Interestingly enough, I own a pair of the Solovair’s HORWEEN leather derby boots, which appear to be exactly the same as the Goral, except for the outsole which resembles the more traditional Dr Martens outsole but the material is different from the regular Solovair Derby’s . The outsole’s are what Solovair’s website refer to as their premium comfort sole. They only made these boots for a short period of time and they were charging around $279 for the boots.
@MrChinabear
@MrChinabear 5 месяцев назад
I own both. The Doc Martens HORWEEN Boots have a much thinner Cavalier leather and the sole is exactly the same as the out soles on the regular docs where as the Solovair’s are they completely different pair of boots.. the leather from HORWEEN is a much thicker chrome tan leather. Also the leather lining and the leather insert seems to be exactly the same as the ones found on the Goral’s the only difference seems to be the outsoles. Although I have no proof I have come to the conclusion that the Solovair’s upper may have been made by Goral. There is definitely a more than coincidental resemblance between those two boots

I remember commenting this (or similar) subject before. When I was wearing my Docs as a teen in the early 70's it was to fit in with my peers. To be part of a crowd, to be fashionable. At that time I think the Made In England version was the only one available. They fit well, were comfy and lasted long enough for us to pose in with our mates. These Goral boots a great for what they are, but it's like your mum making you a pair of Levi's. They're just not the same.

I remember owning 3 pairs of Docs in the late 90s, one which included the 1460 Oiled Leather version, and all three were made by the Solovair factory in the UK, and each of those pairs lasted at least 5 years of heavy use. Compared to the ones that were made in Thailand(the first batches of "outsourced" Docs that came here to the Philippines were made in their "new" Thailand factory at that time), there's definitely no comparison at all. From the sole material to the leather, you can really see the quality has gone down a lot. But in their marketing, they presented it as a "lighter", more "comfortable for long wear" version of the "new" Dr. Marten's Had i known things would do downhill for Doc Marten's, i would've kept all those 3 pairs(ended up handing them down to my cousins), given that those would've been the last relics(and would most likely be collector's items) of a bygone golden era of Solovair-made Doc Marten's.

Reminds me of Vimes's Boot Theory. "The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money. Take boots, for example. ... A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while a poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet." The typical Doc Martens buyer was more interested in style than anything else. Quality was a secondary concern, although it was appreciated by those of us who wore the **** out of them. These don't really capture that style. I like these boots, but I'm a "boot guy", so quality boots interest me. In a way, Docs were my gateway drug to the world of higher quality boots. This boot is of a higher quality than Docs ever were. I've owned half a dozen pairs of Docs, all purchased from 1977-1998, so I'm fan of what they used to be. This boot is for a bit more sophisticated & discerning clientele, IMO. Good vid, as usual, thanks for the heads up.

Seem nice and durable to start, pretty comfortable out of the box. We’ll see how they work out. On sale for $66, so worth a try. Still iconic with the look which has become timeless. No but a lot of us who bought docs moved onto something else. I do miss a lot of the features of docs but they were made so badly. I ended up going to Jim green for my boot needs. For the price of 270 I can have Jim Green build me just about anything I want within reason for about 270 including shipping from South Africa ( cause South Africa is economically distressed they can import products and not have to pay the import fees )

Well I'm fully aware that these are better quality but not everyone is willing to Shell out 450 DLLs on a pair of boots, I believe the Dr Martens made in England are still really solid quality.

cool knocked loose hat :) i like my docs a lot, but i wear them like sneakers and don't abuse them alike actual boots(got a pair of chelsea boots) and they have some cool non classic models, but these look really great. i kind of want to avoid getting a lace up doc and would go for solovair, these or maybe paraboot instead. speaking of which, paraboot would be a cool brand to see on here. i wonder how well made they are for their price.

The quality is there. They need some type of accent though. Yellow stitching or make the rubber side a different color

Great video, and really informative. I love the Gorals, but don’t love the price. I like the look of the Docs but agree that they’re junk these days. I think I’d go with Solovairs as they’re ‘relatively’ decent boots at about half the price of the Gorals.

I'd definitely consider a pair of these in lowtop 1461 style. I have import doc's and solovairs and both end up creasing, flaking and splitting where my foot bends at the ball. I need the shine or I would try a "greasy" finish.

The main weakness I think is the insole; if you swamp those boots that cardboard and cork is going to disintegrate. Certainly fine for inclement weather urban use, just be mindful where you put your feet.

Great videos! Like to watch it and learn more about what are the best boots that we can get! Did you ever heard about the brand Bonanza? They have some moc toe boots. They look pretty good, and they show some videos about the quality of the leather and they have Goodyear welt. You should make a video about that boots and tell us what do you think about it, and if it's worth it the boot, they have 4.6 and 8 inches. They look pretty good. But you're the expert

The missing point here is that, many people (me included) buy Docs because we like how they look... I mean, this Gorals are cool, but they don't look anything near to the punk look that Docs brings People gets mad when you buy something that makes you feel cool, but (as I see it) that's one of the points of buying something in the first place... To feel good about it! (Even when we know that Docs have decreased the quality big time)

I’ve bought two pairs of Doc Martens low slip on shoes at a discount shoe store half off at $60. They were pretty good for the price but the outsoles do were down quickly as you stated. Also the middle would crack straight across the bottom from bending and once you got them wet the fiberboard got wet and quickly fell apart.

And yet he shows you the leather, cuts them in half and shows you the insides and all materials, describes them to you, says about the man made materials and that he himself would prefer all leather and cork inside but that would make them heavy and less Doc Marten like. So you still get a really good idea of what they will be. I will say the biggest subjective part is how comfortable they are, to which he says he finds them comfortable but those things are always subjective. He may not think a certain pair of boots are comfortable and many others can find them crazy comfortable and vice versa. He’s still showing all the insides etc. any review or any video, from anyone should be used as a helpful guide and nothing more and remember many things are subjective.

If you're wearing through Docs or Solovairs in 6 months or a year, then a different style of boots is probably better for your use. If you're like most people and wear them casually alongside a bunch of other footwear, they might still be a great option that lasts you a long time. If you're buying Docs because of how Docs look, you're not buying these. It's a completely different piece of footwear, so I hardly see how it is even a comparison to Docs.

450$ for a pair of strobal stitch/blake boots seems hefty. Better look at something like the Heschung Hetre which at least looks somewhat like the doc martens and are norwegian welted(although more expensive)

Please take a look at the Waldviertler shoes made by GEA. Handmade fair production in Austria with focus on wide bed shoes that are healthy for your feet. Very high build quality. Basically lasts a lifetime, and you can get every part replaced fairly cheap. My dad has had one of his pair for almost 50 years and they still hold up very well.

They look very chunky. I am sure the construction is way above what you get with modern dr martens but they do not look nearly as good as dr martens. It's like the Goral sneakers, I am sure they are much better constructed than Common Project but they just don't look as good. CPs and Docs are iconic because they are objectively well proportioned and good looking shoes. It seems to me that Goral is not in the business of making good looking things they are in the business of making well constructed homage shoes (not to say copies).
