gave it away. I kept the headlights and they are now worth more than the Neon was as is. Good part is I ended up with my lil sisters low miles 06 hemi Charger RT cheap. 👌Very quick for such a heavy car. I plan to upgrade the headlights to projectors on the Charger as well and Depo and many others make nice sets. I would recommend making sure whatever you get is DOT approved and has decent reviews and warranty. Nice to see some car content to mix things up. Definitely get another full tail pipe setup all the way to the bumper, it'll be a lot quieter and keep the exhaust from rotting stuff underneath and coming into the Jeep.
I have 2000 Jeep WJ I have the same head lights and taillights - looks good man , the tail lights definitely are not street legal. Even with LEDs they are dark , I set the led side lights on mine to come on with the brakes, I also bought a $25 led 60” tailgate light strip that I wired to the brake and running and back up lights and ran it along the rear bumper to better insure people could see when I brake. I intend to do a lot more to it. I look forward to seeing what else you do to yours.
One more vote for extending the exhaust. It's droning because the sound waves are bouncing between the body and the ground, and keeping the exhaust fumes out of the cabin is necessary because CO poisoning sucks.
You have the exact headlights and taillights set that I have on my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee! Just a tip from my experience you might want to put some LEDs on the brake lights bc they will overheat eventually and it will bubble up and burn the inside of your taillights
As far as headlights goes it's hard to bet a nice new set of factory originals. Secondly nothing looks worse than stickers on windows clean that sh*t off lol Clean and respectable that's how WJ's should be lol
A. It's not the muffler that's drone-y, it's your installation. You have your pipe pointed down to the ground under your chassis, sounds are going to hit the ground and come straight back up. B. You need your exhaust extended to go away from your vehicle, that CO2 you expel from your exhaust is now coming inside of your vehicle, you need to fix that before you get poisoned. Hence why every OEM exhaust has a tip pointed past the rear bumper. C. With as much wiring as you do, you should invest in a large kit of wire plug and connectors. This will allow you to make plugs so you can unplug things and not solder things together or use cheap butt-connectors. Most plug/wire kits are waterproof and dust-proof as well. C2. Example: www.amazon.com/HIFROM-Female-Waterproof-Electrical-Connectors/dp/B077779CZR/ Bonus D. If you really want to get DIY-ish, you could get a microcontroller/circuit board and make your 3 amber running lights (the turn signal/daytime running lights that are yellow) and make them sequential. Something like this: www.amazon.com/Mallofusa-Universal-Sequential-Controller-Retrofit/dp/B07TL9SCHV/
Soooo question I have 2000 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo mmm I have fog lights they have wires an all but I can’t find the switch to turn them on I tryed pulling in my light switch but still no it’s like don’t wanna pull out? Is there another way do this on these jeeps or?
Yo tengo una cherokee 94 quiero ponerle la luz de alante la que son moderna como esa que tiene esa cherokee del vídeo quiero saber qué me cuentan y cómo hacemos para yo comprala
heat seal connects. connect halos to parking light. Nice vid. in channel window guards have a cleaner look.. Still looking good. after spending cheaply on exhaust, you could have had a very nice FlowMaster.. just sayin..
The Inja hey you may want to find out if the lenses are UV protected. I bought a pair of new lense covers for my truck tail lights and they turn solid yellow in a few months. Almost can't see the tail lights during the day. Not saying they are all the same but might save you a hassle later trying to buff them out. I've seen uv protection or 2k clear coats that will protect the plastic. Just a thought.
I bought the higher dollar headlights you showed. Only problem is that they are plug and play, and the LED bar plugs into where the middle turn signal bulb was. So they always hyper flash, and throws a "turn signal on" code in the cab. But they give it a mean look.
